An obsessed fan stalks his favorite actors from the Friday the 13th films and beyond. As a child, Kelsie Voorhees witnesses the murder of her grandmother, Friday the 13th actress Deborah Voorhees, at the hands of a crazed fanboy. As an adult, she discovers her grandmother isn’t the only victim and the killer is still out there searching for his favorite Friday the 13th cast members and iconic scream queens to slaughter, mirroring his idol Jason Voorhees, as he still can’t seem to separate the characters in the movies from their real-life personas.

“Never Say Die!” THE GOONIES Screens Sunday Night April 11th at the Sky View Drive-in in Litchfield, Illinois (with GODZILLA VS KONG)

“C’mon Mikey, give me a lickery kiss!”

THE GOONIES (1985) screens Sunday Night April 11th at the Sky View Drive-in in Lichtfield, Il. (1500 Historic Old Route 66) This is part of the Sky View’s ‘Throwback Sundays’. The second Sunday of the month, they screen a classic movie. Admission is only $7 (free for kids under 5). This is a double feature! GOONIES will be followed by GODZILLA VS KONG. Gates will open at 6pm for all showings. Movie Start time: 7:35pm. The Sky View’s site can be found HERE.

Four kids – Mikey (Sean Astin), Chunk (Jeff Cohen), Mouth (Corey Feldman) and Data (Ke Huy Quan) who call themselves “The Goonies” finds a map in the attic of Mikey’s house. Their beloved neighborhood is about to become a golf course, so they go out on an adventure to find lost buried treasure. Unfortunately, three crooks Mama Fratelli (Anne Ramsey) with her sons Jake (Robert Davi) and Francis (Joe Pantoliano) are also seeking the treasure.

One of the most beloved movies of the 80’s, THE GOONIES is a timeless adventure from director Richard Donner and producer Steven Spielberg that has stood the test of time.

THE GOONIES has youth, fun, and excitement by the truckload but also that perfect “Boy’s Adventure” element that’s often hard to capture on film (think KING KONG, THE THIEF OF BAGDAD, JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, and LIFE OF PI). THE GOONIES also captured the 80’s so well with its fashion, hairstyles and music, so even now it feels not so much dated, as a charming look back. Many of the film’s young actors went on to bigger things (Sean Astin in LOTR and Oscar-nominee Josh Brolin). They show quite a lot of star quality and manage to give performances beyond their years under the assured direction of Richard (THE OMEN, SUPERMAN) Donner. In many ways, the film plays like a juvenile variation of the Indiana Jones movies, and is a very competent and fast-moving yarn. Don’t miss THE GOONIES when it screens April 11th at The Sky View

The We Are Movie Geeks gang always goes to these, so if you wanna hang with the cool kids, you should go too. It’s free and they set up a big screen at the bottom of the hill. There are food trucks and beer and wine for sale. You can even go dine in the museum’s restaurant before the show if you got money to burn. If you’re a museum member, you can show your membership card and get free popcorn and ice cream (I did that last year even though my card was expired!). Of course, you can bring a cooler with your own food and drinks as well. It’s a lot of fun! Bring your dog! The movies start at 9 but get there early! Thousands of people show up, especially if the weather is nice, and close parking is scarce. There’s live pre-show music and the people-watching can be entertaining.

What’s a film series without the food

Bring your own picnic.

Food Truck Fest, presented by Sauce Magazine, will run from 6 to 8:30 pm in the parking lot to the west of the Louis IX statue on Art Hill. Food trucks vary each week and lines will close at 8:30 pm sharp each night. Cash, credit, and debit cards accepted. An ATM will be on Art Hill Plaza.

The Museum’s Cafe will be open and serving casual fare including freshly prepared soups, sandwiches, and salads until 9 pm.

Concession stands with snacks and soda will be located at the top of Art Hill. Show your Saint Louis Art Museum membership card and get a free bag of popcorn!

Adult beverages will be available for purchase at the Panorama booth.

FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER – Midnights This Weekend at The Moolah

  friday13th-header

“Jason’s body has disappeared from the morgue!”

fridaythe13thpart4_4

FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER screens Midnights this weekend (May 13th and 14th) at The Moolah Theater and Lounge (3821 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63108) as part of  Destroy the Brain’s monthly Late Night Grindhousefilm series.

fridayfinalchapterending

FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER (1984), the fourth film in the venerable franchise, is considered by hard-core fans of the series to be the best, although it was hardly the “final Chapter” (there were at least 10 more). Directed by Joseph Zito (THE PROWLER) directed, which is indeed far above average by slasher standards and features a good cast of recognizable 80’s brat pack wannabes, including Crispin Glover (BACK TO THE FUTURE), Corey Feldman (THE GOONIES), Lawrence Monoson (LAST AMERICAN VIRGIN) and Judie Aronson (WEIRD SCIENCE). It also ranks as one of the goriest in the series, thanks to the return of makeup effects legend Tom Savini, who provided the effects for the first film.
friday-the-13th-the-final-chapter
The story doesn’t deviate at all from the F13 formula: a group of horny teens travel to Crystal Lake for a vacation, not knowing of course that Jason has awakened and escaped from the morgue. Little Tommy Jarvis (Feldman), a special effects nut, and his older sister (Kimberly Beck) are intrigued by the newcomers, and get to watch as they go skinny dipping (no shortage of sex and in this one). Meanwhile, the brother of one of Jason’s former victims is out looking to put Jason in the grave once and for all, wandering around in the woods armed with a machete and a shotgun. Jason proceeds to mutilate the bunch in some pretty brutal ways (a boy’s head is crushed against a wall, another gets a corkscrew in the hand and a meat cleaver in the face, a girl is thrown out a window and smashes onto the roof of a car, a guy gets harpooned in the crotch–ouch!), until his final showdown with Tommy, who dresses up like Jason as a kid and confuses him long enough for sis to whack his mask off, revealing his grotesque face. When he goes after her, little Tommy grabs a machete and slams it into Jason’s head, nearly decapitating him when he falls causing the blade to slide further in. Quite an impressive and disgusting special effects feat.

