First MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS Trailer, Starring Saoirse Ronan And Margot Robbie, Packs A Powerful Punch

Check out the first trailer for MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS, starring Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie. The film is directed by Josie Rourke (artistic director of The Donmar Warehouse).

MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart (Ronan). Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth I (Robbie). Each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence.

Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.

Wow, this looks beautiful. The attention to detail in the costuming (Alexandra Byrne) and Hair & Makeup is impeccable and should see Oscar nominations. It’ll likely garner ones for cinematography (John Mathieson), among below the line Academy Awards nods, such as score (Max Richter) and art direction.

It being a biopic, which I’m sure historians will find some errors in the facts, and based on the lives of the two monarchs, the film could also see some love from the guilds as well as nominations in the bigger categories such as screenplay, director, picture and particularly acting. Expect to see Ronan and Robbie on the red carpet, and frequently, for the upcoming awards shows. Smart move by Focus Features and Working Title to roll out the film in limited release for an awards season run on December 7, 2018. The DVD screeners will be in the hands of voters for the holiday season.

Focus Features  and Working Title do these type of historical films so well. Look at DARKEST HOUR with Gary Oldman in 2017. He went on to win Best Actor for portraying Winston Churchill. The studios will undoubtedly launch a HUGE Oscar campaign again. But both actresses could go lead – they’ll have to decide who will be supporting, which I suspect will be Robbie.

MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS also stars Jack Lowden, Joe Alwyn, Gemma Chan, Martin Compston, Ismael Cordova, Brendan Coyle, Ian Hart, Adrian Lester, James McArdle, with David Tennant, and Guy Pearce. The screenplay is from Beau Willimon (“The Ides of March,” “House of Cards”), based on Queen of Scots: The True Life of Mary Stuart by John Guy.

Here’s a look at the first poster and trailer for THE LEGO® MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART, the much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed, global box office phenomenon that started it all.

THE LEGO® MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.

Reprising their fan-favorite characters from “The LEGO Movie” are Chris Pratt as Emmet, Elizabeth Banks as Lucy (aka Wyldstyle), Will Arnett as LEGO BatmanTM, Nick Offerman as Metal Beard, and Alison Brie as Unikitty. They are joined by Tiffany Haddish, Stephanie Beatriz, and Arturo Castro as, respectively, new characters Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi, Sweet Mayhem and Ice Cream Cone. Mike Mitchell, of “Shrek Forever After,” “Trolls” and “Sky High” will direct.

Coming pieces, THE LEGO® MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART opens in 2D and 3D beginning February 8, 2019.

The film is being produced by Dan Lin, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Roy Lee, the team behind the LEGO film franchise since “The LEGO Movie” debuted in 2014.

 

First WHITE BOY RICK Trailer and Poster Feature Richie Merritt And Matthew McConaughey

Richie Merritt and Matthew McConaughey star as Richard Wershe Jr. and Richard Wershe Sr. in Columbia Pictures’ and Studio 8’s WHITE BOY RICK.

Set in 1980s Detroit at the height of the crack epidemic and the War on Drugs, WHITE BOY RICK is based on the moving true story of a blue-collar father and his teenage son, Rick Wershe Jr., who became an undercover police informant and later a drug dealer, before he was abandoned by his handlers and sentenced to life in prison.

Here’s a first look at the new trailer and poster for RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET: WRECK-IT RALPH 2.

RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET: WRECK-IT RALPH 2 leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet—which may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) must risk it all by traveling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, Sugar Rush. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet—the netizens—to help navigate their way, including a webite entrepreneur named Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making site “BuzzzTube.”

When WRECK-IT RALPH opened on Nov. 2, 2012, it turned in the highest opening weekend ever for a Walt Disney Animation Studios film at the time of release. WRECK-IT RALPH won the PGA Award for outstanding producer of an animated theatrical motion picture as well as five Annie Awards, including best animated feature, director, screenplay and actor. The film was named best animated feature by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, earned outstanding achievement in casting for an animated feature by the Casting Society of America, and won the Kids’ Choice Award for favorite animated movie. The film was also nominated for an Oscar® and Golden Globe® for best animated feature.

Intense First Trailer Arrives For Steve McQueen’s WIDOWS Starring Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez And Carrie Coon

Regency Enterprises and 20th Century Fox have released the trailer for WIDOWS, a modern-day thriller set against the backdrop of crime, passion and corruption from Academy Award-winning director Steve McQueen and co-writer and bestselling author of Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn.

