Ralph And Vanellope Meet Disney Princesses And Stormtroopers In New Trailer For RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET: WRECK-IT RALPH 2

Here’s a first look at the new trailer and poster for RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET: WRECK-IT RALPH 2.

RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET: WRECK-IT RALPH 2 leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet—which may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) must risk it all by traveling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, Sugar Rush. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet—the netizens—to help navigate their way, including a webite entrepreneur named Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making site “BuzzzTube.”

When WRECK-IT RALPH opened on Nov. 2, 2012, it turned in the highest opening weekend ever for a Walt Disney Animation Studios film at the time of release. WRECK-IT RALPH won the PGA Award for outstanding producer of an animated theatrical motion picture as well as five Annie Awards, including best animated feature, director, screenplay and actor. 4th Annual MLFF: LOVE, GILDA – The Review

One of my favorite films at the Mammoth Lakes Film Festival was LOVE, GILDA. Not only did it do an amazing job at capturing her spirit, but it is incredibly relatable… especially if you (like me) have ever fought an intense disease or illness.

In her own words, comedienne Gilda Radner looks back and reflects on her life and career. Weaving together recently discovered audiotapes, interviews with her friends, rare home movies and diaries read by modern-day comediennes inspired by Gilda (Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short, Bill Hader and Cecily Strong), Love, Gilda offers a unique window into the honest and whimsical world of a beloved performer whose greatest role was sharing her story.

Produced and Directed by Lisa D’Apolito, LOVE, GILDA leaves viewers with an incredibly positive way to look at life… with laughter. Reading from her own words, Poehler, Rudolph, Hader, Strong and more learn more about one of their biggest inspirations. We learn about Radner’s feelings about herself, her weight, her rise to fame, romances and her battle with cancer through her own tapes.

It starts in the 1950’s, with home movies of a young Radner and her family. She describes her relationship with her father and mother, and the impacts that they had on her. She is quite candid, talking about the death of her father, and her mothers’ thoughts on her weight – including the time she gave Radner diet pills.

It’s apparent, instantly, in the home videos that Radner has an energy that is larger than life. We learn about her relationship with food due to an eating disorder and watch as she seamlessly rises to fame due to her electric personality and impeccable sense of humor.  During this time she also went through a lot of boyfriends, including those that she worked with. The good news is that all of them seemed to remain friends, judging by the tone of the doc.

Behind all of the fame lived someone who was unhappy. Radner was her own worst critic. She was constantly looking for love and acceptance. She later found a life full of love with actor Gene Wilder. The film touches on her yearning to have a child, which was hindered by suddenly learning that she had ovarian cancer.

One thing that I love about this film is Radners’ positive spirit as she fought this disease. Throughout her battle, she constantly tried to make people laugh. Her goal was to make cancer funny. Normally, a diagnosis like this would be enough to destroy someone’s spirit. Nor Radner. She was more worried about others, and living life to the fullest. During her struggle, Wilder was by her side. Their love for each other is inspiring.

Throughout the film, Radners’ courage and positive attitude shine through even the darkest of moments. LOVE, GILDA is sure to make audiences laugh and cry.

OVERALL RATING: 5 out of 5

But a surprise early arrival has disastrous consequences, and Becks abruptly heads back across the country to St. Louis, where she moves in with her disapproving mother (Christine Lahti). As Becks navigates her hometown, playing for tip money in an old friend’s bar, an unexpected relationship with Elyse (Mena Suvari), the wife an old nemesis, begins to take shape. Co-directors Elizabeth Rohrbaugh and Daniel Powell — both former St. Louisans — make their narrative-feature debut with BECKS, which won the New Filmmakers Forum competition at last year’s SLIFF and the U.S. Fiction Award at the LA Film Festival. A quasi-musical, “Becks” features original songs by singer/songwriter Alyssa Robbins and instrumental-score composer Steve Salett.

The Strange Brew Film Series Has Moved! MALLRATS Wednesday Night at Urban Chestnut

“Hell hath no fury like a woman’s scorn for Sega.”

Webster University’s Award-Winning Strange Brew Film Series has moved! The new location is Urban Chestnut in the Grove (4465 Manchester Avenue, St. Louis 63110). The kickoff film for the new locale is Kevin Smith’s 1995 comedy MALLRATS. It’s this Wednesday, June 6th. The movie starts at 8pm and admission is $5.

Shift the central idea of Clerks from a convenience store to a shopping mall. Trade a pair of slacker salesmen for two newly dumped layabouts. Bring in Jay and Silent Bob for some new hijinks. Add an ill-conceived game show, a puffed-up security chief and a topless prognosticator of fortunes, and you have MALLRATS (1995).

MALLRATS was widely panned upon its initial release, but the years have been good to the film and it has developed into the type of cult classic perfect for Strange Brew.

Smith demonstrated once again his mastery of sharp-witted dialogue and his ability to draw fully realized characters you’d love to meet despite — or perhaps because of — their many flaws. The best of the lot is Jason Lee, a Smith movie staple, as Brodie. He’s obsessed with comic books and Sega games, and his fixations cost him his long-suffering girlfriend Rene (Shannen Doherty). Brodie’s best friend is T.S. (Jeremy London), who also loses his girlfriend Brandi (Claire Forlani) after another in a long stream of arguments. The quartet of dumpers and dumpees all end up at the mall, where paths inevitably cross. They also interact with various friends and foes: the supportive gal pal Gwen (Joey Lauren Adams), the sexually precocious Tricia (Renee Humphrey), the shark-like suitor Shannon (Ben Affleck) and, of course, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith). For a comic book fan, MALLRATS is an awfully funny experience. Did I mention the Stan Lee cameo!?! Don’t miss it Wednesday night at Urban Chestnut!

A Facebook invite for the screening can be found HERE
The movie starts at 8pm and admission is $5. There will be food to order and plenty of pints of Urban Chestnut’s famous home-brewed beer.
