Duncan Jones’ WARCRAFT Film Has Its First Photo And Logo

We’ve got your first look at Legendary’s WARCRAFT – the 3D epic adventure of world-colliding conflict based upon Blizzard Entertainment’s globally-renowned universe.

Directed by Duncan Jones (MOON, SOURCE CODE) and written by Charles Leavitt and Duncan Jones, the film is a Legendary Pictures, Blizzard Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment production.

The cast includes Travis Fimmel, Ben Foster, Paula Patton, Ben Schnetzer, Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, Toby Kebbell, Robert Kazinsky, Clancy Brown, Anna Galvin, and Daniel Wu.

Jones went on Twitter to share with fans the first photos of Orgrim from his upcoming film.

INSIDE OUT Cast And Filmmakers Make An Emotional Splash At Cannes 2015

The cast and filmmakers of Disney/Pixar’s INSIDE OUT had an emotional day in Cannes with stops at a press conference, photo call and world premiere.

Chief Creative Officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios John Lasseter, director Pete Doctor, producer Jonas Rivera, co-director Ronnie Del Carmen and US voice cast Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, Phyllis Smith and Lewis Black delighted attendees at today’s press conference for INSIDE OUT during the 68th annual annual Cannes Film Festival.

They were then joined by the French voice cast for the world premiere.

Do you ever look at someone and wonder what is going on inside their head? Disney•Pixar’s original new film INSIDE OUT ventures inside the mind to find out.

Based in Headquarters, the control center inside 11-year-old Riley’s mind, five Emotions are hard at work, led by lighthearted optimist Joy (voice of Amy Poehler), whose mission is to make sure Riley stays happy. Fear (voice of Bill Hader) heads up safety, Anger (voice of Lewis Black) ensures all is fair and Disgust (voice of Mindy Kaling) prevents Riley from getting poisoned—both physically and socially. Sadness (voice of Phyllis Smith) isn’t exactly sure what her role is, and frankly, neither is anyone else.

When Riley’s family relocates to a scary new city, the Emotions are on the job, eager to help guide her through the difficult transition. But when Joy and Sadness are inadvertently swept into the far reaches of Riley’s mind—taking some of her core memories with them—Fear, Anger and Disgust are left reluctantly in charge. Joy and Sadness must venture through unfamiliar places—Long Term Memory, Imagination Land, Abstract Thought and Dream Productions—in a desperate effort to get back to Headquarters, and Riley.

Todd Haynes’ CAROL Receiving Rave Reviews Out Of Cannes 2015 – Watch The Red Carpet Premiere

Director Todd Haynes’ CAROL has debuted at Cannes 2015 in Competition and was met with rapturous applause from both the audience and critics alike.

Written by Phyllis Nagy, it stars Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Sarah Paulson, Kyle Chandler, Jake Lacy and Cory Michael Smith.

Sasha Stone (Awards Daily) writes, “Carol is top to bottom a lavishly put together film, of the kind we don’t get to see that often anymore.”

In an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s seminal novel The Price of Salt, CAROL follows two women from very different backgrounds who find themselves in an unexpected love affair in 1950s New York. As conventional norms of the time challenge their undeniable attraction, an honest story emerges to reveal the resilience of the heart in the face of change.

“CAROL follows the unexpected love affair between two women of different ages and different social settings,” said Haynes. “A young woman in her early 20s, Therese, is embarking on life when she meets Carol Aird, an alluring older woman who has one daughter and is beginning to go through a divorce. As these two women become infatuated and entranced by each other, they begin to confront the conflicts their attraction provokes.”

Haynes wanted to draw on the aspect of unforeseen love as both Therese and Carol struggle to understand the signs and signals guiding their emotions. The film portrays a unique time in history where society “followed a prescribed path,” said Haynes.

A young woman in her 20s, Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara), is a clerk working in a Manhattan department store and dreaming of a more fulfilling life when she meets Carol (Cate Blanchett), an alluring woman trapped in a loveless, convenient marriage. As an immediate connection sparks between them, the innocence of their first encounter dims and their connection deepens.

