10 Best Things About STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer

Bnu3ZS9IgAAIaYj

“There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The Dark Side… and the Light.”

On Friday, the collective Force of the internet geeked out over the first look at J.J. Abrams’ STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. December 2015 can’t come soon enough!

Noticeably absent from the 88 second teaser: Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, and Domhnall Gleeson as well original trilogy stars Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill.

Whether you watched it on Friday morning on the big screen, laptop or on your smart phone, the return of Star Wars gave fans (and Wookiees) goosebumps.

Seeing as we’re excited as HELL over the brand new footage, we decided to go over the 10 must-see highlights from the early teaser. “This will be a day long remembered.”

1 & 2. The Millenium Falcon vs The TIE Fighters

The spectacular flying scene delivers a one-two punch. Our hearts skipped a beat when we saw the ship that made the Kessel Run in “less than twelve parsecs” as well as the dreaded ships from the Imperial Fleet.

x1331_tea0040_pub_still.v03.1 (2)

3. Tri-Lightsaber with a Sith Lord?

Or is it really a Jedi Knight? Maybe Adam Driver? Whatever the case, we’re in. We loved Darth Maul wielding a double-bladed lightsaber in STAR WARS Episode I: THE PHANTOM MENACE, but this triple bladed, medieval swordlike saber is off the chain!

4. John Boyega as a Stormtrooper

The first character that appears on the screen in the teaser is that of John Boyega. Why is he a stormtrooper and where is he – Tatooine? Wouldn’t it be great if this is all just some elaborate pretense and Boyega is actually one of the heroes of the new trilogy!

5. Stormtroopers

“We ran into some old friends.” We were left grinning by the soldiers from George Lucas’s Galactic Empire. Could Boyega be the Stormtrooper standing center in the picture above?

6. X-wing Fighters

The squadron flying in formation. A new planet in the STAR WARS universe. Consider ourselves sold!

7. First look at Oscar Isaac

And in an X-wing Fighter! Featured as one of the pilots from the Rebel Alliance, the actor is a great addition to the new chapter. But what’s with his war-torn helmet?

8. Droids

“These aren’t the Droids you’re looking for.” But the cute soccer ball shaped Droid is. We loved this first glance at R2-D2 2.0.

9. Daisy Ridley and the Landspeeder/Podracer

While not confirmed, the Princess Leia/Han Solo offspring has the gusto of the original characters from STAR WARS Episode IV: A NEW HOPE. The fantastic and familiar sound of her speeder was just icing on the cake.

10. John Williams theme music – old and new

The music. They got us with the music.

THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU – The Review

_D5A8187.DNG

76-year old Jane Fonda’s enhanced bosom is milked for big laughs in the new comedy THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU. Hillary Altman, the matriarch of a dysfunctional middle-class New Jersey family gathered to bury her husband, is the best role Hanoi Jane has had in decades (not saying much) and she has a great time with it, wistfully recalling the circumference of her late husband’s schlong and refusing to cover up her store-bought rack despite her kid’s constant embarrassment. The rest of THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU is a mixed bag and doesn’t measure up to what Fonda is doing but it has enough good moments to recommend.

Jason Bateman stars in THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU as cuckolded radio producer Judd Altman. Not only does his wife (Abigail Spencer) cheat on him in the opening scenes, but does so with his boss (Dax Shepard), therefore he gets to lose both his job and his marriage before the opening credits have rolled. To make matters worse, he is then thrown together for a week with his three siblings (Tina Fey, Adam Driver, and Corey Stoll) upon the death of their father, an atheist Jew for whom the inappropriate gentile Hillary (Fonda) insists the family sit shiva (a Jewish custom of seven days of mourning) – and they do it right on the spot where they used to set up the family Christmas tree! It seems Mom had written a best-seller years earlier in which she exposed the sexual hang-ups of her kids so this week of togetherness gives them all the chance to relive the embarrassment and play out familiar family dynamics. The relationship between Judd and brother Paul (Stoll) is dominated by old resentment and awkwardness with the fact that Paul’s wife (Kathryn Hahn) is one of Judd’s former girlfriends. Judd’s married sister (an underused Fey) takes the opportunity of being home to reconnect with a brain-damaged former love (Timothy Olyphant) while steering clear of most of the family mayhem. Phillip (Driver), the baby of the family and chronic screw-up, delivers outrageous fabrications about his current occupation to anyone who asks and brings home a new girlfriend (Connie Britton) who’s much older and wiser. Mom’s infamous directness just adds more tension and humor to the situation.

THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU plays like a coming-of-age story for a middle-aged man and packs in a lot of characters and situations into its 105 minutes. Screenwriter Jonathan Tropper tries to squeeze in too much from his novel, shortchanging some of the characters (especially Ms Fey who barely makes an impression). Tonally the film is all over the map, not always successful in straddling the line between comedy and drama. Jokes about Fonda’s boobs and Wendy’s toddler’s toilet training are interspersed with heavy dialog and speeches about infidelity, miscarriage, and the heartbreaking pitfalls of parenting. Every dramatic base is covered – I kept waiting for someone to come out of the closet as gay to the astonished family, and sure enough it happens right near the end. The acting is excellent across the board with the exception of Ben Schwartz, whose ridiculously broad shtick as ‘Boner’ the spastic rabbi seems piped in from a Mel Brooks comedy.

I wished I liked THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU more than I did. It made me laugh but failed on an emotional level – I never got that universal feeling we all share about the ritual of going home for something like the funeral of a loved one: the dread, the constant reminders of why you left, and the comfort gained from the knowledge that there exists a “home” to which you can return. But for a late-summer time-killer THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU is good enough and Jane Fonda’s geriatric jugs are indeed quite impressive.

Star Wars: Episode VII

THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU Trailer Stars Jason Bateman, Tina Fey and Jane Fonda

TIWILY-06199r

Watch the first trailer for THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU, starring Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne and Oscar-winner Jane Fonda.

This looks great. I can’t wait to see it!

The dramatic comedy THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU is directed by Shawn Levy, and based on the hilarious and poignant best-selling novel by Jonathan Tropper. It features a starring ensemble cast including Golden Globe winner Jason Bateman (“Arrested Development”); Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Tina Fey (“30 Rock”); and two-time Oscar winner, multiple Golden Globe honoree and 2013 Emmy Award nominee Jane Fonda (“Klute,” “Coming Home,” HBO’s “The Newsroom”).

When their father passes away, four grown siblings, bruised and banged up by their respective adult lives, are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. Confronting their history and the frayed states of their relationships among the people who know and love them best, they ultimately reconnect in hysterical and emotionally affecting ways amid the chaos, humor, heartache and redemption that only families can provide—driving us insane even as they remind us of our truest, and often best, selves.

Levy, who helmed the blockbuster NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM films, as well as DATE NIGHT and REAL STEEL, directs from a screenplay by Jonathan Tropper.

The film also stars Adam Driver (HBO’s “Girls”), Rose Byrne (“Bridesmaids,” “X-Men: First Class”), Corey Stoll (“House of Cards,” “Midnight in Paris”), Kathryn Hahn (NBC’s “Parks and Recreation”).

THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU is produced by Paula Weinstein (“The Perfect Storm,” HBO’s “Recount”) Shawn Levy, and Jeffrey Levine (HBO’s “Too Big to Fail”). Mary McLaglen (“Real Steel,” “The Proposal”) and Jonathan Tropper serve as executive producers. The creative filmmaking team includes director of photography Terry Stacey (“Safe Haven,” “50/50”), production designer Ford Wheeler (“Rachel Getting Married”), editor Dean Zimmerman (“Real Steel”) and costume designer Susan Lyall (“RED”). The music is by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino (“Up”).

The film opens September 12, 2014.
