Lucas sees no future beyond the Ewoks …

Above is another still from the upcoming animated feature film, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This will be the seventh feature film in the franchise, but apparently Lucas holds no interest in expanding the story past Darth Vader’s demise.

[“I get asked all the time, ‘What happens after “Return of the Jedi”?,’ and there really is no answer for that,” he said. “The movies were the story of Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker, and when Luke saves the galaxy and redeems his father, that’s where that story ends.”] — George Lucas reveals during an interview by the Los Angeles Times

Now, I’m not a die-hard Star Wars fan, but they were cool movies. This article, however, I found interesting. What I’d like to see, is if George Lucas will do something completely new and different, or is he going to just stick with marketing his cash cow? To read the full article, go to the Los Angeles Times.

‘Captain America’ casting news … already?!

matt and cap

I was browsing through some of the Tumblr blogs I have been following and noticed a post about Captain America casting news.

It appears Matt McConaughey is the leading candidate for the leading role! The flick is not due to be released until 2011 which means filming won’t start until 2009? maybe 2010? and Matt’s name is already being thrown around? This is some really early speculation but the site claims to have a reliable source. They also mention his physique could be Captain quality and he is popular with the ladies so they could draw in a slightly different demographic than the Cap usually draws.

What do you think? Good choice? Would someone else be better? Did anyone ever read Wizard magazine back in the day when they had the Casting Call section? They would “cast” a movie version of a comic book picking the best thespians for the roles. I picked Patrick Stewart to play Professor X and I was right! My friend and I thought Bruce Willis would have been a great Wolverine.

What do you think? Matt McConaughey as Captain America? Who else could/should play the role?

Marvel Releases plans for next 4 films …

Just a quick update here, guys and gals. Marvel just released its plan for its next four films, following the success of Iron Man on opening weekend. Unfortunately, there will be now new releases in 2009, apparently due to the recent strike concerns. As for 2010, Marvel will release Iron Man 2, which has a tentative release date of April 30, 2010. This will be followed by the Thor feature, which has a tentative release date of June 4, 2010. Following this will be the Captain America feature, currently titled The First Avenger: Captain America, which has been given a release date on May 6, 2011 … potentially followed by an Avengers feature. Marvel is going to be busy, but that’s OK with us.

‘The Lovely Bones’ is feeling like a Gilliam project

I love Peter Jackson to death, but I fear his artistic genius* may begin to cause him headaches in the like of Terry Gilliam’s career. [*especially considering he’s a self-taught film-maker…] Not long after Jackson had a falling out with then star Ryan Gosling, whereas Gosling was dropped from the project and replaced by Mark Wahlberg, Jackson is now having it out with the art directors over their interpretation of Heaven, which plays a significant role in the film. Jackson has temporarily halted production on the film until those who disagree come around and finally see things his way. You tell ’em Pete!

Jonah Hill in ‘Transformers 2’ ?

That’s right folks, everyone’s favorite chubby slacker is in early talks to start opposite Shia LaBeouf in the new installment of Transformers. Looks like they are wanting to add more humor into the movie, but lets just hope it doesn’t turn into rush hour.

Maybe they could get Jonah to run around in those platform boots with the goldfish in them from 40 Year Old Virgin?? That would be humor.

Remember our talks last week about Michael Bay giving us DISINFORMATION. Chalk this one up to that, I dont see this happening, and his people wont come out and say that its true. instead choosing to respond with questions. read below:

scott: Can you give me some info about this Jonah Hill/Transformers thing … this has to be a farce … Michael bay said last week he was giving disinformation and now this comes out?
jonah hills mgr: Uh, why would this be a farce?
scott: Because they are too similar, plus michael bay said he would give out DISINFORMATION … is this legit?
jonah hills people: silence.

‘Crank 2’ will Haim to please …

According to TheMovieBlog.com, Corey Haim has been cast in Crank 2. Is this the beginning of Haim’s comeback rise to glory? I haven’t found any details regarding what his role will be, but who cares? This news is both cool and funny at the same time. What do you think? Should he be a good guy, a bad guy … or, one of many likely dead bodies?

Jonah Hill in ‘Transformers 2’ … ?

The Transformers sequel is scheduled to begin shooting this summer and now there’s a new bit of casting news out there, thanks to EW.com — Apparently, Jonah Hill (SuperBad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) is in talks with DreamWorks and Paramount to co-star in the action blockbuster along side Shia LaBeouf as Sam’s college roommate. Jonah would give the movie the perfect sort of comic relief … and something tells me these two actors may actually work well together on screen … of course, not as well as Hill and Cera.

Dark Knight: Great Campaign until “snooooze” posters

International Dark Knight Poster - Joker

I hate to start off my first post with a major Warner Brothers summer blockbuster but I seriously couldn’t resist. The Dark Knight released a set of international posters today with Omelete but what a disappointment. The new Batman movie tops my list of movies for the summer. Their viral campaign has been undoubtedly one of the most in-depth and comprehensive so far. Chris has done an amazing job of tracking this movie.

Keep an eye for The Dark Knight trailer that is expect to be released tonight.

Michael Bay is jerking us around …

So, we all know about the Transformers sequel, but how much do we really know? We’ve seen what may seem to some quite a bit of information leaked from insiders about Transformers 2, which leapt almost immediately from the first movie’s box office domination to a very quickly completed script and lots of “rumors” about details, incuding which new Decepticons will be seen and who’ll be cast. Well, apparently none of its true … we think? Michael Bay has publicly denied all of it on his website:

“Sorry everyone, everything you are reading (other then we are shooting in Philly) is false,† says Bay on his website. “We are going to give so much disinformation on this film to confuse everyone.† [source: slashfilm.com]

What the heck? I understand keeping tight lips on production, but what’s with the outright lying … if that’s the “actual” truth? Bay already has plenty of critics, does he really want to encourage more negativity? Anyway, I realize this is a photo from the first movie’s production, but I find it funny that he’s standing in front of a big green construction tractor.
