New Breathtaking Trailers & Posters For THE GREAT GATSBY Arrive

From the uniquely imaginative mind of writer/producer/director Baz Luhrmann come the brand new trailers for THE GREAT GATSBY. The filmmaker created his own distinctive visual interpretation of the classic story, bringing the period to life in a way that has never been seen before, in a film starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role. While I love the Robert Redford/Mia Farrow 1974 version, I’m eager to see what Luhrmann does with the latest big screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel.

THE GREAT GATSBY follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks.  Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan.  It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits.  As Nick bears witness, within and without of the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

Academy Award® nominee DiCaprio (“J. Edgar,” “Aviator”) plays Jay Gatsby, with Tobey Maguire starring as Nick Carraway; Oscar® nominee Carey Mulligan (“An Education”) and Joel Edgerton as Daisy and Tom Buchanan; Isla Fisher and Jason Clarke as Myrtle and George Wilson; and newcomer Elizabeth Debicki as Jordan Baker.  Indian film legend Amitabh Bachchan will play the role of Meyer Wolfsheim.

Oscar® nominee Luhrmann (“Moulin Rouge!”) directs the film in 3D from a screenplay co-written with frequent collaborator Craig Pearce, based on Fitzgerald’s book.  Luhrmann produces, along with Catherine Martin, Academy Award® winner Doug Wick (“Gladiator”), Lucy Fisher and Catherine Knapman.  The executive producers are Academy Award® winner Barrie M. Osborne (“Lord of the Rings – Return of the King”) and Bruce Berman.

Two-time Academy Award®-winning production and costume designer Catherine Martin (“Moulin Rouge!”) designs as well as produces.  The editors are Matt Villa, Jason Ballantine and Jonathan Redmond, and the director of photography is Simon Duggan.  The music is by Craig Armstrong.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, in association with A&E Television, a Bazmark/Red Wagon Entertainment Production, a Film by Baz Luhrmann, THE GREAT GATSBY. Opening May 10 2013, the film will be distributed in 3D and 2D by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

Disney/Pixar BRAVE New Posters – In theaters June 22nd, 2012

With a courageous and impetuous heroine leading the way, Disney·Pixar sets out on yet another extraordinary journey – this time across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland in BRAVE. The big-screen adventure is the 13th feature-length animated film from Pixar Animation Studios. Check out the four new banners below.

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In BRAVE, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts.

“BRAVE is an epic adventure chock-full of action, humor and heart,” says director Mark Andrews. “There’s no more perfect setting for this powerful tale than the dark and rugged Scottish Highlands. Imagine: magic, mystery and danger – all set within a haunting and beautiful landscape. It’s like nothing you’ve seen before from Pixar.”

Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.

Director Mark Andrews served as story supervisor for the Disney•Pixar films “Ratatouille” and “The Incredibles,” and was Oscar®-nominated as the co-writer/co-director of the Pixar short “One Man Band.”  He also contributed to the screenplay as co-writer and served as second unit director for the 2012 Walt Disney Studios film “John Carter.” Director Brenda Chapman directed DreamWorks Animation’s “The Prince of Egypt” and was story supervisor for the Disney classic “The Lion King.” Producer Katherine Sarafian produced the Pixar short film “Lifted” and served as production manager for “The Incredibles.”

In a land of tradition, a hero will rise in Disney Pixar’s BRAVE, in theatres on June 22, 2012.

In front of the LIVE premiere from London, Warner Bros. has released 4 new banners to celebrate the release of the last chapter of the film.

At the end of their decade-long journey, the cast and filmmakers all share a sense of gratitude and pride as they bring the historic film series to a close.

David Barron recalls, “I thought I was prepared because we knew the day was coming for so long, but it was surprisingly moving for all of us. Everybody put so much of themselves into these movies, and on this one we all shared the added goal of making it a fitting finale to the series.”

“Part of one’s job is to say goodbye,” Alan Rickman says. “There comes that time when it is right and proper to let it go; otherwise you can’t move on. And so the best thing one can say is that it all ended the right way.”

Rupert Grint offers, “The Harry Potter experience was an amazing time of my life, and something I’ll never forget. I’m so proud to have been a part of it.”

“How do I put into words what all of this has meant to me?” Emma Watson muses. “I don’t consider it over because it will always be a part of who I am, and I feel so blessed to have shared in it.”

Daniel Radcliffe reflects, “I know I’ll never see a frame of these films that I don’t connect immediately to a memory of a place or a time or a person. Even now I can’t fully express how important it’s been to me, but I can say it was a great time and it’s something I will never be able to recreate.”

David Yates agrees. “It’s really hard to contextualize it, except to say it’s been enormous fun—intense and very challenging at times, but never not fun. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world and I’m proud and happy to have seen it through to the end.”

“This was a wonderful collaboration,” J.K. Rowling shares. “I was proud to work and form lasting friendships with some immensely talented people. So the overall experience of the films for me has been truly outstanding.”

