VOX LUX, A 20th Century Portrait, begins in 1999 when teenage Celeste (Raffey Cassidy) survives a violent tragedy. After singing at a memorial service, Celeste transforms into a burgeoning pop star with the help of her songwriter sister (Stacy Martin) and talent manager (Jude Law). Celeste’s meteoric rise to fame dovetails with a personal and national loss of innocence, consequently elevating the young powerhouse to a new kind of celebrity: American icon, secular deity, global superstar.

By 2017, adult Celeste (Natalie Portman) is mounting a comeback after a scandalous incident almost derailed her career. Touring in support of her sixth album, a compendium of sci-fi anthems entitled, “Vox Lux,” the indomitable, foul-mouthed pop savior must overcome her personal and familial struggles to navigate motherhood, madness and monolithic fame.

Robert the Bruce’s (Chris Pine) life is transformed from defeated noble to king to outlaw as he struggles to reclaim medieval Scotland from occupation. Ambushed and reduced to a handful of supporters, Robert
resolves himself to strike back against King Edward of England’s mighty army. Robert is among the Scottish nobles having to submit to the occupying English King, Edward (STEPHEN DILLANE). In a further move to ensure stability a marriage between Robert and Elizabeth de Burgh, (FLORENCE PUGH) the daughter of Edward’s ally, is arranged.

An uncomfortable peace is it seems the only way forward which Robert and his family reluctantly accept as he and the feisty Elizabeth get to know each other. But crippling taxes, relentless force, men and boys
being coerced under obligations of the feudal system to fight for King Edward feed rising rebellious emotions amongst the Scots. Key events trigger change: the death of the family patriarch Bruce Senior

7 Things You Should Love About VENOM

The movie VENOM has been getting a lot of hate, despite its respectable numbers at the box office. (Global numbers to date are $461.2M)

One of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters takes center stage as Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) becomes the host for the alien symbiote Venom. As a journalist, Eddie has been trying to take down the notorious founder of the Life Foundation, genius Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed) – and that obsession ruined his career and his relationship with his girlfriend, Anne Weying (Michelle Williams). Upon investigating one of Drake’s experiments, the alien Venom merges with Eddie’s body, and he suddenly has incredible new superpowers, as well as the chance to do just about whatever he wants. Twisted, dark, unpredictable, and fueled by rage, Venom leaves Eddie wrestling to control dangerous abilities that he also finds empowering and intoxicating. As Eddie and Venom need each other to get what they’re looking for, they become more and more intertwined — where does Eddie end and Venom begin?

Marvel Comics Fundamentalists say it strays too far from the original material, or just generally hate that it’s still being held captive outside of the mainstream MCU. My personal take is that Venom as a character wouldn’t function as a hero in the MCU (can you imagine Cap condoning the casual murder and cannibalism of anyone, even bad guys?).

So here is a list of 7 things that you should love about the Character and director Ruben Fleischer’s VENOM.

1. It has a good sense of humor about itself.  The symbiote even admitting that what it and Eddie Brock have in common is that they are both losers.


2. It crammed in a LOT of Venom’s past in a short time, without leaving the non-comic book fan too confused.

3. Interesting use of the characters powers…without adding powers that never existed in the comics.

4. Exploring how having two beings sharing a rather fluid new physical form might fight for dominance.

5. Eddie Brock was a self-righteous jerk, and the Symbiote was just here to help take over. Both grew beyond their original template.

6. Tom Hardy was mostly coherent, occasionally even enunciating. Perhaps an alien bonding was all he really needed.

7. An absolutely ruthless disposal of extras. The aliens ate you from the inside out if they didn’t bond. How delicious.

Here’s a first look at the brand new trailer and poster for the upcoming film BIRD BOX, a compelling new thriller from Academy Award winner Susanne Bier.

When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life. Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary. But to survive, they’ll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded.

The Netflix movie stars Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar, Danielle Macdonald, Lil Rel Howery, Tom Hollander, Colson Baker, BD Wong, with Sarah Paulson, and John Malkovich.

The cast alone is enough to be excited for this film! Prepare yourself for a rough and dark time.

“You hear that? The creatures.” A child whispering those words will send chills down every parent’s spine.

Earlier this year, Paramount Pictures released A QUIET PLACE. “In the modern horror thriller, from director John Krasinski, a family of four must navigate their lives in silence after mysterious creatures that hunt by sound threaten their survival. If they hear you, they hunt you.” (Review). A running and inherent theme throughout both films are family, love and ultimately sacrifice.

BIRD BOX is from screenwriter Eric Heisserer. His screenplay for the film ARRIVAL earned him a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination at the 89th Academy Awards in 2016. He also wrote the horror films A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, FINAL DESTINATION 5, THE THING (2011) and LIGHTS OUT, and wrote and directed Hours with Paul Walker.

BIRD BOX will have its world premiere at The AFI Festival on November 12, 2018.

Tika Sumpter, Whoopi Goldberg And Tiffany Haddish Star In Red-Band Trailer For Tyler Perry’s NOBODY’S FOOL

Trying to get back on her feet, wild child Tanya (Tiffany Haddish) looks to her buttoned-up, by the book sister Danica (Tika Sumpter) to help her get back on track. As these polar opposites collide — with hilarious and sometimes disastrous results — Tanya discovers that Danica’s picture-perfect life — including her mysterious boyfriend — may not be what it seems.

In 2016, Perry reprised the role of “Madea” in Lionsgate’s smash-hit BOO! A MADEA HALLOWEEN, which spent two weeks at number one on the US box office. The sequel to the film was released in October 2017 and took top spot at the box office on opening weekend. Perry has two more films with Lionsgate in 2018 – ACRIMONY starring Taraji P. Henson and A MADEA FAMILY FUNERAL, which will bring his popular character back to the big screen. Perry also recently completed production on Adam McKay’s feature film, VICE, about Dick Cheney, in which he will play “Colin Powell.”
