Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (Joust, Defender, Robotron and Wizard of Wor)

Commenting on the announcement, the film’s director, Chris Columbus, said, “There would be no way to make the movie without these legendary characters – they are as important to the film as the roles that Adam, Kevin, Michelle, Peter, Josh, and Brian are playing. It was a real thrill to see everything come together exactly as we envisioned it, and we’re grateful to have all of these fantastic companies on board.”

Producer Allen Covert added, “These classic characters are part of the DNA of the project, so it was critical that we work together to bring them on board. Fortunately, they were all extremely receptive. We approached them with a deep love for their characters and a respect for the elements that make them unique and iconic, and we’ve worked with the companies to incorporate those elements into the film.”

At Comic-Con San Diego, from July 24-27, arcaders 13 years of age and older with Comic-Con badges will have the chance to engage with many of these classic original arcade games and try them out again as the studio features a Pixels Electric Dreams Factory arcade at the Hard Rock Hotel, 209 5th Ave., San Diego.

New Photos From DreamWorks’ THE HELP

DreamWorks Studios has released nine new photos from THE HELP. (Insert BIG golf clap here). I absolutely love the line-up of actresses in this and, I might add, a nice birthday present for this Leo come next August too. From director Tate Taylor and starring Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, Octavia Spencer, Emma Stone and Sissy Spacek, THE HELP will hit theaters on August 12, 2011.

Synopsis:

Based on the novel by: Kathryn Stockett

Set in Mississippi during the 1960s, THE HELP stars Emma Stone (star of the breakout hit, “Zombieland”) as Skeeter, a southern society girl who returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends’ lives—and a small Mississippi town—upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families. Academy Award® nominee Viola Davis (“Eat Pray Love”) stars as Aibileen, Skeeter’s best friend’s housekeeper, who is the first to open up—to the dismay of her friends in the tight-knit black community. Despite Skeeter’s life-long friendships hanging in the balance, she and Aibileen continue their collaboration and soon more women come forward to tell their stories—and as it turns out, they have a lot to say. Along the way, unlikely friendships are forged and a new sisterhood emerges, but not before everyone in town has a thing or two to say themselves when they become unwittingly—and unwillingly—caught up in the changing times.

Rosario Dawson, Steve Coogan, and ‘Percy Jackson’

rosario-dawsonsteve-coogan

Rosario Dawson and Steve Coogan have jumped on board the Greek mythology, adventure film ‘Percy Jackson’ for Fox 2000.   They join a cast that already has Catherine Keener, Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd, Melina Kanakaredes, Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson.

Directed by Chris Columbus, ‘Percy Jackson’ tells the story of Poseidon’s half-human son, Percy, who finds himself in adventures in modern America.   The film is being adapted from Rick Riordan’s best-selling series of novels.

Dawson will be playing Persephone, the imprisoned wife of Hades, which is being played by Coogan.

The film is currently being shot in Vancouver for a February 12th, 2010 release.

Catherine Keener Signs Up For ‘Percy Jackson’

catherine-keener

Catherine Keener has signed on to appear in ‘Percy Jackson,’ the big screen adaptation of the fantasy book series by Rick Riordan. Â  The film, distributed by Fox 2000, will be directed by Chris Columbus with Craig Titley (‘See Spot Run’ and ‘Cheaper by the Dozen’) adapting the screenplay.

‘Percy Jackson’ is about a young boy who realizes he is the descendant of the Greek god, Poseidon. Â  The boy sets out on a journey to cease a brewing war amongst the gods. Â  Keener will be playing the boy’s mother, who has kept her son safe but has recently been kidnapped by Hades.

Keener is joining a cast that already boasts  Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd and Melina Kanakaredes. Logan Lerman is playing Percy.

What do you think? Â  Is Keener the right choice to play the mother of the descendant of Poseidon? Â  Does it feel like Keener is pigeon-holing herself into these types of roles? Â  Is Columbus the right choice to bring ‘Percy Jackson’ to the big screen? Â  Let us know by commenting below!

‘Percy Jackson’ is set for a release February 12th, 2010.

Uma Thurman and Pierce Brosnan become Gods

thurmanbrosnanpj

If you’re a man then you understand why I say Uma was meant to play a Goddess. As far as Pierce goes, I’m sure there are plenty of women who would agree. Unfortunately, her “talents” are being mis-used in the case of the new fantasy flick being directed by Chris Columbus.

Story centers on Poseidon’s 12-year-old half-human son (Lerman), who embarks on a quest across modern-day America to save his mother, return Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt and prevent a deadly war between the gods. — Variety

Uma Thurman has been cast as the mythical non-God creature Medusa. What a waste! Anyway, Pierce Brosnan will play the part of Chiron and Sean Bean (The Hitcher) has been elevated to the role of Zeus. Kevin McKidd (Rome) becomes Poseidon and Melina Kanakerides (The Guiding Light) will be Athena.

With these names attached, the studio is still looking for the right thespians to fill the roles of Aries, Hades and Persephone. Any ideas? The production will begin shooting in April 2009 and is expected to hit theaters in February 2010.
