Trailer emerges for ‘2012’

2012

From Trailer Addict via Yahoo Movies, the Emmerich Brothers are at it again with another doomsday film, ‘2012.’ While I’m sure their script will be lame, as they usually are, this trailer is anything but. The CGI is amazing and sure to garner some Oscar nominations come awards season. The jaw-dropping “money shot” of the USS  John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier barreling over and destroying  the White House leaves you wanting more. From Columbia and Sony Pictures, ‘2012’ is due out November 13.

‘2012’ Teaser Poster Released

2012

This is it?   That’s what we get from a teaser poster for a film about the end of the world directed by Roland Emmerich?   At least give us a shot of the massive tidal wave coming over the mountains that made the teaser trailer so freaky. Columbia could’ve done better here.   The tagline isn’t even that good.

“Who will be left behind?”

Notice the URL at the bottom?   whowillsurvive2012.com   How about we make the tagline “Who will survive?”   That would make a little sense.

‘2012’ comes out on November 13th, 2010.

‘2012’ Gets Pushed Back to November

‘2012’, the new end-of-the-world blockbuster helmed by Roland Emmerich was scheduled to hit on July 10th. Â  It looks like Sony has decided to push the film back all the way to November 13th, two weeks before Thanksgiving.

“We’ve had such success with the James Bond films in November that we wanted a big tent-pole film in that slot this year,” Sony distribution president Rory Bruer said Tuesday. “We’ve got so many films in the summer that this is the perfect answer to that.”

The studio’s remaining films set for release this summer include ‘The Taking of Pelham 123’ starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta, ‘The Year One’ starring Jack Black and Michael Cera, ‘Julie and Julia’ starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, ‘District 9’, and ‘Mardi Gras’.

‘2012’, originally scheduled to open against the Christopher Columbus comedy, ‘I Love You, Beth Cooper’. Â  It will now contend with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law in ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and Dwayne Johnson in ‘The Tooth Fairy’.

Sony execs said ‘2012’ could have been completed by its summer date, though the new date will add some extra time for the effects-laden production.

What do you think? Â  Is this a good move for Sony? Â  Is it really important for them to have a big, November release? Â  How well do you think ‘2012’ will do against ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and ‘The Tooth Fairy’? Â  Let us know by commenting below!

Roland Emmerich’s ‘2012’ Gets a Teaser

Are aliens going to land?   Is a meteor gonna hit the earth?   Is McDonald’s gonna bring back the McHero?   These are the questions people have been asking pertaining to the year 2012.   That’s the year the Mayana calendar ends, so there’s gotta be some cataclysmic event scheduled, right?

Roland Emmerich seems to think so.   So much, in fact, that he’s made, yet another, film about events that have global repercussions.   ‘2012’ stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, and Oliver Platt as survivors wh must band together in order to save mankind.

Moviefone unveiled the teaser for ‘2012’ slated for a July 10th, 2009 release.

Roland Emmerich plans disaster in ‘2012’

Producer and writer/director Roland Emmerich is well-known for his epic, big-budget films that always make an impact, whether or not the impact is positive or not. With films like Universal Soldier, Stargate, Independence Day and The Patriot all bringing him fair-to good reviews and some hefty box office receipts, Emmerich has also directed some lesser acclaimed films like Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow and 10,000 BC.

Next up, 2012, a sort of inter-dimensional quasi-futuristic end of the world disaster movie whereas a scientist opens a portal to a parallel universe and meets himself. [Um, wouldn’t this cause a rift in the space-time continuum?] The two versions of himself work together to prevent some apocalyptic event that has been predicted by the ancient Mayans.

Regardless of any reservations you may have about the story, or its minor resemblances to other movies, the film has actually landed some pretty impressive talent that promises to at least offer decent performances. The current cast includes John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton and Oliver Platt. 2012 will be written, directed and produced by Roland Emmerich.
