Top Ten Tuesday: Best of 2011

Another year has come and gone and with it passes another year of movies, good and bad, but today we focus on the best films to have hit theaters in 2011. Of course, the very phrase “best of…” is subject to widely varying opinions, which is why we choose to do things a little differently. While we do consider these the best films, that’s merely how they’re seen in our eyes. You may, heck… we even encourage you to disagree. For what it’s worth, here’s our Top Ten list of the Best Films of 2011.

How it works: We five Movie Geeks each have compiled our own lists of the top ten films of 2011. From these lists, we’ve tabulated votes based on a point system, resulting in our Movie Geeks Top Ten Films of 2011. Each of the individual geeks’ lists can be found at the end of our compiled list. *Our lists are based on the selection of films released theatrically in Saint Louis during the 2011 calendar year. (*This is why you will not see SHAME represented on our list.)

Two Pics From Some HARRY POTTER Movie

deathly hallows 2

Okay, I’m going to take a page out of Devin Faraci’s book here and make the claim that if you would have told me these two photos from HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 1, brought to us by Yahoo! Movies, were from any, other post-2004 HARRY POTTER movie, I probably would have believed you.   Being the first part of a two-part finale that’s been in the works for nearly ten years, you would think our first, official glimpses would be a little more exciting.   Harry’s got a wand.   Harry, Ron, and Hermione looking stoically on as they walk down a corridor.   There’s nothing here that cries out DEATHLY HALLOWS.

Here’s the second photo:

Nonetheless, as little as these photos have to offer, I am quite curious and almost excited to see how this final book plays out over two films.   There is a lot to wrap up in two films, especially if the pacing on them is anything like the last, two films, but I still have faith in David Yates that he can pull it off.

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 1 hits theaters on November 19th, 2010.   FYI, PART 2 hits theaters on July 15th, 2011.

Rhys Ifans Set for ‘Deathly Hallows’

Rhys Ifans, who always has a way of stealing the show, has, evidently, been cast in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.’ Â  He mentioned as such on this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. Â  While Ifans did not mention which part he would be portraying, popular belief is that he will be filling the role of Xenophilius Lovegood. Â  He spoke about being fitted for his costume while filming ‘Mr. Nice’ in Spain.

Here is the video clip where he makes the mention:

David Heyman And The ‘Deathly Hallows’

Thought I should point out that Empire Online has a nice little Q & A set up with David Heyman, who’s been producing the Harry Potter movies since The Sorcerer’s Stone. He talks about the decision to split the last film into two parts, why it’s not about the money, and what he looks forward to most about bringing the series to a close on the big screen.

Wizard talk.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
is currently set to begin shooting next year.
