Here’s a first look at the first trailer for the AI thriller, HOT SPOT.
In Hot Spot, set in a near future society ruled by sentient A.I., a private eye investigates a murder case only to discover a rebel group capable of undermining the digital overlord. As the detective’s identity slowly unravels, his world enters a state of hypnotic meltdown.
Starring Andrzej Konopka, Noomi Rapace, Reika Kirishima, the film opens on August 21.
Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s English-language debut was 2022’s THE SILENT TWINS. It’s the true story of twin sisters who only communicated with one another. As a result, they created a rich, fascinating world to escape the reality of their own lives. Based on the best-selling book The Silent Twins, the film stars Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrance. Speaking to Variety in 2023, Smoczyńska said HOT SPOT was inspired by the growing unease felt by many people after years of COVID-induced isolation, a period that has “made us terrified” of both the world around us and each other.
She added that the film is nevertheless a story of “metamorphosis” and rebirth, and a meditation on “how fear can be changed into love.” “Who are we today? What defines us? Where are we headed as a species, as human beings? What are we really afraid of? And what can lead to our liberation?” she said.
