Comedy mastermind Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy) produced the film along with Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, the comedy collective known as The Lonely Island (“I’m on a Boat,” “Lazy Sunday”), who also wrote and star in the film. Trailer and Poster for 13

13 is the debut film from French filmmaker Géla Babluani, starring Sam Riley, 50 Cent, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham and Ray Winstone. Both a psychological thriller and gritty tale of the underworld, this movie looks intense and incredibly awesome. 13, which premiered in the United States on March 13th, 2010 at the SXSW Film Festival, is a remake of the 2006 French film, a tensely constructed story shot in black and white.

Synopsis: A naive young man assumes a dead man’s identity and finds himself embroiled in an underground world of power, violence, and chance where men gamble behind closed doors on the lives of other men.

Trailer and Poster for Danny Trejo’s VENGEANCE

Check out the trailer and poster for the new film VENGEANCE, starring Danny Trejo. This grindhouse-style film is written and directed by Gil Medina, also features a supporting cast of Jason Mewes, Donal Logue, 50 Cent and Dallas Page. The film is st for release in the US on November 11, 2010.

Jack (Danny Trejo) is a retired undercover vice cop whose world is suddenly torn apart by the murder of his wife and daughter. After serving a prison term for a crime he didn’t commit, Jack returns to the streets with a vengeance against crime, and takes to vigilantism.

‘Twelve’ Cast Set for Schumacher

The cast has been finalized for Joel Schumacher’s next film, an adaptation of the Nick McDonells novel ‘Twelve.’ Â  Chace Crawford, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Ellen Barkin, Emma Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, and Rory Culkin will star.

The story follows a high school  dropout-turned-drug dealer. His lucrative life sours when the dealer’s cousin is brutally murdered on an East Harlem playground and his best friend is arrested for the crime.   McDonell was 17 at the time he wrote the novel in 2002.

Schumacher has been pretty hit-and-miss for the past 15 years, making some really good movies like ‘Flawless’, ‘Tigerland’, ‘Phone Booth’, and ‘The Phantom of the Opera.’ Â  However, in the last ten years, he has also made films like ‘8MM’, ‘Bad Company’, and ‘The Number 23’, and that’s not even mentioning the ’97 debacle that was ‘Batman and Robin.’ Â  It will be interesting to see him do a more down-to-earth film such as this, as that seems to be where he does his best work.

Production beings on ‘Twelve’ later this month.

The Expendables: Whitaker out, 50 Cent out, Crews in?

UPDATE: Harry Knowles over at AICN just reported another casting change in the role of Hale CAESAR, which once belonged to Forest Whitaker before 50 Cent took over. Movie Geeks will be pleased to know that 50 Cent is out and TERRY CREWS (The 6th Day) is now ‘Expendable’ as Hale Caesar.

Alright, this news is maybe a couple days old, but I felt compelled to share it anyway. Any movie geeks on the testosterone team out there ought to be aware of Sly Stallone’s newest project called ‘The Expendable’. If not, well… what’s up, man?

Of the various cool casting choices made for this movie, including Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Eric Roberts and even Randy Couture, the best actor to fill out this action-fest was Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker. That is, of course, until recently when he was forced to drop out due to a late start in production.

So, who did Stallone go to to fill in the gap? Laurence Fishburne, Cuba Gooding Jr, hell… even Wesley Snipes? Nope. Stallone made a not so “sly” movie in casting 50 Cent of all people! Huh? (my thoughts exactly) Here’s what Stallone had to say when asked to comment on this recent change of casting:

“The anger of the casting of 50 Cent is understandable, but not fair. A player is only as good as his coach. If a man can communicate in one medium, he can communicate in another if his strengths are brought out and he has the support of well-wishers.” — Sylvester Stallone

More have signed on for ’13’

Well, here comes another remake, but a french one. Based on the 2005 version,  ’13 Tzameti’ is coming to the United States. Other than the six new actors the  film will be written and directed by Gela Babluani, who also wrote and directed the French version. The new actors that have joined the project are Mickey Rourke, Ray Winstone, Jason Statham, Sam Riley, 50 Cent and Ray Liotta. Now, I don’t know about you, but that is a pretty dynamic cast and I’m looking forward to this high pace thriller.

Hollywood Remake Machine Hits ’13 Tzameti’

Paramount Vantage is handling distribution on the English-language remake of  Gà ©la Babluani’s thriller, ’13 Tzameti’.   Babluani will be writing and directing the remake, and production begins in New York on November 17.   The kickass cast to the remake includes Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, 50 Cent, and Sam Rockwell.

The film follows a man who steals a mysterious package that he feels will lead him to immense wealth. Â  What he finds is an underground game where men murder one another to come out as the sole survivor. Â  The film is really suspenseful and atmospheric and would probably benefit from a decent-sized, American remake.

Like Michael Haneke writing and directing an American remake to ‘Funny Games’, I don’t have a problem with a filmmaker wanting to redo his film for a different country’s audience. Â  I, for one, am looking forward to seeing what the American version of ’13 Tzameti’ has to offer.
