Ridley Scott’s THE MARTIAN Highlight of 20th Century Fox’s CinemaCon 2015 Event

Following the exciting presentation at CinemaCon last week, 20th Century Fox released some new details for their upcoming releases. Check out the official synopses along with some photos for all their 2015 and 2016 films.

The highlight of the event was the must-see film of 2015 – Ridley Scott’s THE MARTIAN.

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return.

Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, THE MARTIAN features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.

Described by io9 as “amazing,” the audience assembled saw the first scenes from the movie. “The footage cuts from famous face to famous face, everyone preparing for a massive NASA launch, and the screen fills with glorious images from the red planet (this is directed by Ridley Scott, after all). It’s truly beautiful.”

Ryan Reynolds To Receive “CinemaCon Male Star of the Year Award”

WARNER BROS. PICTURES TO RELEASE “GREEN LANTERN” ON JUNE 17, 2011

Washington D.C., March 17, 2011 — Ryan Reynolds will receive the “CinemaCon Male Star of the Year Award,” it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of CinemaCon, which will be held March 28-31, 2011, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Reynolds will be presented with this special honor at the inaugural “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony to take place on Thursday evening, March 31st in The Colosseum of Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, Official Presenting Sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.

“Ryan Reynolds is one of Hollywood’s most sought after leading men, who has entertained audiences with his charmingly comedic onscreen presence,” noted Neuhauser. “Starring in the title role of the upcoming action adventure ‘Green Lantern,’ Ryan is sure to gain a whole new legion of fans, and we could not be more honored to present him with the ‘CinemaCon Male Star of the Year Award.'”

On June 17th, Ryan Reynolds stars in the big screen debut of the enduringly popular super hero GREEN LANTERN, released by Warner Bros. Pictures. Under the direction of Martin Campbell, Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan, a test pilot and the first human ever selected to wear the ring that grants him superpowers, as well as membership into the Green Lantern Corps, a brotherhood of warriors who have sworn to keep intergalactic order. Hal’s abilities are tested when a new enemy (Parallax) threatens to destroy the balance of power in the universe, but with encouragement from fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart, Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), and his determination and will power, Hal may prove to not only be the key to defeating the Parallax…he may become the greatest Green Lantern of them all.

Following “Green Lantern,” Reynolds stars with Jason Bateman and Olivia Wilde in “The Change-Up,” a comedy about a married guy who switches bodies with his best friend in order to woo his co-worker. Reynolds is currently filming the action thriller “Safe House,” which also stars Denzel Washington.

Reynolds first caught moviegoers’ attention with his lead role in the 2002 comedy “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder.” Since then, he has gone on to star in such box office hits and critically acclaimed films as “Smokin’ Aces,” “The Nines,” “Definitely, Maybe,” “Adventureland,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” and, most recently, “Buried.”

Helen Mirren To Receive CinemaCon Career Achievement Award

Washington, D.C., March 14, 2011 — Academy Award®-winning actress Helen Mirren will receive the “CinemaCon Career Achievement Award,” it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of CinemaCon, which will be held March 28-31, 2011, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Mirren will be presented with this special honor at the inaugural “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony to take place on Thursday evening, March 31st, in The Colosseum of Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, Official Presenting Sponsor of CinemaCon will host the final night gala awards program.

“A consummate actress, Helen Mirren has entertained audiences around the globe for over four decades with her stunning performances on the big screen,” noted Neuhauser. “With an incredible diversity in role selection, Mirren has graced the screen in such memorable movies as ‘The Queen,’ ‘The Last Station,’ and the ‘The Madness of King George,’ and, more recently, in 2010’s summer action hit ‘Red,’ to name just a few. We can’t wait to see what Helen has in store in her comedic turn in ‘Arthur.’ CinemaCon could not be more honored to present such an amazing actress with the CinemaCon Career Achievement Award.”

