Exclusive Media’s A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES Starring Liam Neeson Sold Overseas

Exclusive Media has sold its thriller, A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES starring Liam Neeson, to a number of top overseas territories as sales heat up on the eagerly awaited production, it was announced today by Alex Walton, President of International Sales and Distribution. A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES story goes – formerly a cop with the NYPD, now an unlicensed private eye and a recovering alcoholic haunted by past mistakes, Matt Scudder (NEESON) is hired to find the kidnapped wife of a drug dealer. He operates just outside the law where the police don’t go to track down the kidnappers, who he discovers have been involved in multiple kidnappings and brutal murders.

Written and to be directed by Academy Award nominated Scott Frank (OUT OF SIGHT, THE LOOKOUT), the film is based on the popular ‘Matt Scudder’ books series written by well-known writer Lawrence Block. The movie was developed and is being produced by Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher, with their company Double Feature Films, with Danny DeVito and his company, Jersey Films. A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES is also produced and financed by Exclusive Media with Cross Creek Pictures under the recently announced joint co-production deal.

Set to be released by Universal Pictures, principal photography is set to start in February 2013 on location in New York City.

Oscar nominee Liam Neeson has starred in four films released in 2012 so far: reprising his hit role in TAKEN 2, the sequel opened number one at the box office on October 5th through Twentieth Century Fox; Open Road Films’ THE GREY opposite Dermot Mulroney and Frank Grillo; Warner Bros. Pictures’ WRATH OF THE TITANS opposite Sam Worthington and Ralph Fiennes; and Universal’s BATTLESHIP co-starring Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård and Rihanna. Writer/director Scott Frank was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Steven Soderbergh’s OUT OF SIGHT, starring George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez. His extensive writing credits include GET SHORTY, MINORITY REPORT, THE INTERPRETER, and MARLEY AND ME. He made his impressive feature film directing debut with the critically acclaimed THE LOOKOUT starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jeff Daniels, Matthew Goode and Isla Fisher, which he also wrote and was released through Miramax Films. The film won the Best First Feature Award at the Independent Spirit Awards.

Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher have extensive credits including CONTAGION and WORLD TRADE CENTER. Along with DeVito, their hits also include GET SHORTY, OUT OF SIGHT, GATTACA, ALONG CAME POLLY, and MAN ON THE MOON. Shamberg has been nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Picture, first for Lawrence Kasdan’s THE BIG CHILL followed by Steven Soderbergh’s ERIN BROCKOVICH which he shared with Stacey Sher and Danny DeVito.

DeVito, Shamberg and Sher were executive producers on Quentin Tarantino’s iconic PULP FICTION. Sher is producing and Shamberg is executive producing his next film, DJANGO UNCHAINED, which is in post-production and stars Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, and Samuel L. Jackson out in theatres at Christmas through The Weinstein Company and Sony Pictures. Shamberg and Sher are also currently producing RUNNER RUNNER for New Regency starring Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck. DeVito, Shamberg, and Sher are in pre-production on MANHUNT starring Gerard Butler. DeVito recently produced ST. Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton & Jacki Weaver Cast In JFK Film PARKLAND; Playtone Pictures’ Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman Producing

Oscar nominated Paul Giamatti (CINDERELLA MAN), Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton (SLING BLADE) and Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver (ANIMAL KINGDOM) have signed on to the John F. Kennedy feature film PARKLAND. Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman are producing in association with Exclusive Media, who will also be financing, It was announced today by Exclusive Media Co-Chairmen Nigel Sinclair and Guy East.

As part of the production deal, Exclusive Media has optioned the rights to the book which provides the source material for the film – the epic Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, by renowned author and former prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi. The work was published in 2007 by W.W. Norton & Company and won the 2008 Edgar Award for Best Fact Crime. Bugliosi, a three time Edgar Award winner, also wrote the number one New York Times bestsellers; “Helter Skelter,” “And The Sea Will Tell” and “Outrage.”

The adapted screenplay is written by Peter Landesman, who will also direct PARKLAND marking his directorial debut. PARKLAND recounts the dramatic true story of the chaotic events that occurred at Parkland Hospital in Dallas on the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. The film, to be shot in Austin, Texas is destined for a 2013 US theatrical release around the 50th anniversary of the assassination.

Actor Paul Giamatti is best known for his Spirit Award winning role in SIDEWAYS, Golden Globe performances in BARNEY’S VERSION and JOHN ADAMS as well as CINDERELLA MAN which earned him an Oscar nomination. He starred in other critically acclaimed films such as WIN WIN, THE ILLUSIONIST, COLD SOULS and Exclusive Media’s THE IDES OF MARCH. He’s currently shooting SAVING MR BANKS for Disney opposite Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson.

Billy Bob Thornton is the actor, screenwriter, director and musician who wrote, starred in and directed the independent film SLING BLADE, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Thornton gained recognition for his acting in films including ONE FALSE MOVE and TOMBSTONE and received critical acclaim for his performances in A SIMPLE PLAN, THE MAN WHO WASN’T THERE, MONSTER’S BALL, BANDITS and BAD SANTA. He recently stepped behind the camera once again to direct and star in the ensemble drama JAYNE MANSFIELD’S CAR, an original script co-written by Thornton and longtime collaborator Tom Epperson and starring Robert Duvall, John Hurt, Kevin Bacon and Robert Patrick.

Jacqueline “Jacki” Weaver is the Australian theatre, film, and television actress nominated for the 2011 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in ANIMAL KINGDOM. She can next be seen alongside Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence in The Weinstein Company’s highly anticipated SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK directed by David O. Russell in theaters on November 21st.