While Carol breaks free from the confines of marriage, her husband (Kyle Chandler) begins to question her competence as a mother as her involvement with Therese and close relationship with her best friend Abby (Sarah Paulson) come to light.

Driven to play complex characters wrestling with secrets, Blanchett admits it is a “delicious thing to do” as an actress. “I think the gift of working on something based on a Patricia Highsmith novel is that the interior life of the characters is so rich – she’s masterful at dealing with characters who acknowledge, in a way, that every adult has a secret.”

Oscar winner Sandy Powell helped create Haynes’ and Lachman’s vision as the Costume Designer of CAROL. She took a naturalistic approach to dressing them as she said, “My job was to help create the characters and make them believable to each other and audiences. I wanted Carol to be fashionable, but understated— somebody a character like Therese would look up to and be impressed by as well.” In collaboration with Powell, Makeup Artist Patricia Regan and Hair Stylist Jerry Decarlo further evolved the physical identity of each character.

Michael Shannon Joins Noomi Rapace In THE PRICE

Cargo Entertainment announced today that Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (Man of Steel, Take Shelter, Revolutionary Road) and Matthias Schweighöfer (Valkyrie) have been added to the cast of writer-director Siofra Campbell’s thriller THE PRICE.

Shannon and Schweighöfer join Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Prometheus), who plays the frantic mother of a kidnapped child who realizes that her ex-partner, played by Shannon, is the instigator and must deal with the fall-out when he is double-crossed.

Under the recently announced partnership between Marina Grasic’s Cargo Entertainment and Mimi Steinbauer’s Radiant Films International, Steinbauer, in her new role as Cargo’s President of Distribution, is handling foreign sales on the project at the ongoing Cannes Film Market.

Cargo represents worldwide rights to the film.

“I’m thrilled that Michael and Matthias have come on board to join Noomi on this remarkable film. Siofra has written a mind-blowing edge of your seat page-turner which will be brought to life by this wonderful cast,” said Grasic.

“Michael truly immerses himself in every role he is cast in and consistently delivers subtle and powerful performances and Matthias is definitely one to watch. The impressive cast and heart-racing, tense script will make this a hot project for buyers,” said Steinbauer.

Peggy Cafferty and Patrick Campbell are producing the feature film. Production is slated to start in September in Europe.

Michael Shannon was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Sam Mendes’ REVOLUTIONARY ROAD starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. He recently starred in Zach Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL; THE ICEMAN starring Ray Liotta, James Franco and Winona Ryder; and Jeff Nichol’s critically acclaimed TAKE SHELTER opposite Jessica Chastain. He will next be seen in Broad Green Pictures’ 99 HOLMES opposite Andrew Garfield; Lionsgate’s FREEHELD opposite Julianne Moore and Ellen Page; as well as Warner Bros. MIDNIGHT SPECIAL starring opposite Kirsten Dunst and Joel Edgerton. He will also star in ELVIS & NIXON opposite Kevin Spacey, in post-production and just wrapped Werner Herzog’s SALT AND FIRE.

Award-winning actor Matthias Schweighöfer’s credits include Bryan Singer’s VALKYRIE opposite Tom Cruise, SOLOALBUM, OFF BEAT and EIGHT MILES HIGH for which he won the German Bambi Award for Best Actor. He also won the Golden Camera Award for his performance in the television film “Mein Leben – Marcel Reich-Ranicki.” Schweighöfer is also an accomplished filmmaker who most recently co-directed DER NANNY which he also starred in and was released in Germany in March.

Shannon is repped by CAA, Wetzel Entertainment and attorney David Krintzman of Morris Yorn and Schweighöfer by Players Agentur Management and UBBA.

Cargo’s other titles include the comedy WELCOME TO ME, starring stars Kristen Wiig. Their other titles include the political thriller ZIPPER which world premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and stars Patrick Wilson and Dianna Agron from executive producer Darren Aronofosky. US distributor Alchemy is releasing both films and will distribute ZIPPER later in the year.