“I count myself extremely fortunate to have been part of Harry Potter, but none of us would have had this opportunity were it not for Jo Rowling and the world she so brilliantly created,” David Heyman concludes. “One of the things I love about the books is that the stories are timeless…and hopefully we’ve achieved that with the movies.”

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, reprising their roles as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The film’s ensemble cast also includes Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Tom Felton, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Ciarán Hinds, John Hurt, Jason Isaacs, Matthew Lewis, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, David Thewlis, Julie Walters and Bonnie Wright.

The film was directed by David Yates, who also helmed the blockbusters “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.” David Heyman, the producer of all of the Harry Potter films, produced the final film, together with David Barron and J.K. Rowling. Screenwriter Steve Kloves adapted the screenplay, based on the book by J.K. Rowling. Lionel Wigram is the executive producer.

Behind the scenes, the creative team included director of photography Eduardo Serra, production designer Stuart Craig, editor Mark Day, visual effects supervisor Tim Burke, special effects supervisor John Richardson, and costume designer Jany Temime. The music is composed by Alexandre Desplat.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Heyday Films Production, a David Yates Film, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2,” which marks the last installment in the most successful film franchise of all time.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” is the first Harry Potter film to be released in both 3D and 2D. Concurrently with its nationwide theatrical distribution, the film will be released in select IMAX® theatres. The film has been digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® through proprietary IMAX DMR® technology.

The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. It has been rated PG-13 for some sequences of intense action violence and frightening images.

NEW Poster & “CARIFICATION” Concept Art From Disney-Pixar’s CARS 2

International racers are lining up for the World Grand Prix in this all new poster from CARS 2. Are you excited to take on the international raceway with Lightning McQueen, Mater, Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell?

Have a look at this concept art from the movie. It was created to help design the look of the film before the set was built in the computer. With all-new characters, comedy, heart and an action-packed tale of international espionage, Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 2” hits the track on June 24, 2011 (U.S.), and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D in select theaters.

LE VROOM – Pixar reimagines Paris’ iconic Eiffel Tower in Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 2.” While the real Eiffel Tower was built in 1889, artists from Pixar Animation Studios began “carifying” it in June 2009. Concept art showcases the “carified” elements—the arches at its base take the form of wheels topped by car grill facades; the Tower’s top sports a modified spark plug and car antenna.

THE ROYAL TREATMENT – Pixar reimagines London’s New House of Parliament and Big Ben in Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 2.” Concept art created in July 2010 showcases the “carified” elements. Big Ben is transformed into Big Bentley, with spark plug towers, car grill arches and classic Bentley hood ornaments. The rest of the Parliament has car grills and headlights built into the façade with spark plugs on the spires.

THAT’S AMORE – Pixar reimagines the signature casinos of the European Riviera in Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 2” with the fictional Porto Corsa Casino in Italy. Concept art created in July 2010 showcases the “carified” elements – instead of lion statues on the building corners, Pixar artists created car statuary details.

Synopsis:

Star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in CARS 2 when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Mater finds himself torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret mission orchestrated by master British super spy Finn McMissile (voice of Michael Caine) and the stunning spy-in-training Holley Shiftwell (voice of Emily Mortimer). Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world. New Jack Sparrow Banner & Barbossa Photo From PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES

“Prepare For Battle” with pistols drawn is the command given by Jack Sparrow in Disney’s new banner above. Plus is this Friend or Foe? Check out this latest photo of Hector Barbossa from the set of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES

PIRATES 4 FUN FACTS

  • In “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” Johnny Depp reprises his iconic role of Jack Sparrow in his greatest adventure yet—a quest to find the legendary Fountain of Youth.
  • “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the previous three films in the “Pirates” franchise, and is directed by Rob Marshall of “Chicago” and “Memoirs of a Geisha” fame.
  • “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” is the first film in the “Pirates” franchise to be shot in Disney Digital 3D™, and the first all live-action, epic outdoor adventure shot on Red 3D cameras.

  • New characters add to the fun of the all-new story of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”: Blackbeard (Ian McShane), the ultimate pirate villain; Angelica (Penélope Cruz), a con-artist from Jack Sparrow’s past; Syrena( Astrid Bergès-Frisbey), the mystical mermaid; and Philip (Sam Claflin), the young mysterious missionary.
  • Spanish actress Penélope Cruz, who plays Angelica, brings pirate equality to the screen as she portrays a character every bit as adventurous, tricky and cunning as Captain Jack Sparrow—with whom she shares a colorful past.
  • Bringing legendary, fearsome pirate Blackbeard to life in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” is versatile actor Ian McShane, known for his Golden Globe®–winning performance in “Deadwood.”

