INCEPTION Poster Premiere!

Inceptionsite

The official website for INCEPTION (the new film by THE DARK KNIGHT mastermind Christopher Nolan) premiered the new poster for the film after you, the user, complete a maze of sorts. I am really digging the vibe of this poster, yet noted by JoBlo, what’s with the CHIGAGO font? Anyone? A new trailer for the film will be shown before SHERLOCK HOLMES on Christmas Day, but until then, here is the teaser poster! (If you wanna try your hand at the game and see if you can find the poster yourself, click the link or the picture at the top of the post!)

THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE Trailer!

Apprent

This evening hosts the premiere of the first trailer for the film The SORCERER’S APPRENTICE. My thoughts? Nic Cage has awesome hair yet again, Alfred Molina looks to be an outstanding villain, Jay Baruchel should be a joy and well, I think this looks like a fun summer film, which it is. The film is directed by Jon Turteltaub, who previously directed Cage in the NATIONAL TREASURE films and also helmed classics such as COOL RUNNINGS and 3 NINJAS. The script is penned by Carlo Bernard and Matt Lopez, both of whom haven’t done anything spectacular. I will say that I am digging the vibe of the film. I saw a brief reference to the original story near the end of the trailer with the magical mops and pails. Good times! The plot synopsis for the film is as follows:

An average college student (Jay Baruchel) is reluctantly recruited to work for a sorcerer (Nicolas Cage), who gives him a crash course in the art and science of magic to prepare him for a battle against the forces of darkness in modern Manhattan.

The kind folks over at Apple are hosting an HD version of the trailer, so follow the screenie and check it out!

WOLFMAN Gets An R!

wolfman

I think that I am the only one of my friends who is legitimately looking forward to director Joe Johnston’s WOLFMAN (which hits theaters Feb 12th, 2010). I just love the Gothic feel and its visuals remind me of another favorite of mine, THE PRESTIGE. It just looks fantastic, despite its somewhat campy promotion.

To make matters better, Universal announced today that the film will be rated R for “bloody horror, violence and gore.” HECK YES. This is exactly what I needed to hear in order to solidify my word that this film will be pretty freaking rad. I’m glad we are getting to see some bloody wolf violence in this setting. I think we were all truthfully ready to give this film a pass due to the inevitable PG-13 rating and the toning down of the monster violence. I guess all naysayers can eat their own words and hope for the best now that this announcement has been made!

As I said, WOLFMAN hits theaters on February 12th 2010. Will you be there to enjoy it with me?

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS Teaser Trailer!

HP7Teaser

Just minutes ago I was scanning the pages of /Film.com and noticed that Pete just posted the first teaser to HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS!! This is an exclusive feature on the release of HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE DVD/Blu-ray and includes an intro with dir. David Yates and pr. David Heyman and some behind the scenes footage. For those of us who have read the book, these scenes are definitely looking quite familiar! Some of the clips in the teaser are obviously from the latter part of the two-part final chapter, but there is definitely plenty to take in with this brief teaser trailer. Check it out below!

Part one of the final duo of films hits theaters on November 19th 2010

BLACK HOLE Coming From TRON: LEGACY Team

Blackhole1979

TRON: LEGACY is raising tons of hype in the geek community after their impressive display of special effects at this past Comic-Con and their awesome viral marketing with Flynn’s Arcade. The mythology of Tron has always been very close to me because my uncle played the title character. Enough about that though! Word has reached the film blogs (via HeatVision) that the team behind the upcoming TRON: LEGACY will be teaming up to reinvent the 1979 Disney Sci-Fi film, THE BLACK HOLE. I have not seen the film (alas, one has slipped through the cracks…I’m not perfect) but here is the plot synopsis from IMDB:

It is the year 2130 A.D. An Earth exploratory ship, the USS Palomino, discovers a black hole with a lost ship, the USS Cygnus, just outside its event horizon. Deciding to solve the mystery of the Cygnus are: the Palomino’s Captain, Dan Holland; his First Officer, Lieutenant Charlie Pizer; journalist Harry Booth; scientist and ESP-sensitive Dr. Kate McCrae, whose father was the Cygnus’s First Officer; Dr. Alex Durant, the expedition’s civilian leader; and the robot known as V.I.N.CENT. The Palomino attempts a dangerous fly-by of the darkened ship. As they come within close range of it, the buffeting they experience (due to the black hole’s gravity) suddenly ceases. They bring more instruments to bear on the derelict, but do not even realize the gravity-free zone is artificial; slipping outside it, they are almost drawn into the black hole, an abyss from which no one can escape. Matters worsen when Reinhardt holds the crew captive, after realizing that they can help him reach his goal. The squad must now figure out a way to flee from Reinhardt — before it’s too late. (Summary Credit: IMDB User Anthony Pereyr)

