Disney•Pixar’s INSIDE OUT To Premiere At Cannes Film Festival 2015

©2015 Disney•Pixar. All Rights Reserved.
©2015 Disney•Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

Disney•Pixar’s INSIDE OUT not only ventures inside the mind – it’s heading to the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival for its World Premiere.

Academy Award winner Pete Docter, who helmed Disney•Pixar’s UP (the first animated film ever to be the Festival’s Opening-Ceremony film), directs INSIDE OUT, an original new movie from Pixar Animation Studios. Docter, producer Jonas Rivera (UP), and co-director Ronnie Del Carmen (UP) will be on hand in Cannes, along with members of the all-star English-language voice cast.

“We are overjoyed at being included in this year’s official selection at Cannes,” said Docter. “With ‘Inside Out,’ we spent years imagining – and then building – never-before-seen settings and characters within the mind. It was an incredible, fun and exciting challenge and now we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

Do you ever look at someone and wonder what is going on inside their head? Disney•Pixar’s original new film INSIDE OUT ventures inside the mind to find out.

Based in Headquarters, the control center inside 11-year-old Riley’s mind, five Emotions are hard at work, led by lighthearted optimist Joy (voice of Amy Poehler), whose mission is to make sure Riley stays happy. Fear (voice of Bill Hader) heads up safety, Anger (voice of Lewis Black) ensures all is fair and Disgust (voice of Mindy Kaling) prevents Riley from getting poisoned—both physically and socially. Sadness (voice of Phyllis Smith) isn’t exactly sure what her role is, and frankly, neither is anyone else.

When Riley’s family relocates to a scary new city, the Emotions are on the job, eager to help guide her through the difficult transition. But when Joy and Sadness are inadvertently swept into the far reaches of Riley’s mind—taking some of her core memories with them—Fear, Anger and Disgust are left reluctantly in charge. Joy and Sadness must venture through unfamiliar places—Long Term Memory, Imagination Land, Abstract Thought and Dream Productions—in a desperate effort to get back to Headquarters, and Riley.

Directed by Academy Award winner Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.”, “Up”), produced by Jonas Rivera, p.g.a. (“Up”), co-directed by Ronnie Del Carmen (“Up”) and featuring an original score by Michael Giacchino (“The Incredibles,” “Ratatouille,” “Up”), Disney•Pixar’s INSIDE OUT opens in U.S. theaters on June 19, 2015.

68th Festival de Cannes Poster Features Ingrid Bergman

Hollywood star Ingrid Bergman is featured on the official poster of the 68th Festival de Cannes

Bergman was a modern icon, an emancipated woman, an intrepid actress, and a figurehead for the new realism. She changed roles and adoptive countries as the mood took her, but never lost sight of her quintessential grace and simplicity.

This year’s poster captures the actress, who worked with Alfred Hitchcock, Roberto Rossellini and Ingmar Bergman, and starred opposite Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart and Gregory Peck, in all her beauty, her face lit up by a calm serenity that seems to herald a promising future.

Liberty, audacity, modernity – values also shared by the Festival, year after year, through the artists and films it showcases. Ingrid Bergman was President of the Jury in 1973.

“My family and I are deeply moved that the Festival de Cannes has chosen to feature our magnificent mother on the official poster to mark the centenary of her birth,” said Isabella Rossellini. “Her outstanding career covered so many countries, from the smallest European independent films to the greatest Hollywood productions. Mum adored working as an actress: for her acting was not a profession but vocation. As she put it, ‘I didn’t choose acting, acting chose me.’

Ingrid Bergman, in Her Own Words‏, a documentary by Stig Björkman (the author of books and documentaries on Woody Allen and Ingmar Bergman) will also be screened as part of the Cannes Classics.

Finally, the Festival de Cannes will also be associated with the ‘Ingrid Bergman Tribute’ to be organised next September by Isabella Rossellini, to celebrate the centenary of her mother’s birth.

The show, directed by Guido Torlonia and Ludovica Damiani, will be based on the star’s autobiography and her correspondence with Roberto Rossellini. It will be performed in the five key cities in Ingrid Bergman’s life: Stockholm, Rome, Paris, London and New York, and will feature, alongside Isabella Rossellini, Jeremy Irons, Fanny Ardant, Christian De Sica and several other actors. The show’s cast will be announced at next Festival.

The 68th Festival de Cannes will take place from May 13 -24, 2015. The Jury will be presided by the American directors Joel Coen and Ethan Coen. The Official Selection will be announced on Thursday, April 16.