WIDOWS is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities. Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton And Chloë Grace Moretz Star In Brand New SUSPIRIA Trailer

Watch the teaser trailer for SUSPIRIA, with a score composed by legendary singer/songwriter Thom Yorke (Radiohead).

Directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by David Kajganich, SUSPIRIA stars Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth, Lutz Ebersdorf, Jessica Harper and Chloë Grace Moretz.

A darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the troupe’s artistic director (Swinton), an ambitious young dancer (Johnson), and a grieving psychotherapist (Ebersdorf). Some will succumb to the nightmare. Others will finally wake up.

The 1977 version was nominated for two Saturn Awards: Best Supporting Actress for Bennett in 1978, and Best DVD Classic Film Release in 2002. It has become a cult classic, and is recognized as an influential film in the horror genre.  The Italian supernatural horror film was directed by Dario Argento, co-written by Argento and Daria Nicolodi, and was partially based on Thomas De Quincey’s 1845 essay Suspiria de Profundis (Sighs from the Depths)..

Watch The Trailer For THE SISTERS BROTHERS Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Reilly And Jake Gyllenhaal

Opening in theaters Fall 2018 is Annapurna Pictures’ THE SISTERS BROTHERS. The film, written and directed by Jacques Audiard, stars Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Reilly, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Riz Ahmed.

Based on Patrick Dewitt’s acclaimed novel of the same name, follows two brothers – Eli and Charlie Sisters – who are hired to kill a prospector who has stolen from their boss. The story, a genre-hybrid with comedic elements, takes place in Oregon in 1851.

The film is Jacques Audiard’s follow-up to his Palme D’Or Winning DHEEPAN, which premiered at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

Watch The New Trailer For Paul Dano’s WILDLIFE Starring Carey Mulligan And Jake Gyllenhaal

IFC Films has released the teaser trailer for Paul Dano’s WILDLIFE starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Carey Mulligan, Bill Camp, Ex Oxenbould & Zoe Margaret Colletti.

The film had it’s world premiere at the SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL 2018 and recently at the
CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2018 – OPENING NIGHT CRITICS’ WEEK.

In their Sundance review, Indiewire praised Dano’s first film and wrote it is, “a tender, gorgeous, and exquisitely understated drama about a family that loses its faith in itself.”

14-year-old Joe is the only child of Jeanette and Jerry—a housewife and a golf pro—in a small town in 1960s Montana. Nearby, an uncontrolled forest fire rages close to the Canadian border, and when Jerry loses his job—and his sense of purpose—he decides to join the cause of fighting the fire, leaving his wife and son to fend for themselves. Suddenly forced into the role of an adult, Joe witnesses his mother’s struggle as she tries to keep her head above water.

Actor Paul Dano makes an impressive debut as a filmmaker and—along with co-writer Zoe Kazan—elegantly adapts Richard Ford’s novel of the same name. Carey Mulligan delivers one of her finest performances as a complex woman whose self-determination and self-involvement disrupts the values and expectations of the 1960s nuclear family. With precise details and textures of its specific time and place, WILDLIFE commits to the viewpoint of a teenage boy observing the gradual dissolution of his parents’ marriage.

Dano said of his film, “WILDLIFE is about a kid seeing his parents change and their marriage break – and through his parents’ failures, having to grow up. It is a coming of age story for all three: mother, father, and son. While it is about struggle and heartbreak and disillusionment, it is a film guided by love. Now that it is time for me to share this film, I can see that – like our protagonist Joe – I made a family portrait as a means of acceptance, and of letting go.”

WILDLIFE opens in theaters October 19th.

Robert Pattinson, Mia Wasikowska Star In New Trailer For DAMSEL

Samuel Alabaster (Robert Pattinson), an affluent pioneer, ventures across the American Frontier to marry the love of his life, Penelope (Mia Wasikowska). As Samuel traverses the Wild West with a drunkard named Parson Henry (David Zellner) and a miniature horse called Butterscotch, their once-simple journey grows treacherous, blurring the lines between hero, villain and damsel.

A loving reinvention of the western genre from the Zellner brothers (Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter), DAMSEL showcases their trademark unpredictability, off-kilter sense of humor, and unique brand of humanism.
