“Experience the Third Dimension” In New GRAVITY Featurette

GRAVITY 3D

Learn about director Alfonso Cuarón’s unique approach to 3D in this new featurette for GRAVITY. The film was co-written by Alfonso Cuarón and his son, Jonás, marking their first official collaboration.

GRAVITY opens in US theaters this Friday – prepare to go inside the astronaut’s suits and for one thrilling ride!

The intentional demolition of an obsolete satellite sends sharp fragments hurtling into space, setting off a chain reaction that puts the fast-growing debris field on a collision course with the Space Shuttle “Explorer”. The inescapable impact is catastrophic, destroying the shuttle and leaving Mission Specialist Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and Mission Commander Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) as the lone survivors. All communication with Mission Control has been lost…and, with it, any chance of rescue. Adrift in the void, the two must find a way to see past their own limitations and escape their inertia if they are ever going to get back to Earth.

GRAVITY had been envisioned from the beginning as a 3D cinematic experience. Jonás Cuarón says, “The concept was always to do this movie in 3D because we wanted people to be truly immersed in the imagery as well as the narrative.”

That said, Alfonso Cuarón emphasizes, “We didn’t want it to be 3D for the sake of things flying in your face. We tried to be subtle…to let you feel like you’re inside the journey.”

An Eerie Trailer Lands For The Supernatural Thriller SKINWALKER RANCH – In Theaters and VOD October 30

SkinwalkerRanch_Theatrical Poster

Here’s the trailer for the upcoming supernatural thriller, SKINWALKER RANCH, directed by Devin McGinn and starring Jon Gries (TAKEN, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE), Kyle Davis (FRIDAY THE 13TH-2009, THE HITCHER), Steve Berg (GENTLEMEN BRONCOS, YEAR OF THE DOG, Erin Cahill (ABC’s Red Widow), and Matthew Rocheleau (CBS’s How I Met Your Mother), which opens in theaters across the country and on VOD October 30th.

McGinn stars in the film, which he also produced alongside Murphy Michaels and executive producer and Deep Studios founder Ken Bretschneider, and it was written by Adam Ohler.

SPOOKY! And just in time for Halloween.

The film is inspired by true-events and unexplainable phenomena surrounding SKINWALKER RANCH (www.skinwalkerranch.org) in NE Utah, which was shown a few years ago on Jesse Ventura’s ‘Conspiracy Theory’ and most recently ‘Joe Rogan Questions Everything’ on SyFy.

In 2010 “Skinwalker Ranch” gained media attention after experiencing a wide range of unexplained phenomena.  Reports ranged from UFO sightings to livestock mutilation, but maybe most notable was the disappearance of ranch owner Hoyt Miller’s eight year old son, Cody on November 11, 2010.  Close to a year later, Modern Defense Enterprises (MDE) has sent a team of experts to document and investigates the mysterious occurrences, which only escalate upon their arrival.

The incidents continue to escalate and become more violent, causing tensions to rise as the team must decide how far they will go to unlock the mysteries of “Skinwalker Ranch.”  The group debates whether the answers are worth risking their lives for, or if they should just call off the investigation and leave the ranch – that is, if leaving is actually an option…

The unprecedented gathering of talent who turned up on stage and behind the scenes of the concert helped to raise over $50 million in one night for the Robin Hood Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. Likewise, all box office profits from the documentary’s theatrical run will go to the Robin Hood Sandy Relief Fund which supports organizations helping victims in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. 12-12-12 was produced by Amir Bar-Lev, Charlie Lightening and Meghan O’Hara. The music and entertainment communities came together in such an immediate and powerful way, and made a legitimate difference to those in the tri-state who were so severely impacted by the storm. The concert was historic, it might even go down as one of the greatest line ups of all time, but if you thought the concert was wild, wait until you see what happened backstage that night. This film takes you behind the walls of Madison Square Garden and into the production areas and dressing rooms of the biggest recording artists in the world to see firsthand how a massive event like 12-12-12 was created.  We’re thrilled audiences will be able to relive this historic event on the big screen.”

