On Thursday, Anthony Deveney, Director/Writer Zach Cregger, Austin Abrams and James Deveney were at the Discord Fan Event At Comic-Con For Constantin Film And Columbia Pictures’ “Resident Evil” in San Diego, California.
Director Zach Cregger told USA TODAY during San Diego Comic-Con that Austin Abrams, “jumped, and he hit his head on a razor-sharp edge,” Cregger recalls. “There’s blood all over this movie, but there was also a ton of real blood. I remember running up the stairs and seeing him, and he’s looking at me, and it was blood all down his face. The head wound’s bleeding. He went and got stitched up, and he wanted to come back and keep shooting.”
The article goes onto say, “During Collider’s Directors on Directing Comic-Con panel earlier in the day on July 23, Cregger recounted filming a sequence in the movie where Abrams’ character runs while zombies fall and explode around him. The scene was shot by dropping 150-pound sacks around Abrams as he was running, but one of them was dropped too soon and nearly hit the actor. “If he’d had been an inch to the right, he would have definitely died,” Cregger said at the panel.”
“That scene was definitely pretty harrowing,” Abrams tells USA TODAY, speaking alongside Cregger at the Comic-Con “Resident Evil” x Discord Fan Experience. “Because it was a thing where you needed to be in specific places in order to not get hit. You do see what it does to the car. I mean, it would totally demolish the car.”
