The ‘Movies on Art Hill’ Series in St. Louis continues this Friday, July 19thwith ANCHORMAN. Admission is FREE and the movie will start about 9pm.A Facebook invite for the event can be found HERE
Celebrate 10 years of films, food, and fun with your dream team this summer at the Art Hill Film Series! Everyone knows that Art Hill, in front of the St. Louis Art Museum, is a great place to go sledding in the winter. But did you know it’s a great place to see movies in the summer?
The We Are Movie Geeks gang always goes to these, so if you wanna hang with the cool kids, you should go too. It’s free and they set up a big screen at the bottom of the hill. There are food trucks and beer and wine for sale. You can even go dine in the museum’s restaurant before the show if you got money to burn. If you’re a museum member, you can show your membership card and get free popcorn and ice cream (I did that last year even though my card was expired!). Of course, you can bring a cooler with your own food and drinks as well. It’s a lot of fun! Bring your dog! The movies start at 9 but get there early! Thousands of people show up, especially if the weather is nice, and close parking is scarce. There’s live pre-show music and the people-watching can be entertaining.
What’s a film series without the food?
Bring your own picnic.
Food Truck Fest, presented by Sauce Magazine, will run from 6 to 8:30 pm in the parking lot to the west of the Louis IX statue on Art Hill. Food trucks vary each week and lines will close at 8:30 pm sharp each night. Cash, credit, and debit cards accepted. An ATM will be on Art Hill Plaza.
The Museum’s Cafe will be open and serving casual fare including freshly prepared soups, sandwiches, and salads until 9 pm.
Concession stands with snacks and soda will be located at the top of Art Hill. Show your Saint Louis Art Museum membership card and get a free bag of popcorn!
Adult beverages will be available for purchase at the Panorama booth.
Bring your appetite! Before the movie starts, make sure to tap into your creative side. Each week, there will be an Art Lab for adults complete with an instructor and all the materials you need to create your own Film Series masterpiece.

Forty years ago this summer, a frog with a dream to make millions of people happy hopped out of the swamp, onto a bicycle and into cinema history in “The Muppet Movie.” For two days only this July, the original classic is back in movie theaters nationwide from Fathom Events, The Jim Henson Company and Universal Pictures.
Tickets are available at www.FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices.
“The Muppet Movie” will play in more than 700 movie theaters on Thursday, July 25, and Tuesday, July 30, at 12:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. local time each day through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN). Following massive global success with the television hit “The Muppet Show,” which at its height aired in more than 100 countries around the world, Muppets creator Jim Henson took a huge creative risk to have the characters star in their first motion picture. The result, “The MuppetMovie,” directed by James Frawley, proved to be an enormous box-office hit. The film also charmed critics and received an Academy Award® nomination for “The Rainbow Connection,” the film’s iconic theme song with music and lyrics by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher.
The film stars Kermit (performed by Henson), Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear (performed by Frank Oz), Gonzo (performed by Dave Goelz) and his chicken Camilla (performed by Jerry Nelson), Scooter (performed by Richard Hunt), and Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem as they embark on a road trip to Hollywood where fame and fortune beckons, driven only by hope, dreams and a wisecracking bear.
In addition to the Muppet performers, “The Muppet Show” is a veritable who’s-who of 1970s pop culture, with a cast that includes Charles Durning, Austin Pendleton and cameo roles by Dom DeLuise, James Coburn, Madeline Kahn, Carol Kane, Telly Savalas, Milton Berle, Elliott Gould, Edgar Bergen, Bob Hope, Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Cloris Leachman and Orson Welles.
“‘The Muppet Movie’ is a cinematic treasure, a delightful film that may have been made 40 years ago but is truly timeless, thanks both to its iconic characters and to its always-stirring theme of following your dreams and believing in your own abilities,” said Tom Lucas, Fathom Events Vice President of Studio Relations. “This film’s return to the big screen is very well deserved and we are happy to work with The Jim Henson Company and Universal Pictures to give it a proper nationwide re-release.”

“Nobody should see FIGHT CLUB!” is what Rosie O’Donnell exclaimed on her talk show in 1999. “Shame on you Brad!” she added. “How many people with serious mental problems are going decide that the cure is to shoot themselves in the head!?” she asked in an apparent rage. Can a person miss the point of a movie any further? Despite Ms O’Donnell’s rant FIGHT CLUB will be long remembered as a film that defined a generation. Like REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE decades before FIGHT CLUB summed up its generation in all its materialistic , capitalistic glory. You’ll have the chance to experience FIGHT CLUB on the big screen this weekend (September 13th and 14th) when it plays at the Tivoli midnights this weekend as part of their ‘Reel Late at the Tivoli’ series.
FIGHT CLUB is a definitively ‘male’ movie (maybe that’s why Rosie didn’t like it it). This is neither good nor bad, but it is undeniable. The character of Marla as played by Helena Bonham Carter is entertaining, but mostly defined by her relationship to the two male leads. The picture would have almost worked without her, yet the film appeals to both men and women. FIGHT CLUB has great speed, in dialogues and actions, it has a great cast (even Meat Loaf is good), and most important it was deep, so deep that nobody noticed it was deep because the depth of FIGHT CLUB is beyond the tears and silences found in the usual deep movie. If you’ve seen it dozens of times and don´t know what movie to watch this weekend, go see FIGHT CLUB midnights at The Tivoli. If you’ve already seen it and don’t like it, go see FIGHT CLUB midnights at The Tivoli. If you’ve never seen it, I envy you seeing it for the first time. Go see FIGHT CLUB midnights at The Tivoli.
The Tivoli’s located at 6350 Delmar Blvd., University City, MO. Admission is a mere $8!
