This New Trailer for the Christopher Guest-Style Comedy MARATHON is Hilarious!

The Christopher Guest-style mockumentary MARATHON premieres on digital and On Demand this July. This trailer will have you in stitches!:

From writer-directors Keith Strausbaugh and Anthony Guidubaldi, Marathon is “a cheeky, giggle-filled mockmentary” (The Film Yap) that tracks an assemblage of improbable partakers of a long-distance race “Christopher Guest-style” (Projected Figures).

The mock-doc begins three months before Devil’s Canyon Marathon, an underfunded local race organized by shoe store owner, Ed Clap. We meet and follow the below runners, delving into their training, but more importantly, their personal relationships (or lack thereof) with friends, family, and romantic partners. Ryan O’Brien missed qualifying for last year’s Boston Marathon by nine seconds. He’s obsessed with everything Boston. This is his year. Or is it? A foot injury and a testy relationship with the cameraman may be his undoing. Jenna Kowalski is attempting to break the record for fastest marathon time dressed as a fruit, but a new relationship threatens to thwart her efforts. Will she be top banana? Abby Dozier tried to run a marathon the previous year, but an unexpected pregnancy threw a wrench (or baby) in her plans. Now with a year of motherhood under her belt, she’s ready to run again. Shareef Washington earnestly wants to complete a marathon to prove his bullying, triathlete sister wrong, but his own training is continually interrupted by overzealous cops suspicious of a Black male runner. Emilou Paunch quits roughly 30 seconds into her training regime… because she’s a sane, normal person. From there, all aspects of her life (sex, career, health, etc.) get progressively better. Not running the marathon was the best decision Emilou ever made.

Kimia Behpoornia, Tavius Cortez, Andrew Hansen, Roberto Raad, Marc Roberts, Natalie Sullivan, Jimmy Slonina and Anais Thomassian star.

Said the filmmakers of the cast, “Every mock-doc lives and dies by its cast, so the spotlight should be on them, not us. Thankfully, we had a company of Las Vegas comedic stars from Cirque du Soleil, Absinthe, Second City, and Blue Man Group… mixed with a few up-and-coming and hilarious Upright Citizens Brigade actors from LA. That’s our statement”.

Adds the P.A, “Look, man, I was just getting $150/day. I can’t really comment on the overall vision.”

Marathon is on digital and On Demand July 6 from Gravitas Ventures.

Director Sean Hardaway’s Shocking PASTURE Available on DVD June 15th From Mill Creek Entertainment

Mill Creek Entertainment has tabbed June 15 for the DVD debut of director Sean Hardaway’s psychological thriller PASTURE. Ordering information can be found HERE

It’s rural Texas, the Nueces River meanders its way through a remote scrub oak ranch on its way to Corpus Christi and the Gulf of Mexico.   It’s a lovely place, quiet, serene … peaceful.  Sarah (Abigail Rose — Dandy, Crunch Time) awakes in this pastural setting to the voice of James (Brian Kelly), who keeps asking, “what do you remember?”  Disoriented, unclear as to where she is or what is happening, James reassures her that everything is fine … oh, and by the way, this is your sister Ingrid (Kimberley Christann Pember).  This is the nightmare world that Sarah awakes to.   A strange man, who says he is family and appears to be some sort of doctor and a stranger who is, she is told, her sister.   She can’t remember anything, where she is or how she got to this remote location.  Is it a dream … is it real?

Pasture is a psychological horror tale and we soon learn that the all-too-friendly James is experimenting on Sarah.   She is suffering from “schizophrenia” and he is zapping her from time to time to correct the problem … scrambling her brain and the memories therein.   She’s a prisoner, in more ways than one. The big question, if the kindly James and his assistant, Ingrid, can’t cure poor Sarah, does he simply let her go?   Is she really family?   It is a big place, lots of land to bury the past (so to speak) … and she might not be their first “guest.”   A skin-crawling creep-out … June 15 on DVD!!

BACK TO THE FUTURE Screens Sunday Night June 13th at the Sky View Drive-in in Litchfield, Illinois

“One other thing. If you guys ever have kids, and one of them, when he’s eight years old, accidentally sets fire to the living room rug… go easy on him.”

BACK TO THE FUTURE screens Sunday Night June 13th at the Sky View Drive-in in Lichtfield, Il. (1500 Historic Old Route 66) This is part of the Sky View’s ‘Throwback Sundays’. The second Sunday of the month, they screen a classic movie. Admission is only $7 (free for kids under 5). The movie starts at 8:45pm and will be followed by a screening of SPIRIT UNTAMED. The Sky View’s site can be found HERE.

Today, the original BACK TO THE FUTURE (1985) is dated only by its Huey Lewis soundtrack and the choice of a De Lorean as a time machine. Except for a needless scene in which an obviously dubbed Michael J. Fox pretends he’s both Chuck Berry and Jimi Hendrix, there’s little to criticize, and much to admire. One surprise in watching BACK TO THE FUTURE 32 years later is how cleverly the plot and script ties the past and present events together. Watching the film for a second or third time only adds to the pleasure, because references become clear that during a first viewing only seemed like idle dialogue. You’ll have the chance to watch it again on the big screen this weekend when it plays Sunday night at the Sky View!