  • For the fourth time, Geoffrey Rush reprises his role as Captain Hector Barbossa in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” Barbossa, Jack Sparrow’s nemesis, is a master swordsman and uncompromising pirate who sees himself as a man of honor despite his vocation. Until the last fim in the series, “At World’s End,” Barbossa’s first name, Hector,  was never uttered by any of the characters.
  • Though a well-known actress in France, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey makes her U.S. film debut in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” in the role of the mystical mermaid Syrena.
  • Although she spent more than two months in Hawaii, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey was not permitted to have fun in the sun on her days off…as the unearthly mermaid known as Syrena, she had to maintain her pale complexion.
  • Sam Claflin, who plays the young missionary Philip, is from the U.K. and attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
  • Keith Richards returns in a cameo as Captain Teague, Jack Sparrow’s father, in the fourth installment of the “Pirates” franchise.
  • Australian Gemma Ward, who plays Tamara, one of the eight mermaids in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” began modeling at age 14 and has already graced over 20 Vogue covers.
  • World-class competitive surfer Tamayo Perry was one of six Hawaiian Queen Anne’s Revenge crewmen cast by director Rob Marshall. But this wasn’t Tamayo Perry’s first brush with Walt Disney Studios. He was a surfing double in the film, as well as one of the title character’s competitors, in the studio’s 1999 “Johnny Tsunami.”
  • Although Yuki Matsuzaki is the first Japanese actor to portray a pirate in the “Pirates” series, he’s not the first from his country to play a pirate in a Walt Disney Pictures live-action movie. That honor belongs to Sessue Hayakawa, who played the leader of a pirate band attacking the heroes in 1960’s “Swiss Family Robinson.”

  • “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” represents production designer John Myhre’s fifth collaboration with director Rob Marshall. Myhre was honored with Academy Awards® for Best Achievement in Art Direction for both “Chicago” and “Memoirs of a Geisha.”
  • “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” appropriately enough for a pirate movie, shot on five different islands: Kauai, Oahu, Puerto Rico, Palominito (a small island off the island’s east coast), and although of a distinctly non-tropical nature, Great Britain.
  • “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” is the biggest movie to ever film at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, shooting more of the complex than any previous production.
  • In England, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” shot on three of the most important historic sites: the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, Hampton Court Palace and Middle Temple in The City.
  • While filming in the vast environs of the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Kauai, as well as the Coco Palms Hotel in Wailua, the long distances between base camp and the night shooting locations were marked by the Location department the Hawaiian way…with tiki torches lighting the pathways!
  • While filming in the thick coconut grove at the famed and now shuttered Coco Palms Hotel in Wailua—where Elvis once sang “Blue Hawaii” for the movie of that title—773 coconut palms were harvested to prevent the heavy fruits from falling on the hapless heads of cast and crew. The harvested coconuts were taken away by local residents to take full advantage of the meat and milk of the tropical fruits.
  • The fully functional Queen Anne’s Revenge is the first historical ship to be represented in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise.
  • The Fountain of Youth, a legendary spring whose water was rumored to return youth to anyone who drank it, was the object of an intense, but futile, search by Spanish explorer Ponce de León in the 1500s.  Now it’s up to Jack Sparrow to find the magical spring in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”  But homage is paid to Ponce de León in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland, California—a model skeleton represents him in the stateroom set.
  • It was reported in mid-January 2011 that a team of archaeologists discovered fragments of Blackbeard’s sword while excavating his flagship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge, off the coast of North Carolina (where it ran aground in the 18th century).  The real Sword of Triton, perhaps?

Synopsis:

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise—this time in Disney Digital 3D™. Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed adventure. Crossing paths with the enigmatic Angelica (Penelope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love—or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the “Queen Anne’s Revenge,” the ship of the legendary pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know whom to fear more: Blackbeard or Angelica, with whom he shares a mysterious past. The international cast includes franchise vets Geoffrey Rush as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa and Kevin R. McNally as Captain Jack’s longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs, plus Sam Claflin as a stalwart missionary and Astrid Berges-Frisbey as a mysterious mermaid.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES is written by PIRATES veterans Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio, suggested by the novel by Tim Powers. The executive producers are Mike Stenson, Chad Oman, Barry Waldman, Ted Elliott, Terry Rossio and John DeLuca.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES sails into theatres around the world on May 20, 2011. Click HERE to see WAMG’s coverage of Disney’s “Pirates Fans First” Event from December.

SKULL FUN FACTS

The iconic Skull representing “The Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise has undergone yet another transformation for the latest film, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”

  • The mysterious “X” scar on the left side of the face
  • New beads
  • A pearl in the gold front tooth
  • Blond streaks in the hair
  • Skeletons hanging from the last trinket on the beaded dreadlock
  • A hidden “Mickey” on the left dreadlock
  • Swimming mermaids engraved on the  hand guard of the right sword
  • The Skull features the signature red bandana Captain Jack Sparrow wore in all the films of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise. Red was a popular color with pirates, who preferred more colorful dress. It was also a color synonymous with “giving no quarter” to enemies as exemplified by flying a red Jolly Roger flag when engaging a foe at sea.
  • The crossed swords, or pirates’ cutlasses, have a special meaning: When the crossed swords face upward, they signify readiness for battle. When the swords point downward, they signify the end of conflict. Down-pointing crossed swords are a common military symbol on graves or memorials signifying death in battle. On the teaser poster the swords are pointing downward.