Peter Landesman is an award-winning journalist and novelist who wrote the New York Times article “The Girls Next Door,” the basis for the Kevin Kline starrer TRADE, which he also executive produced. He has a number of scripts in active development including the former FBI agent Mark Felt aka “Deep Throat,” story set up at Playtone and Universal Pictures and THE MISSION for Warner Bros. and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Landesman also wrote an adaptation of The Galton Case, the 8th book in the mystery series by Ross MacDonald, for Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures.

Scott Pictures Launches International Sales & Joint Venture With Exclusive Media – JANE GOT A GUN Starring Natalie Portman First Title Announced

Scott Steindorff’s Scott Pictures, an affiliate of Stone Village Productions, has launched a new international sales company, Scott Pictures International (SPI) under a unique and exclusive three year partnership with leading sales agent Exclusive Media, it was announced today by Steindorff, Chairman of SPI and Alex Walton, President of International Sales and Distribution for Exclusive Media.

Exclusive Media will handle the international sales and servicing for all Scott Pictures’ theatrical feature film productions under this new separate SPI label.

Production and financing company Scott Pictures anticipates producing between 3 – 5 major feature films per year and those will be serviced under the deal.  The first film to be announced is the Natalie Portman starrer JANE GOT A GUN, to be directed by Lynne Ramsay (WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN) from a script by Brian Duffield.  Steindorff and banker Peter Nathanial will finance and produce the action movie with Portman through her Handsomecharlie Films banner alongside Terry Dougas (SWING VOTE) of 1821 and Chris Coen (FUNNY GAMES). Brillstein Entertainment Partners’ Aleen Keshishian will exec produce with 1821’s Paris Latsis, Scott Pictures’ Scott LaStaiti and Dylan Russell.

Set to start shooting in early 2013, JANE GOT A GUN centers on a woman who must ask an ex-lover for help in order to save her outlaw husband from a gang who are out to kill him.

“Overseeing our own foreign sales is a natural next step for Scott Pictures as we plan to produce 3 – 5 of our own theatrically released pictures each year for the next 5 years.  It’s about controlling the process, creating a brand and supplying great films to international distributors.  We are extremely excited to be in business with Nigel Sinclair, Guy East, Alex Walton and their team. Exclusive Media To Launch International Sales On Hammer’s THE QUIET ONES At Berlin’s European Film Market

Written and to be directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2) and produced by James Gay-Rees (Senna, Exit Through The Gift Shop) The Quiet Ones marks Hammer’s follow up to Daniel Radcliffe starrer The Woman in Black, which was released last weekend in the US on 3,000 screens grossing an outstanding $21M.

Inspired by true events, The Quiet Ones tells the story of an unorthodox professor who uses controversial methods and leads his best students off the grid to take part in a dangerous experiment: to create a poltergeist. Based on the theory that paranormal activity is caused by human negative energy, the rogue scientists perform a series of tests on a young patient, pushing her to the edge of sanity. As frightening occurrences begin to take place with shocking and gruesome consequences, the group quickly realizes they have triggered a force more terrifying and evil than they ever could have imagined.

Exclusive Media’s HAMMER Acquires GASLIGHT Screenplay

EXCLUSIVE MEDIA’S HAMMER PRODUCTION LABEL ACQUIRES RIGHTS TO BLACKLIST SCREENPLAY ‘GASLIGHT’

HAMMER TO DEVELOP AND PRODUCE THE HORROR FEATURE FILM

Iconic production company Hammer, an Exclusive Media company, has acquired the rights to GASLIGHT, an original screenplay written by newcomer Ian Fried, it was announced today by Simon Oakes, Vice-Chairman of Exclusive Media and President & CEO of Hammer, and Guy East and Nigel Sinclair, Co-Chairmen of Exclusive Media.  Hammer will develop and produce GASLIGHT for the big screen.

The screenplay landed on Hollywood’s Blacklist of the best unproduced scripts in 2011 and is an atmospheric thriller in the vein of FROM HELL meets THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Secretly imprisoned in a London insane asylum, the infamous Jack the Ripper helps Scotland Yard investigators solve a series of grisly murders whose victims all share the iconic death brand: dual puncture wounds to the neck.

Tobin Armbrust, President of Worldwide Production & Acquisitions of Exclusive Media, Hammer’s parent company, will oversee the project for Hammer.

Ian Fried is currently writing an original supernatural action project called SPECTRAL for Legendary Pictures. His previous script, THE EVER AFTER MURDERS, featuring fairy tale characters investigating murder scenes, also landed on Hollywood’s Black List in 2010.

Fried is repped by Daniel Cohan and Mike Esola at WME, Prolific Entertainment and attorney Eric Suddleson.

Hammer most recently produced the chilling ghost story THE WOMAN IN BLACK starring Daniel Radcliffe that opened this weekend in the US taking over $21m at the US box office.

Hammer’s adaptation of Susan Hill’s classic novel, starring Daniel Radcliffe, opened on almost 3000 screens through CBS Films with a per screen average of approximately $7,400, and also took the number one position in the Canadian box office.

This weekend’s three day gross makes The Woman in Black the highest opening ever for a Hammer film in the US and one of the very few British films that has broken the $20m opening weekend threshold.

Exclusive Media’s development and production activities operate through three specialist labels: UK based Hammer for genre titles, Spitfire Pictures for documentary features and the flagship label Exclusive Media for all other feature film production.

Exclusive Media’s international sales & distribution division maintains a strong marketing presence and represents the group’s in-house productions plus its growing library of over 550 titles, as well as actively acquiring third party feature films to further strengthen its international distribution slate.