Mirren will next star in Warner Bros. Pictures’ romantic comedy “Arthur,” in theaters nationwide on April 8, 2011. In this fresh new look at a classic story, Mirren re-invents the role of Hobson, originally a butler played by John Gielgud, now a nanny, to loveable billionaire Arthur (Russell Brand), an irresponsible charmer who has always relied on her good sense to keep him out of trouble. The no-nonsense Hobson demonstrates great affection for her errant employer though he endlessly tests her patience as she tries to get him to grow up.

Helen Mirren has won international recognition for her work on stage, screen and television. She swept the Academy, Golden Globe, BAFTA and SAG Awards and every major critics’ award for her performance in “The Queen.” Mirren has also been Oscar-nominated for her work in “The Madness of King George,” “Gosford Park” and, most recently, “The Last Station,” and has earned acclaim for a wide range of roles in such films as “RED,” “The Tempest,” “State of Play,” “Calendar Girls,” “Teaching Mrs. Tingle,” “Cal” and “Excalibur,” among many others. On television, Mirren won an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a SAG Award for her performance in the title role of HBO’s “Elizabeth I.” She also earned two Emmy and three BAFTA Awards for her role as Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison in the award-winning series “Prime Suspect.” Her long list of television credits includes “Losing Chase,” “The Passion of Ayn Rand,” “Door to Door,” and “The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone.” Mirren has also worked extensively in the theatre, receiving two Tony Award nominations, the first for her work in “A Month in the Country,” and the second for her role in “Dance of Death.”

Russell Brand to Receive CinemaCon Comedy Star of the Year Award

WARNER BROS. PICTURES TO RELEASE “ARTHUR” ON APRIL 8, 2011

Russell Brand will receive the “CinemaCon Comedy Star of the Year Award,” it was announced by Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of CinemaCon, which will be held March 28-31, 2011, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Brand will be presented with this special honor at the inaugural “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony to take place on Thursday evening, March 31st, in The Colosseum of Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, Official Presenting Sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.

“Since his hilarious turn as rocker Aldous Snow in 2008’s ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall,’ Brand has been making audiences laugh around the world with his unique character portrayals and unforgettable comedic timing,” noted Neuhauser. “Brand is one of the most entertaining comedians on the big screen today and we could not be more honored to present him with the CinemaCon Comedy Star of the Year Award.”

Brand will next star in the title role of the April 8, 2011 romantic comedy “Arthur,” from Warner Bros. Pictures. In this fresh new look at a classic story, he re-invents the role of loveable billionaire Arthur Bach, an irresponsible charmer who has always relied on two things to get by: his limitless fortune and the good sense of lifelong nanny Hobson (Helen Mirren) to keep him out of trouble. Now he faces his biggest challenge of choosing between an arranged marriage to ambitious corporate exec. Susan (Jennifer Garner), that will insure his lavish lifestyle, or an uncertain future with Naomi (Greta Gerwig), the woman he really loves. With Naomi’s inspiration and some unconventional help from Hobson, Arthur will take the most expensive risk of his life and learn what it means to be a man. Brand also serves as an executive producer on the film.

Russell Brand first shot to fame in the U.S. starring as rocker Aldous Snow in the Judd Apatow-produced hit comedy “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” He later reprised the role in the hit comedy “Get Him to the Greek,” starring opposite Jonah Hill. Most recently, Brand lent his voice to the Easter Bunny in “Hop,” and Dr. Nefario in the hit animated feature film “Despicable Me.” He has also starred, alongside Helen Mirren, in Julie Taymor’s adaption of “The Tempest,” and in “Bedtime Stories,” with Adam Sandler and Keri Russell. His writing debut, My Booky Wook: A Memoir of Sex, Drugs, and Stand-Up, became a huge success in the United Kingdom, before being released in the U.S. where it stayed on the New York Times‘ bestseller list for five consecutive weeks. The follow up, My Booky Wook 2: This Time It’s Personal, was published in 2010.
