“I uncovered some amazing lost scenes that I wasn’t able to include in the original film and am so happy to see them added back into this cut. This film is so special to me and I can’t wait for everyone to fall in love with it all over again,” said director Jamie Babbit.

This whimsically edgy comedy, directed by Jamie Babbit, follows teenager Megan (Natasha Lyonne), whose suburban existence filled with friends, cheerleading, and all-American fun is upended when her straight-laced parents suspect she may be a lesbian. In a panic, they send her to True Directions, a “rehabilitation” camp run by the strict and prudish Mary (Cathy Moriarty), to mount an intervention led by counselor Mike (RuPaul Charles). Megan dutifully follows the program — until she develops feelings for another camper (Clea DuVall) in this timeless, satirical romantic-comedy about self-acceptance and love, also costarring Melanie Lynskey, Eddie Cibrian, and Michelle Williams.

The But I’m a Cheerleader: Director’s Cut special features include an audio commentary, Jamie Babbit’s student film Discharge, and three new featurettes, including the “But I’m a Cheerleader Class Reunion” reuniting the cast for the first time in 20 years.

The 20th Anniversary But I’m a Cheerleader: Director’s Cut Digital 4K Ultra HD will be available for the suggested retail price of $9.99.

BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER Midnights at The Tivoli This Weekend

“She’s just upset because the fish on her plate is the only kind she can eat.”

BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER plays this weekend (August 17th and 18th) at The Tivoli at midnight as part of their Reel Late at the Tivoli midnight series.

Natasha Lyonne stars in BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER as Megan Williams, a seemingly normal cheer-leader at her local high-school. However, the posters of Melissa Etheridge on her bedroom wall, her less-than-enthusiastic kisses with her boyfriend plus her enthusiasm for tofu lead Megan’s parents and friends to suspect her of being a lesbian, and she is promptly packed off to True Directions, a ‘Sexual Rehabilitation’ camp led by Cathy Moriarty and an out-of-drag RuPaul. Megan’s not even sure that she is a lesbian, but once at the camp she meets several other gay teens, including Clea DuVall’s Graham… The story may be a simple one, then, but at least BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER  offers something different to the usual slew of teen comedies and, crucially, it doesn’t cop out at the end, either.

It’s also perfectly cast, with Natasha Lyonne playing the slightly-confused Megan to perfection and Clea DuVall turning in another of her trademark ‘moody’ teens. There’s also strong comic support from Cathy Moriarty and RuPaul. There’s even an extended cameo from Michelle Williams, as one of Megan’s fellow cheer-leaders who ‘turns her in’ at the beginning. Stylistically, the film owes a lot to John Waters, with whom it shares the same garish color schemes and costumes – Waters regular, Mink Stole, plays Megan’s mother, just to underline the connection. There’s also a memorably foul-mouthed joke regarding a midnight trip to a colorfully-named nightclub (the film’s best line) that similarly carries the stamp of Waters’ humor. It’s true that BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER is something of a one-joke movie, and is also perhaps a little over-reliant on its collection of stereotypes. However, it makes up for this with its superbly game cast, its impressively garish use of color and its obvious feeling for the subject matter.

The Tivoli’s located at 6350 Delmar Blvd., University City, MO. Admission is a mere $8!

The Tivoli Announces the ‘Reel Late’ Midnight Line-Up – THE WITCH, ERASERHEAD, MAD MAX

“You killed Ted, you medieval dickweed!”

Another brilliant lineup of midnight movies for the ‘Reel Late at The Tivoli’ to kick off the summer 2018 season. It’s an especially good variety of titles that will draw the late night movie buff crowd with several retro surprises. The Midnight Movie experience has always catered to a college-age crowd and that’s the way it should be. The oldest film this time is David Lynch’s ERASERHEAD from 1978 and the most recent is THE WITCH  from 2015. There’s a Miyazaki of course (SPIRITED AWAY) and a couple of standards including BILL AND TED’S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE and GHOST IN THE SHELL . I’ve been hosting the midnight show at The Tivoli for ten years now and I’m certain CRIMSON PEAK, BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER and THE WITCH, all new to the Tivoli midnight roster,  will draw good crowds.

The Tivoli is located in St. Louis at 6350 Delmar Blvd. in “the Loop”

Here’s the line-up:

July 27-28: BILL AND TED’S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE

August 3-4: ERASERHEAD

August 10-11: GHOST IN THE SHELL

August 17-18: BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER

August 24-25: CRIMSON PEAK

August 31 – Sept. 1: MAD MAX FURY ROAD

Sept 7-8: SPIRITED AWAY

Sept 14-15: THE WITCH
