10 Best Things About STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer

Bnu3ZS9IgAAIaYj

“There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The Dark Side… and the Light.”

On Friday, the collective Force of the internet geeked out over the first look at J.J. Abrams’ STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. December 2015 can’t come soon enough!

Noticeably absent from the 88 second teaser: Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, and Domhnall Gleeson as well original trilogy stars Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill.

Whether you watched it on Friday morning on the big screen, laptop or on your smart phone, the return of Star Wars gave fans (and Wookiees) goosebumps.

Seeing as we’re excited as HELL over the brand new footage, we decided to go over the 10 must-see highlights from the early teaser. “This will be a day long remembered.”

x1626CROP_tea0050_PUB_2_35_noMB_16int.v07.4 (1)

1 & 2. The Millenium Falcon vs The TIE Fighters

The spectacular flying scene delivers a one-two punch. Our hearts skipped a beat when we saw the ship that made the Kessel Run in “less than twelve parsecs” as well as the dreaded ships from the Imperial Fleet.

x1331_tea0040_pub_still.v03.1 (2)

3. Tri-Lightsaber with a Sith Lord?

Or is it really a Jedi Knight? Maybe Adam Driver? Whatever the case, we’re in. We loved Darth Maul wielding a double-bladed lightsaber in STAR WARS Episode I: THE PHANTOM MENACE, but this triple bladed, medieval swordlike saber is off the chain!

x551_tea0010_Denoised3_16int.2 (1)

4. John Boyega as a Stormtrooper

The first character that appears on the screen in the teaser is that of John Boyega. Why is he a stormtrooper and where is he – Tatooine? Wouldn’t it be great if this is all just some elaborate pretense and Boyega is actually one of the heroes of the new trilogy!

5. Stormtroopers

“We ran into some old friends.” We were left grinning by the soldiers from George Lucas’s Galactic Empire. Could Boyega be the Stormtrooper standing center in the picture above?

6. X-wing Fighters

The squadron flying in formation. A new planet in the STAR WARS universe. Consider ourselves sold!

7. First look at Oscar Isaac

And in an X-wing Fighter! Featured as one of the pilots from the Rebel Alliance, the actor is a great addition to the new chapter. But what’s with his war-torn helmet?

8. Droids

“These aren’t the Droids you’re looking for.” But the cute soccer ball shaped Droid is. We loved this first glance at R2-D2 2.0.

9. Daisy Ridley and the Landspeeder/Podracer

While not confirmed, the Princess Leia/Han Solo offspring has the gusto of the original characters from STAR WARS Episode IV: A NEW HOPE. The fantastic and familiar sound of her speeder was just icing on the cake.

10. John Williams theme music – old and new

The music. They got us with the music.

Get ready for the duelling JUNGLE BOOK movies.

Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that it has assembled a big cast of stars for JUNGLE BOOK: ORIGINS, its new big-screen, 3D adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic The Jungle Book, marking the feature film directorial debut of Andy Serkis.

The action adventure, which will blend motion capture and live action, will be released on October 21, 2016.

Meanwhile, Disney’s THE JUNGLE BOOK will be in theaters a full year earlier. Helmed by Jon Favreau, this film will star Bill Murray, Christopher Walken, Giancarlo Esposito, Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong’o, Idris Elba and Scarlett Johansson, and will released October 9, 2015.

86th Oscars, ArrivalsBenedict Cumberbatchchristianbale

The actors performing the roles of the JUNGLE BOOK: ORIGINS’ central animal characters are: Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”) as the fearsome tiger, Shere Khan; Oscar winner Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine”) as the sinister snake, Kaa; Oscar winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter,” the “Dark Knight” Trilogy) as the cunning panther, Bagheera; Andy Serkis (“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”) as the wise bear, Baloo; Peter Mullan (“Hercules”) as the leader of the wolf pack, Akela; Tom Hollander as the scavenging hyena, Tabaqui; Naomi Harris (“Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”) as Nisha, the female wolf, who adopts the baby Mowgli as one of her cubs; Eddie Marsan (“Ray Donovan”) as Nisha’s mate, Vihaan; and Jack Reynor (“Transformers: Age of Extinction”) as Mowgli’s Brother Wolf.

On the human side, young actor Rohan Chand (“The Hundred-Foot Journey,” “Bad Words”) will play the boy raised by wolves, Mowgli.

The story follows the upbringing of the human child Mowgli, raised by a wolf pack in the jungles of India. As he learns the often harsh rules of the jungle, under the tutelage of a bear named Baloo and a panther named Bagheera, Mowgli becomes accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own. All but one: the fearsome tiger Shere Khan. But there may be greater dangers lurking in the jungle, as Mowgli comes face to face with his human origins.

The film is being produced by Steve Kloves, who wrote seven of the “Harry Potter” films. Jonathan Cavendish (“Elizabeth: The Golden Age,” performance capture producer “Godzilla”) is also serving as a producer. The screenplay is by Kloves’ daughter, Callie Kloves, based on the stories by Kipling.

Rave Reviews For Matt Reeves’ DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES; Plus Global Premiere Photos

Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman, Matt Reeves, Keri Russell, Jason Clarke

In the week that was DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, fans of the franchise were able to get their fill of all things ape with the global premiere in San Francisco, a Live Google+ Hangout chat which included the film’s cast and director, a new clip and featurette, and Andy Serkis improvising a Gollum/Caesar conversation during a visit to Conan O’Brien.

The early and overwhelmingly positive reviews for the film came in Saturday morning:

Guy Lodge  (Variety) – “‘Cloverfield’ director Matt Reeves helms a bleak but spectacular sequel to the 2011 man-vs.-monkey hit.”

