Performer/producer/visual artist and composer Johnny Jewel scores Warner Bros.’ thriller LOST RIVER, opening in theaters April 10, 2015.
Directed and written by Ryan Gosling, LOST RIVER is a dark fairy tale about love, family and the fight for survival in the face of danger starring Christina Hendricks, Eva Mendes, and Ben Mendelsohn. The multi-talented Jewel provides a grainy analog synth score that is both emotive and haunting, setting the tone for film’s dreamlike setting.
The LOST RIVER soundtrack is available March 30th, 2015 on Jewel’s Italians Do It Better record label and will feature original tracks from the Chromatics, Desire, and Glass Candy.
In the virtually abandoned city of Lost River, a single mother of two (Hendricks) is led into a macabre underworld in her quest to save her childhood home and hold her family together.
Gosling had approached Johnny Jewel to score his directorial debut “Lost River” while it was still in the concept stage, convincing Jewel to do it after he completed the script.
“When Ryan e-mailed me the script my immediate feeling was that the whole film should be sonically immersed in metal and water. I started sending Ryan music in February of 2013 for his early trips to scout locations. Ryan and I live seven minutes away from one another, so we’d watch the film at his house at night, and then we’d drive over to my house and experiment with musical ideas in my studio,” said Jewel.
Gosling and Johnny Jewel met during Nicolas Winding Refn’s DRIVE, for which Jewel contributed additional music including his band Desire’s song “Under Your Spell.”
Jewel had previously scored Winding Refn’s film BRONSON starring Tom Hardy. Johnny Jewel is best known as known as a musical artist and producer behind the bands Chromatics, Desire, and Glass Candy. Jewel is also the president of the independent record label Italians Do It Better.

Fox Searchlight Pictures Presidents Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula announced today that the company has acquired worldwide rights less France and other French-speaking territories to the documentary HE NAMED ME MALALA, directed by Academy Award-winner Davis Guggenheim. Studiocanal will distribute the film in France.
HE NAMED ME MALALA is scheduled to be released in 2015.
The documentary, produced by Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald under their long-term production partnership with Image Nation Abu Dhabi and co-financed by Participant Media, is an intimate portrait of Malala Yousafzai, who was wounded when Taliban gunmen opened fire on her and her friends’ school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley.
The then 15-year-old teenager, who had been targeted for speaking out on behalf of girls’ education in her region of Swat Valley in Pakistan, was shot in the head, sparking international media outrage. An educational activist in Pakistan, Yousafzai has since emerged as a leading campaigner for the rights of children worldwide and in December 2014, became the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.
“Malala’s incredible journey is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Her bravery in the face of adversity brought us to tears. The chance to bring her story to a global audience will be an honor for all of us here at Searchlight,” said Gilula and Utley.
“Spending the last 18 months with Malala, her father Ziauddin and their family has been one of the great experiences of my life. Now that Fox Searchlight is joining Image Nation and Participant Media, we have the opportunity to share their moving story with the world,” said Guggenheim.
“This project has been an incredible journey and we’re now pleased to be joined by Fox Searchlight Pictures, whose expertise will help ensure the film reaches as many people as possible with its inspiring message,” said Mohamed Al Mubarak, Chairman of Image Nation Abu Dhabi.

On April 11, the country will give back as it celebrates National Security Guard Day with its most public face, the mall cop, Paul Blart.
The new comedy PAUL BLART: MALL COP 2 arrives in theaters the following Friday, April 17.
On National Security Guard Day, in New York City, security guards will participate in the celebration, beginning in the morning, as they join other New Yorkers in attempting to set two GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ titles on Segways.
Following the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS official attempts, the security guards will join Kevin James and other film talent at the New York City premiere of PAUL BLART: MALL COP 2.
As James rolls the red carpet on a Segway, uniformed guards will join him, also on Segways, lining the red carpet with their families, and attending the premiere screening of the film.