Later, at the hospital, Tommy has a demented look in his eye–leaving the door open for yet another entry despite the title. Enjoyable performances, competent direction, squishy gore effects, and a fast pace make FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER a must see .And you’ll have the opportunity this weekend, which is of course Friday the 13th of May (and Saturday the 14th – Hey! Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to show SATURDAY THE 14th with Richard Benjamin on Saturday?) It’s this month’s Late Night Grindhouse midnight show presented by the madmen at Destroy The Brain! All the gory fun takes place at The Moolah Theater and Lounge (3821 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63108) this weekend. See ya there……unless you’re chicken!

Corey Haim Dies at 38

Part of reporting news and events in and surrounding the film industry is always hard when reporting someone has passed away.  It makes the job even harder when it is someone so young and who had so much promise earlier in their career.  Corey Haim is one such tragedy.  The child star has passed away at 38.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Haim passed away at 3:30 this morning from an apparent drug overdose.  Haim’s history with substance abuse has been ongoing for years.  According to the LAPD, he was with his mother when he passed away.

Haim made his way into the business at 13, first appearing in the 1984 film FIRSTBORN and the TV series, “The Edison Twins.” He garnered notoriety in 1985 with the Steven King adaptation, SILVER BULLET, and in the 1986 film, LUCAS.  In 1987, he co-starred for the first time with Corey Feldman in Joel Schumacher’s THE LOST BOYS.  It would be the first of several films the two Coreys appeared together in, including LICENSE TO DRIVE and DREAM A LITTLE DREAM.

Due to Haim’s ongoing issue with addiction, he and Feldman became distant.  In 2007, they agreed to the reality series “The Two Coreys.”  In 2008, Haim ran a Variety ad stating: “I’m back. I’m ready to work. I’m ready to make amends.”  He continued to battle with addiction, and, ultimately, A&E canceled the series after two seasons.

Haim was last seen in a cameo appearance in 2008’s LOST BOYS: THE TRIBE, and in a bit part in last year’s CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE.

It’s the crashes we see coming that are oftentimes hardest to take.  It is sad that such a young man has passed away, but the force of it is even more of an impact when the end has been apparent for quite some time.  We at We Are Movie Geeks hope that Corey Haim is finally able to find the peace his life was so without.

Corey Feldman Returns for Bloody Thirds

coreyfeldmenlostboys

It seems Warner Premiere feels the third time’s the charm, as they’ve committed to a third installment to follow up ‘Lost Boys: The Tribe’ which went direct-to-DVD. This third Lost Boys chapter will also be skipping the theatrical stage and it’s recently been announced that Evan Charnov (Fearless) has been hired to write the script.

In addition, and perhaps to some a much bigger, juicier bit of news, Corey Feldman has agreed to return to his character for this third run after having appeared in the 1987 original.

In addition, Corey Feldman has come on to executive produce and will also return once again as Edgar Frog. We’re told this film will actually focus on Feldman’s popular character (thank God). Corey Haim’s return as Sam Emerson is highly, highly unlikely at this point in time. — BD

Classic Shit: ‘Puppet Master Vs Demonic Toys’

classisshitlogosmall

“Classic Shit!† is a column dedicated to films that were maligned upon release and it is for films that are as entertaining as they are terrible. It is a home for cinema’s underdog.

If I say something is a classic, then take it with a grain of salt. If I call it shit, then I do it with love.

Discuss: A ‘Goonies’ Sequel !?!?!?!

Courtesy of MovieHole.com we have some BIG news for all the children of 80’s movie heaven out there (myself included) … after years of speculation, apparently a sequel to ‘Goonies’ IS happening! Clint from MovieHole informs us that his [unnamable] source is very reliable and I’ll take his word for it, because I want this to happen. If this wasn’t cool enough, apparently Warner Bros. will be giving it the proper big screen, large budget, wide theatrical release it deserves. I would have accepted a well-made direct-to-DVD sequel, but this is icing on the cake.

To read Clint’s full article, go to MovieHole.com

Few movies of the 80’s had the level of influence on me as a kid as this one did. It’s an amazing movie that contains adventure, terror, buried treasure, comedy and all sorts of other fun elements, including everyone’s favorite deformed giant Sloth. I mean,  how could you go wrong with this cast  … Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton and  Joe Pantoliano (Sopranos). Has anyone out there from my generation NOT seen this? [You are not  required to answer that.] For those who have, who’s your favorite Goonie? What is your favorite scene from the movie? With virtually nothing known about this sequel-in-progress, what would you as a fan like to see it become?