Sundance Selects announced today from the 2012 Cannes Film Festival that the company is acquiring all US rights to LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE directed and written by former Palme d’Or winner Abbas Kiarostami (CERTIFIED COPY, THE TASTE OF CHERRY). The film is an MK2 and Eurospace Production. It stars Rin Takanashi, Tadashi Okuno and Ryo Kase.  It was produced by Marin Karmitz (MK2) and Kenzo Horikoshi (Eurospace), and associate produced by Nathanael Karmitz and Charles Gillibert.  LIKE SOMEONE IN LOVE made its world premiere in competition earlier in the week at the Cannes Film Festival.

In his follow-up to the stateside hit CERTIFIED COPY (which starred Juliette Binoche), Abbas Kiarostami’s returns with yet another dazzling cinematic puzzle. An old man and a young woman meet in Tokyo. She knows nothing about him. He thinks he knows her. He welcomes her into his home. She offers him her body. Soon it becomes apparent that the web that is woven between them in the space of 24 hours bears no relation to the circumstance of their encounter.

Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said: “It’s a great honor to continue our relationship with Abbas Kiarostami after our successful collaboration with him on CERTIFIED COPY.  His latest film is a beautiful, mysterious masterpiece that we hope to continue to build his following with in the US. We are also clearly very happy to be working with our good friends at MK2 and also with Eurospace.”

IFC Films/Sundance Selects recently announced that it had acquired Walter Salles’ ON THE ROAD which is an MK2 production. The film screened to acclaim earlier in the week at Cannes in Competition. The two companies have previously collaborated on Gus Van Sant’s PARANOID PARK, Olivier Assayas’ SUMMER HOURS, Abbas Kiarostami’s CERTIFIED COPY and the upcoming Assayas’ film SOMETHING IN THE AIR.

Sundance Selects/IFC Films is already a major American presence at Cannes this year with several films already screening at the festival: Walter Salles’ competition film ON THE ROAD which the company acquired right before the festival began and will release jointly under IFC Films and Sundance Selects; Cristian Mungiu’s competition film BEYOND THE HILLS which is being releasedunder the Sundance Selects label; Adam Leon’s SXSW-winner GIMME THE LOOT which is also being released under Sundance Selects and is screening in Un Certain Regard; Rodney Ascher’s Sundance sensation ROOM 237 which was acquired for IFC Midnight and is screening at Director’s Fortnight; Ken Loach’s competition film THE ANGELS’ SHARE which Sundance Selects acquired during the festival; Ben Wheatley’s dark comedy SIGHTSEERS which is screening in Director’s Fortnight, and was acquired by IFC Films during the festival; and IM Sang Soo’s competition film THE TASTE OF MONEY which the company acquired yesterday for its IFC Midnight label.

The deal for the film was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with Victoire Thevenin of MK2 on behalf of the filmmakers.

Sony Pictures Classics Says Yes to Pablo Larrain’s Cannes Favorite NO From Participant Media

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired all North American rights to Pablo Larraín’s Cannes Directors’ Fortnight sensation, NO from financier Participant Media in association with Funny Balloons and Fabula. NO stars Gael García Bernal (Babel, The Motorcycle Diaries), Alfredo Castro, Antónia Zegers, Marcial Tagle, Néstor Cantillana, Jaime Vadell and Pascal Montero. The film is one of the best-received films in Cannes with raves from critics following the first screening in Director’s Fortnight.

Directed by Pablo Larraín (Post Mortem, Tony Manero) from a screenplay by Pedro Peirano (TheMaid), NO is produced by Juan de Diós Larraín and Daniel Dreifuss and executive produced by Participant’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King.

Based on a true story, when Chilean military dictator Augusto Pinochet, facing international pressure, calls for a referendum on his presidency in 1988, opposition leaders persuade a brash young advertising executive, Rene Saavedra (Gael García Bernal), to spearhead their campaign. With scant resources and constant scrutiny by the despot’s watchmen, Saavedra and his team devise an audacious plan to win the election and free their country from oppression.

“This movie is a masterfully engaging and energetic drama about politics and power, a tonic for the brain that is also a major entertainment. NO establishes Pablo Larrain as a major international director and Gael Garcia Bernal gives his finest performance. We are also delighted to be back in
business with our friends at Participant,” stated Sony Pictures Classics.

“Pablo, Gael and the team made a brave, inspiring film, and we are grateful to the audiences at Cannes for embracing it so warmly,” said Participant Media CEO Jim Berk, “Sony Pictures Classics is the perfect partner to introduce this film to American audiences.”

Jeff Ivers and Jonathan King of Participant Media negotiated the deal with SPC.
