Relativity Media Cashes In On Jim Carrey Action-Comedy Heist LOOMIS FARGO

Jim- 0012

Relativity Media has acquired worldwide rights to finance, produce and distribute the action-comedy heist film currently titled LOOMIS FARGO starring Jim Carrey, it was announced today by Relativity. The project, directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre), based on an original screenplay by Emily Spivey (Up All Night) and written by Chris Bowman (The Wrong Brother) and Hubbel Palmer (Humble Pie), is targeted to start production in North Carolina this April.

Inspired by true events, LOOMIS FARGO tells the story of a disgruntled bank employee who is ready to take a chance and risk it all for love, money, and a life he’s only dreamed of. Teaming up with his work crush, they conspire to rob the financial institution. Together with their accomplices, the inexperienced criminals nab nearly $20 million – leaving a trail of evidence in their wake. Now the only thing tougher than pulling off the heist – will be getting away with it.

Carrey can be seen next in Don Scardino’s THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE and Jeff Wadlow’s KICK-ASS 2.

The project will be produced by Lorne Michaels & John Goldwyn (The Guilt Trip, Baby Mama). Danny McBride (Pineapple Express, Tropic Thunder), Jody Hill (Eastbound & Down), Michael Aguilar (What Happens in Vegas) and Kevin Messick (The Other Guys) will executive produce alongside Relativity’s CEO, Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter) and President, Tucker Tooley (The Fighter).

Relativity’s Brett Dahl will oversee the project for the studio.

Relativity recently acquired U.S. rights to distribute Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s daring, hotly pursued directorial debut Don Jon’s Addiction at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Up next, Relativity will release the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling Safe Haven (in theatres February 14, 2013), the comedy 21 and Over (in theatres March 1, 2013) and the corporate espionage thriller Paranoia (in theatres October 4, 2013). Relativity is currently in post-production on Scott Cooper’s gritty dramatic thriller currently-titled Out of the Furnace and Luc Besson’s comedic action film currently-titled Malavita (in theatres October 18, 2013) with EuropaCorp.

With everything to lose after his identity is stolen, he’ll find out how crazed you can get trying to settle a bad credit score.

Unlimited funds have allowed Diana (McCarthy) to live it up on the outskirts of Orlando, where the queen of retail buys whatever strikes her fancy. With only one week to hunt down the con artist before his world implodes, the real Sandy Bigelow Patterson heads south to confront the woman with an all-access pass to his life. Win A Pass To The Advance Screening Of BEAUTIFUL CREATURES In St. Louis

BeautifulCreatures-OneSht

Oscar® nominee Richard LaGravenese (“The Fisher King,””P.S. I Love You”) directs the supernatural love story “Beautiful Creatures” from his adaptation of the first novel in the best-selling series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich), 17, has had the same recurring dream for months. A mysterious young girl is waiting for him on a Civil War battlefield. Ethan desperately wants to be with her, but there is an unknown danger—and each time a lightning bolt cracks like a gunshot, killing Ethan before he ever reaches the girl.

The danger of this strange dream world, however, is preferable to Ethan’s waking existence in Gatlin, South Carolina, a small, conservative Southern town that hasn’t caught up to the 21st century, where nothing ever changes and nothing ever happens. Trapped at home with a father who has completely withdrawn since the sudden death of Ethan’s mother, Ethan yearns for a life he can only read about in books.

But Ethan’s mundane world is shaken up with the arrival of Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert), the beautiful and enigmatic niece of Macon Ravenwood (Jeremy Irons), the reclusive owner of gothic Ravenwood Manor. Ethan finds himself immediately drawn to Lena, even though destruction seems to inexplicably follow her and it becomes apparent that she is a Caster, with powers beyond her control. The town, led by conservative Mrs. Lincoln (Emma Thompson), wants her banished. Even Gatlin’s all-knowing librarian, Amma (Viola Davis), is afraid history may repeat itself—a history of family secrets and a curse that looms for Lena as she approaches her 16th birthday. It is that time when a Caster is chosen by the forces of either the Light or the Dark.

But Lena’s fate may already be sealed by the curse that draws both her and Ethan into a tangled web of spells and peril from which there may be no escape.

The film stars Alden Ehrenreich (“Tetro”), Alice Englert (“Ginger & Rosa”), Academy Award® winner Jeremy Irons (“Reversal of Fortune”) Oscar® nominee Viola Davis (“The Help,” “Doubt”), Emmy Rossum (TV’s “Shameless”), Thomas Mann (“Project X”) and Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson (“Howard’s End,” “Sense and Sensibility”). Rounding out the cast are Eileen Atkins, Margo Martindale, Zoey Deutch, Tiffany Boone, Rachel Brosnahan, Kyle Gallner, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Sam Gilroy.

Sony Pictures Classics Acquires Rights To Charlie Paul’s FOR NO GOOD REASON Featuring Johnny Depp

FOR NO GOOD REASON – Ralph Steadman and Johnny Depp in Ralph’s Studio, Kent, UK. Photographer: Charlie Paul

Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all North American rights to Charlie Paul’s directorial debut, FOR NO GOOD REASON from Itch Film. Foreign sales are being handled by Independent Film Sales. Charlie Paul, who has been a director in advertising for years and is a former artist himself, spent 10 years making FOR NO GOOD REASON. Produced by Itch Film’s co-founder Lucy Paul, the intimate documentary portrait focuses on Ralph Steadman and features Johnny Depp observing Steadman’s fascinating working process at his home studio.

Ralph Steadman is most frequently celebrated for his brilliant illustrations accompanying the writings of Hunter S Thompson, and their collaborations  defined the Gonzo school of journalism that emerged to pick at the scabs of the American establishment during the turbulent eras of Vietnam and Nixon. Among his many achievements, Steadman has drawn political and satirical work informed by a deep social conscience, illustrated classics such as Alice in Wonderland and Animal Farm, printed etchings on writers from Shakespeare to Burroughs, and published books on the lives of Sigmund Freud, Leonardo da Vinci and God. FOR NO GOOD REASON presents Steadman as a driven artist with a voracious creative instinct.

The film also features an inventive soundtrack with collaborations from Slash, All American Rejects, Jason Mraz, Lynval Golding, Ed Harcourt, James Blake, Crystal Castles and more. Grammy nominated and two time Ivor Novello winner, Sacha Skarbek is the music director.

“Working with Ralph Steadman and using his art as the palette to construct this film, created the perfect canvass for me to make something personal, profound and very beautiful,” says Director Charlie Paul.

Producer Lucy Paul adds, “We are thrilled to be working with Sony Pictures Classics, whose love of the film and inventive approach to marketing will ensure our film finds the exposure and audience it deserves.”

“Ralph Steadman is one of the most profound and innovative artists of our generation. We have always admired his work and in this wonderful film, Charlie Paul opens Steadman’s studio and unique creative process to both his admirers and new fans in the process,” states Sony Pictures Classics.