Steve Weintraub (Collider) – “Reeves has hit a massive home-run with this film and I truly hope audiences and critics embrace this special movie.”

Drew McWeeny (HitFix) – “Heartbreaking and harrowing, “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” is as good as big-budget science-fiction gets, technically dazzling and emotionally demanding.”

Todd McCarthy (THR) – “There is no question that Andy Serkis gives the most expressive, soulful, deeply felt performance of a non-human character the big screen has ever offered as the mature Caesar.”

Andy Serkis visits Conan O’Brien

At one time the concept of successfully rebooting the PLANET OF THE APES series into a viable new franchise seemed impossible. But 2011’s RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, along with the majestic performance of Andy Serkis and groundbreaking visual effects from Weta Digital, did indeed launch a new franchise. The film became a global hit, grossing nearly $500 million and receiving critical and audience acclaim. It was the first live-action motion picture to star and be told from the point of view of a sentient animal — a character with human qualities and with whom moviegoers experienced a real emotional bond.

Rise was an emotionally arresting story, which the filmmakers wanted to carry forward in DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Rise of the Planet of the Apes concluded with the apes breaking free from their human captors – just as a deadly human-created virus spread globally. Caesar, the benevolent ape leader, leads the apes to Muir Woods, a haven outside of San Francisco, where Caesar, then a young chimpanzee, was taken by his human friend Will to escape the confines of the city.

Matt Reeves
Matt Reeves

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES director Matt Reeves wanted the continuity of his movie to fit into that timeline. “The story we are telling will lead to Planet of the Apes, and not Planet of the Humans and Apes, so it’s about how this film fits into that narrative.”

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES also explores how the apes evolved from the mostly mute but intelligent animals of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, into articulate, civilized beings that emerge as Earth’s dominant species within the canon of the Planet of the Apes franchise.

Reeves explains: “In Rise of the Planet of the Apes the apes said only a few words. With this film we show the apes at the dawn of their society, and learning to truly speak. Inevitably, the younger generation will be better with language than their parents, which leads to a very complicated portrait of the apes’ cultural order. This is the ape society that eventually evolves into what we see in the 1968 Planet of the Apes with an organized government, military and science.”

Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa
Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES co-screenwriter Mark Bomback says one of the script’s biggest challenges was to depict how the apes communicate with each other and how much the apes articulate verbally. “At the end of Rise of the Planet of the Apes it’s shocking when Caesar speaks an entire sentence. In this film, we explore how much further the apes have advanced in their language skills.”

Producers and screenwriters Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa were at the San Francisco premiere and likened Caesar to a cross between Moses and Pinnochio. “He starts off wanting to be a real boy in RISE and by the end is leading his people to the Promise Land.”

Watch The Incredible New Weta FX Featurette For DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

ApesVFX

When 20th Century Fox released PLANET OF THE APES on February 8, 1968, audiences saw Pierre Boulle’s novel come to life on the big screen through futuristic sets and costumes, John Chambers’ Oscar-winning makeup and a percussion heavy score by Jerry Goldsmith. Shot by cinematographer Leon Shamroy, CGI wasn’t even a thought yet.

As noted in the documentary Behind the Planet of the Apes (narrated by Roddy McDowall “Cornelius”), the special effect shot of the half-buried Statue of Liberty at the end of the film was completed by adding a matte painting with existing cliffs. The iconic shot looking down at Taylor (Charlton Heston) was done from a 70-foot scaffold, angled over a 1/2-scale papier-mache model of the Statue.

Jump ahead 30 plus years to where the apes and scenes will be created through the Oscar-winning visual effects house WETA Digital.

Employing a new generation of the cutting edge performance capture technologies developed for RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and AVATAR, WETA will again render photo-realistic, emotionally-engaging apes.

Director Matt Reeves, actor Andy Serkis, producer Dylan Clark, VFX Supervisors Erik Winquist & Dan Lemmon, and Senior VFX Supervisor Joe Letteri give a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES in this fascinating new featurette.

Join the APES Google+ Hangout on Thursday, June 26th with Director Matt Reeves and Cast Keri Russel, Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis and Jason Clarke.

RSVP HERE.

For a more in-depth look, watch this interview with VFX Supervisor Erik Winquist from Weta Digital.

On July 11th, DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES at long last hits the big screen.

As director Matt Reeves tweeted out –

The final U.S. and international trailers for 20th Century Fox’s highly anticipated film have arrived and both are loaded with new, emotional scenes of family (both human and ape), epic battles and untold sacrifice. The music clinches it and Reeves appears to have captured the essence of what made the original films one of the best loved franchises in cinematic history.

Here’s a brand new clip from the film.

Chilling New DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Featurette

DPA_Group_Bridge_VER_C_SRGB

20th Century Fox has released a new featurette for DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES that’s very unnerving. Beginning with RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, the video connects the two movies and shows what happened to mankind after the 2011 film finished. It ain’t good folks.

(via MSN)

Plus, via the film’s Facebook page, a new photo of “Caesar’s loving partner” Cornelia, along with their baby, was unveiled.

The pair in the original APES franchise were Zira and Cornelius. Their chimpanzee baby born in the third film, ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES (1971), is hidden by Armando (Ricardo Montalbán) and grows up to become Caesar in the fourth film, CONQUEST OF PLANET OF THE APES (1972).

The screenwriters from RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, hid easter egg names throughout the film. It was a fantastic wink to the original movies. I hope they’ve done the same with DAWN.
