Al Pacino stars as aging 1970s rocker Danny Collins, who can’t give up his hard-living ways. But when his manager (Christopher Plummer) uncovers a 40 year-old undelivered letter written to him by John Lennon, he decides to change course and embarks on a heartfelt journey to rediscover his family, find true love and begin a second act.

Based on Phillip Roth’s final novel, Al Pacino stars in the trailer for director Barry Levinson new film, THE HUMBLING.

Having screened at The Toronto International Film Festival and Venice Film Festival, the movie tells the story of over-the-hill stage actor Simon Axler (Pacino) and his struggle to find his passion for life again.

Jo-Ann Titmarsh (HeyUGuys.com) says in her Venice review: “Levinson has made an intelligent, incredibly funny and most human film.”

Drafthouse Films has released the new trailer for THE DOG – an intimate portrait of the vivacious John Wojtowicz, the inspiration behind Al Pacino’s character in Sidney Lumet’s Oscar-Nominated DOG DAY AFTERNOON.

Coming of age in the 1960s, John Wojtowicz took pride in being a pervert. His libido was excessive even by the libertine standards of the era, with multiple wives and lovers, both women and men.

In August, 1972, he attempted to rob a Brooklyn bank to finance his lover’s sex reassignment surgery. The attempted heist resulted in a fourteen-hour hostage situation that was broadcast on TV. Three years later, Pacino portrayed his character instigating the unforgettable crime on the big screen. The award-winning film had a profound influence on Wojtowicz, and when he emerged from prison six years later, he became known as “The Dog.”

Filmed over the course of a ten-year period by co-directors Allison Berg and Frank Keraudren, and interweaving extraordinary archival footage on the robbery, 70s era interviews and the early gay liberation movement in which “The Dog” played an active role, the documentary captures the many sides of John Wojtowicz’s larger- than-life persona.

THE DOG opens in theaters August 8th and On Demand August 15th.

Everyone has their favorite THE GODFATHER characters, favorite moments, favorite lines. There are so very many good reasons why THE GODFATHER will always be remembered so fondly. No matter how many times you see it the film never fails to make an impact. Even if you’ve seen it so often you essentially have it memorized line for line and shot for shot, it remains a thrilling experience. From the famous opening scene with Marlon Brando’s Don Vito Corleone receiving requests for favors on the occasion of his daughter’s wedding all the way to the end and the final settling of all family business the film never lets up. It’s an undeniably powerful story and one which retains the capacity to surprise. Initially it seems obvious that the story is about Don Vito Corleone. He is the Godfather after all, but for as powerful a presence as Brando is, as the story plays itself out there comes the moment where you realize this is the story of Don Vito’s son Michael, as played so well by Al Pacino. When Michael comes into his own, the film, gripping from the start, becomes even more compelling. Has any character in any film evolved more than Michael Corleone does here? The Michael we meet at his sister’s wedding bears no resemblance to the man we see in the end.

Brando and Pacino are the headliners but they are wonderfully supported by an amazing cast which includes the likes of James Caan, Robert Duvall, and Diane Keaton – and who can forget Al Lettieri (who battled Bronson in MR MAJESTYK and McQueen in THE GETAWAY before his 1975 death at age 47) as Sollozzo? And that’s just scratching the surface. The world of THE GODFATHER is quite unlike any other, often imitated but never duplicated. It’s a triumph in every sense for director Francis Ford Coppola, but perhaps his biggest success is in making you sympathize with the Corleones. We know right from the start that Don Vito Corleone is a man capable of doing monstrous things, but we identify with him anyway. And one cannot help but feel for Michael as he is inexorably pulled into the family business.

Al Pacino Receives The Jaeger-Le Coultre Glory To The Filmmaker 2011 Award At Venice International Film Festival

Legendary American actor and director Al Pacino is the recipient of the Jaeger-Le Coultre Glory to the Filmmaker 2011 Award, a prize of the Venice International Film Festival (organized by the Biennale di Venezia), created in collaboration with Jaeger-Le Coultre, and dedicated to an artist who has left an original mark on contemporary cinema. The prize has previously been awarded to some of the greatest figures in film including: Takeshi Kitano (2007), Abbas Kiarostami (2008), Agnès Varda (2008), Sylvester Stallone (2009) and Mani Ratnam (2010).

This year, the award celebrates Al Pacino and his achievements as a filmmaker. The awards ceremony took place on Sunday September 4th during the 68th Venice International Film Festival (August 31st – September 10th 2011) directed by Marco Mueller and organized by the Biennale di Venezia chaired by Paolo Baratta. Festival Director, Marco Mueller, describes Pacino as, “An amazing director, whose experience is precious and original, and enriches the world of contemporary film.” The award ceremony preceded the world premiere of Pacino’s third feature-length directorial picture, WILDE SALOME. Referred to as his “most personal project ever,” the unconventional feature documentary invites audiences into Pacino’s private world, as he explores the complexities of Oscar Wilde’s acclaimed play Salome, Wilde himself and the birth of a rising star, in actress Jessica Chastain.

“There is nowhere else I would rather debut Wilde Salome than at Venice, because of its rich artistic history. Wilde Salome is an exploration into the world of Oscar Wilde the artist and in Salome, the emancipation of a work that lives on” said Pacino.

WILDE SALOME will be released this fall and stars Al Pacino (Herod), Jessica Chastain (Salomé), and Kevin Anderson (John the Baptist), and is produced by Barry Navidi and Robert Fox, with Salome Productions.

The director of the festival Marco Mueller invited Jessica Chastain on stage to present the prize to Al Pacino. It was with deep emotion that the actress (a talent discovered by Al Pacino) expressed how honored she was to give the prize to Al Pacino and underlined Jaeger-LeCoultre’s involvement in the world of cinema: “I am proud to present this award to Mr. Pacino on behalf of Jaeger-LeCoultre. Al Pacino has become a lasting and iconic figure in the world of American cinema. Pacino started on the stage in the mid-1960s and his heart still remains there today.