“Robin Hood is honored to have been involved with the 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief,” said David Saltzman, Executive Director of Robin Hood. “Thanks to the amazing generosity of the producers, the artists and more than 290,000 caring viewers from around the world, Robin Hood was able to make grants to 390 organizations in the tri-state area that are helping victims of the storm to rebuild and recover.”

Spend the Night with Norman Bates Midnights at the Tivoli – PSYCHO

psycho-560i

What a weekend for St. Louis-area horror fans! NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is screening midnights at the Hi-Pointe (and at Webster U Sunday night), the living dead doc BIRTH OF THE LIVING DEAD is playing Saturday night at Webster U with NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD screenwriter John Russo in attendance, and if that isn’t enough big-screen classic horror madness, Alfred Hitchcock’s PSYCHO (1960) is this week’s midnight show at the Reel Late at the Tivoli series.

psycho_12_dvd

Nowadays, when any psychological thriller featuring a loony with a knife is designated “Hitchcockian” in some quarters, it’s easy to forget just what a dramatic change of pace this was for Hitchcock. Inspired by the life of the demented, cannibalistic Wisconsin killer Ed Gein (whose gruesome acts would also inspire THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE and DERANGED), PSYCHO’s importance to the horror genre cannot be overestimated. PSYCHO has it all: romance, embezzlement, disappearance, secrets, voyeurism, a dead corpse, a split personality of a man who thinks from time to time he’s his dead mother, and of course Janet Leigh hacked to death in the shower. None of Hitchcock’s films had as profound an impact upon the American psyche as PSYCHO. When it was initially released in 1960, it was a huge box office hit (there are stories of 3-mile long lines at drive-in entrances), and its popularity has not waned over the last five decades.

psycho_frame_c

If you’ve never experienced PSYCHO on the big screen, you’ll have your chance this weekend when it plays midnights at the Tivoli October 4th and 5th. I said this two weeks ago when BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S was the midnight choice: I hope it gets a good crowd, though these type of classics have hardly been packing them in (and TIFFANY’S didn’t either). MEAN GIRLS and SPICE WORLD have played midnights recently to large crowds, and SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD was a hit last weekend, but not CASABLANCA or VERTIGO. I know the Tivoli late-night crowd is an 18-25 demographic but they’re the ones who really need to see PSYCHO in all its big screen glory, so if you’re the parents of St. Louis teens, encourage them to take in Hitchcock’s masterpiece this weekend!

The Tivoli’s located at 6350 Delmar Blvd., University City, MO. Admission is a mere $8!

The Tivoli’s website can be found HERE

THE BIRTH OF THE LIVING DEAD
(Rob Kuhns, 2013, USA, 76 min.)
In 1968 a young college drop-out named George A. Romero directed Night of the Living Dead, a low budget horror film that shocked the world, became an icon of the counterculture, and spawned a zombie industry worth billions of dollars that continues to this day. The film shows how Romero gathered the Pittsburgh, PA community to shoot “Night” in a guerrilla, run-and-gun style. Romero and his team created a horribly chilling monster – one that was undead and feasted upon human flesh. Archival footage of the horrors of Vietnam and racial violence at home combined with iconic music from the 60s invites viewers to experience how Romero’s tumultuous film reflected this period in American history.

John Russo (co-writer “Night of the Living Dead”) will lead a discussion follow the screening.

Outside are hordes of relentless, shambling undead that can only be killed by a blow to the head.

ZOMBIE
(Lucio Fulci, 1979, Italy, 91 min.)
Two guards investigate an abandon sailboat, the Antilles, when attacked by a zombie. Anne Bowles (Tisa Farrow), The daughter of the ships owner, searches for information about her missing father. She meets Peter West (Ian McCulloch), a journalist, and they travel to Matul Island to search for answers. They cross paths with Dr. David Menard (Richard Johnson), who conducts to find a cure to a disease and brings the dead back to life, turning them into zombies that eat human flesh. Adding invaluably to the film’s bleak atmosphere is Goblin’s creepy synthesized score. ZOMBIE used to play at the Drive-Ins constantly in the early 80’s and 30 years later holds up as one of the best zombie movies of all.
