Coming to theaters next year on June 18, 2027 is SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE and the first footage from the new film was shown at CinemaCon.
Miles Morales returns for the final chapter of Sony Pictures Animation’s Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga.
Hunted by Miguel O’Hara’s Spider Society and betrayed by his friends, Miles finds himself in the darkest corners of the Spider-Verse in search of a way home. Knowing that his family has been not only fractured but endangered by his calling, it’s a race against the clock for Miles to travel across the wildest reaches of time and space to fight for and reunite everything he holds most dear.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 91st Oscars in 2019. With this win, Peter Ramsey became the first African-American director to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 96th Academy Awards in 2024.
The Hollywood Reporter says of CinemaCon: “As part of Monday night’s presentation, writer-producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller were joined on stage by directors Justin K. Thompson and Bob Persichetti, as Miller promised it was “the most emotional Spider-Verse film we have ever made” and Lord dubbted it the “most spectacular.” They explained that the new film will pick up the moment the last movie, Across the Spider-Verse, ended, with main character Miles Morales lost in an alternate dimension.”

“Lord has reassured fans that they need not worry as all favorite characters will return, along with some new emotional aspects for the teenage hero to explore. And they do. Miles has to deal with a sense of betrayal and turn it into something affirmative, he’s said. “And I think that the thing that we try to do with these movies is represent goodness and show how the love that the characters in the movie have for Miles translates into his growth and success.” Lord, Miller, Persichetti and Thompson introduced the clip of some early footage from the beginning of the movie, still rough, formatted for PLF for the first time. “The Sony Animation team is all about pushing boundaries – that is their super power,” said Lord. – Deadline