Their slate also includes the Josh Duhamel starrer LOST IN THE SUN in post-production and Derrick Borte’s coming-of-age drama LONDON TOWN, set to star Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Focus Features To Release THE FOREST January 8, 2016 – Stars Natalie Dormer

THE FOREST, the supernatural thriller starring Natalie Dormer and Taylor Kinney which will be directed by Jason Zada based on an original idea by David S. Goyer, will commences principal photography today in Tokyo, Japan and in the environs surrounding the legendary Aokigahara forest at the base of Mt. Fuji.

Additionally, AI Film joins the Lava Bear Films project as a co-financier and co-producer, with Focus Features releasing the film nationwide on January 8, 2016.

THE FOREST, which is set in the Aokigahara forest at the base of Mt. Fuji, tells the story of a young American woman who goes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone’s warnings to “stay on the path,” Sara enters the forest determined to discover the truth about her sister’s fate, only to be confronted by the angry and tormented souls of the dead who prey on anyone who wanders into the forest.

Good Universe continues international sales on the project at this year’s Cannes market. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions previously acquired rights in multiple overseas territories including Australia, Spain, Eastern Europe and all of Asia outside of Japan.

Sarah Cornwell and Nick Antosca wrote the script of THE FOREST which is produced by Lava Bear Films and Goyer, under his Phantom Four banner. Len Blavatnik, , Aviv Giladi and Lawrence Bender will serve as executive producers for AI Film. Tory Metzger, President of Lava Bear, is overseeing the production.

Will Ferrell Set To Star In Lasse Hallström’s Comedy TOM’S DAD

Box office winner and Golden Globe nominee Will Ferrell (GET HARD, ANCHORMAN 1 and 2) will star in the comedy TOM’S DAD to be directed by Oscar nominated director Lasse Hallström (THE CIDER HOUSE RULES, THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY).

Principal photography on the feature film is slated to begin early next year, with further casting underway.

Set in 1960s Nevada, Arthur (Ferrell) is a struggling nightclub performer hoping to make it big with his stage act involving circus animals. He is forced to reconnect with his estranged 12-year old son, Tom, when his ex-wife departs on a three week trip, leaving the pair to rekindle their father-son relationship.

It was announced today by producers Joni Levin and Keith Clarke (THE WAY BACK, upcoming BEN HUR) of Point Blank Productions, Christi Dembrowski and Johnny Depp of Infinitum Nihil (HUGO, RUM DIARY, DARK SHADOWS) and Arsenal’s John Ptak (LET ME IN, THE WAY BACK).

Fortitude International, co-founded by Nadine de Barros, Robert Ogden Barnum and Daniel Wagner, is handling foreign sales on the project and is presenting it to buyers at the Cannes Film Market. De Barros is supported by her sales team including Katie Irwin, VP of International and Samantha Peel, Director of International Sales and Marketing.

Peter D. Graves (TERMINATOR SALVATION, W.) is executive producing, as well as providing marketing and distribution oversight.

Emmy-Award winning production designer Thomas A. Walsh (ABC’s “Desperate Housewives,” A&E’s “Longmire”) will co-produce.

UTA Independent Film Group is handling North American rights.

Martin Casella (ONE NIGHT STAND) wrote the original screenplay with revisions by Clarke.

“When great talent like Will Ferrell and Lasse Hallström connect so personally to great material, you have to believe the movie Gods are on your side,” said Levin.

“Will Ferrell is one of the most in demand actors working today who drives audiences to theatres given his likeable and charismatic persona. Combined with the sensibility and artistry of director Lasse Hallström, TOM’S DAD promises to be both entertaining and delightfully heartfelt,” said de Barros.

Amassing over $1 billion at the US box office, Will Ferrell has starred in an impressive list of successful blockbusters while also producing and managing his hugely popular website, Funny or Die. Most recently, he lent his voice to the box office smash THE LEGO MOVIE and starred in the hit GET HARD with comedian Kevin Hart. He next stars in DADDY’S HOME, with Mark Wahlberg for Paramount Pictures, which is scheduled for a late 2015 release and is currently filming the highly anticipated sequel, ZOOLANDER 2, opposite Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson. His other credits include ANCHORMAN 1 and 2, THE OTHER GUYS, STEP BROTHERS, STRANGER THAN FICTION and ELF.