Sounds quite cool to me (as I click “add” on my Netflix queue) and I feel that based on what footage we saw from Comic-Con, Director Joseph Kosinski and Producer Sean Bailey may just be the guys for the job. With TRON: LEGACY coming out in December of 2010 however, Kosinski’s plate seems pretty full so we may not see any more news on this for at least a few months.

Check out the trailer for the 1979 original below and leave your thoughts on this new development!

WAMG Podcast Announcement/Contest!

WAMGpodcast

Hello movie geeks! For those of you who don’t know who I am, my name is Tim Buel and I just started writing here at WAMG a few weeks ago. Prior to writing here, I ran a little film blog called Fliktalk.com. In addition to being the editor in chief of the site, I also hosted the podcast. We closed our doors this past September due to scheduling conflicts and loss of some team members, but the passion was still alive in me to bring a fun, informative and entertaining podcast to my fellow film geeks. Enter WAMG. I was hired by Scott as a news writer, which has been awesome, but I recently offered to take the reigns and helm the site’s podcast.

So where are we now? I have been in pre-production on the show this passed week or so and have come up with some pretty fun ideas. I will be joined by Scott and Kirk as your regular hosts and we will be chatting about a variety of topics, many of which, we hope you will contribute to! We will also be joined by various guests from other film sites, and of course some celebrity guests from both behind and in front of the camera! You can also expect some awesome contests which will test your creativity as a film geek, and your overall film knowledge and opinion!

Speaking of contests, that leads my to my next bit. We are very excited about this new show and we want you, as the audience and our fellow geeks, to have some participation in its birth. So here’s our offer: Help us name the show! We want something snappy, sexy and of course, related to our common love of all things cinema. If you have an idea for the name of the show, send an email to wamgpodcast@gmail.com with “Show Title” in the subject line. What’s in it for you? If your show name is selected, you will receive a box of of swag. This includes DVDs, shirts and other movie related paraphernalia. Sound cool or what? So get on it!

Submissions for the contest will end on Monday December 7th at 11:59pm PST so you have a whole week to get some awesome names to us. The first ever show will be live on ustream.tv (where you can participate in the chat room and listen live) starting   Wednesday December 9th at 6:30pm PST/9:30pm EST. If the dates change, we will inform you!

We look forward to reading your submissions and bringing you a film podcast that you won’t soon forget!

SEE YOU GUYS SOON!

Trailer: EXAM

Exam

I love films that use one location. So much extra suspense is added due to the fact that we, like the characters, can’t escape. 12 ANGRY MEN, SAW and many others employee this technique to great affect and it looks like Stuart Hazeldine’s EXAM is going to join the ranks. Check out his synopsis via IMDB below:

Eight talented candidates have reached the final stage of selection to join the ranks of a mysterious and powerful corporation. Entering a windowless room, an Invigilator gives them eighty minutes to answer one simple question. He outlines three rules they must obey or be disqualified: don’t talk to him or the armed guard by the door, don’t spoil their papers and don’t leave the room. He starts the clock and leaves. The candidates turn over their question papers, only to find they’re completely blank. After the initial confusion has subsided, one frustrated candidate writes ‘I believe you should hire me because…,’ and is promptly ejected for spoiling. The remaining candidates soon figure out they’re permitted to talk to each other, and they agree to cooperate in order to figure out the question: then they can compete to answer it. At first they suspect the question may be hidden in their papers like a security marker in a credit card, and they figure out ways to change their environment to expose the hidden words. But light, liquids and other plans all come to naught. Soon enough, the candidates begin to uncover each other’s background, prejudices and hidden agendas. Tensions rise as the clock steadily descends towards zero, and each candidate must decide how far they are willing to go to secure the ultimate job . . .

Sounds like an outstanding concept to me. The film premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival in August with decent reviews (one here from THR) Empire has premiered the trailer online, which you can find embedded below.

Thoughts? I am definitely intrigued, but I think they may have given away too much in the trailer…
