J.J. Abrams’ ‘Earthquake’? Start the Viral Marketing in 3, 2, 1…

Is it the Cloverfield monster?   Is it the island?   Is it a Rembaldi Geometric Device?   Only J.J. Abrams knows for sure.

It appears the producer is planning to team with screenwriter David Seltzer, ‘The Omen’, on a disaster flick for Universal that includes an earthquake.

The film has no title as of yet and is evidently not a remake of the 1974, Charlton Heston vehicle ‘Earthquake’.   In fact, in high Abrams fashion, most details are being kept under tight lock and key.   The only real detail given so far is, like ‘Cloverfield’, the film will deal with relationships.

Office pools abound as to when the first viral website will be set up to coincide with the new film.

Movie Melting Pot… ‘City of Men’ (Brazil, 2007)

When Fernando Meirelles’ 2002 film, ‘City of God’, was released, it was heralded as nothing short of a masterpiece. It was nominated for four Academy Awards including a Best Director nod for Meirelles and quickly became a “must see” on many critic’s end of the year lists. Very First Look At ‘Prince of Persia’

A paparazzi site known as Just Jared has scored the very first images of Jake Gyllenhaal all decked out in his Prince of Persia getup.

‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ is currently filming in Morocco.   It was recently announced that the Jerry Bruckheimer produced video game adaptation had its release date pushed back from Summer 2009 to May 28, 2010.   This was evidently due to the nature of the post-production special effects the film will incorporate.

The film is being directed by Mike Newell and also stars Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina.   It is being released by Disney.

The film will make its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.

Boycott Against ‘Tropic Thunder’ Planned

More than a dozen groups plan to boycott the opening of Ben Stiller’s new film, ‘Tropic Thunder’, beginning Monday morning.   The boycott, backed by such groups as the Special Olympics, the National Down Syndrom Congress, and the American Association of People with Disabilities, is due to what the groups consider an “open ridicule” of the mentally disabled. Transformers Filming Delayed Four Weeks

What was thought to initially be a minor setback is turning into quite a big deal.   First unit filming on the upcoming “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” has been put on a four-week hiatus due to Shia LaBeouf’s injuries.

Second unit photography, which generally consists of shots of scenery and other inserts or cutaways, will continue during the hiatus.

There is no indication on whether or not this will affect the film’s June 26, 2009 release date.