Swedish film director Lasse Hallström has been nominated for three Oscars during his distinguished career. He directed the classic THE CIDER HOUSE RULES starring Michael Caine in an Oscar-winning performance. The film also won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar in addition to being nominated for Best Picture and Best Director. Hallström was previously nominated for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for MY LIFE AS DOG. Last summer, Hallström’s film, THE HUNDRED FOOT JOURNEY, starring Oscar winner Helen Mirren became a critical and box office success worldwide. His other directing credits include DEAR JOHN, CHOCOLAT and WHAT’S EATING GILBERT GRAPE.

Former CAA agent, John Ptak, founded Arsenal in 2006, which advises producers and filmmakers on the financing, marketing and distribution arrangements of independent films. Titles include Terry Gilliam’s THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSAS, LET ME IN, THE WAY BACK, WILD and U2 3D.

Producer Joni Levin and writer/producer Keith Clarke are founders of film and television production company Point Blank Productions. Their credits include THE WAY BACK directed by Peter Weir, starring Colin Farrell, Ed Harris, Saoirse Ronan and Mark Strong and BEN HUR starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Houston, directed by Timur Bekmambetov, written by Clarke and produced by Levin currently shooting.

EVERY SECRET THING – The Review

Eight years ago, a baby went missing and two young girls Ronnie and Alice (Dakota Fanning and Danielle Macdonald) were convicted of the crime and placed in juvenile detention. They’re now both 18 and are trying to move on with their lives after having served their time. Detective Nancy Porter (Elizabeth Banks) thinks history is repeating itself when another young girl goes missing in the same town. Of course the two main suspects are Ronnie and Alice. But as Porter begins to investigate the girls and their families, especially Alice’s mother (Diane Lane), they unearth a web of secrets and deceptions that calls everything into question.

What begins as a slow and meditative character piece – showing how traumatic events from your past can affect your day-to-day life – evolves into a police procedural mystery without much intrigue. In fact, it doesn’t take long for the film to completely flat-line, never gaining any form of life after initially introducing the characters. Most of the time EVERY SECRET THING feels like it’s going through the motions. For a story filled with high stakes and heightened emotions, there isn’t much gusto behind the proceedings. A story filled with cold characters and harsh consequences is presented in an even colder light. I’m usually a fan of films that explore the dark underbelly of suburbia. Denis Vileneuve’s 2013 film PRISONERS is an excellent example of this type of film done right. Unfortunately director Amy Berg never gives the audience a character to care for or a reason to care about their outcome.

All the performances are on point; especially Fanning. Even if she’s practically typecast as the waifish, insecure girl who mopes around more often than not, you can see she’s trying to breathe life into this underwritten character. Newcomer Danielle Macdonald on the other hand is garishly over the top most of the time. She plays a character that is longing for attention, but instead comes across as an actress vying for attention in a film with bigger name actors. The rest of the cast delivers the script in appropriate fashion, but competent actors aren’t enough to fill the gaps in this film.

One of my least favorite elements to a mystery is keeping a fact that most of the characters know on-screen except the audience until late in a film for a reveal. Over an hour into a 90-minute film a secret is revealed about a character to add motivation for their actions. Sometimes this act of deception can work and add depth to previous events, whereas other times it just feels like a cheap ploy. The latter is the case in EVERY SECRET THING. Keeping a secret motivation like the one here from the audience for the majority of the film feels too much like the murderer in an Agatha Christie novel going on a lengthy monologue towards the end of the story explaining what their diabolical plan was all along.

For all that doesn’t work in EVERY SECRET THING, the film does show how easily someone can misread another’s personality, and how some stories can be misconstrued by others or the media. Amy Berg’s background working as a documentary filmmaker (especially her film WEST OF MEMPHIS) certainly helped with that. But what made those previous films work so well is that you got to know the people in front of the camera; you understood their problems but got to see them as real people as well. Even though EVERY SECRET THING is based on an acclaimed novel, I found myself caring less and less about the characters and their story as the film went on. It almost makes you wonder if Berg felt this same fatigue while making it. EVERY SECRET THING shows that you can have a talented filmmaker at the helm directing a talented cast and yet things can still not quite come together.
