WAMG At PIXAR CANADA
Hey kids! Melissa here with another exciting tale for you. A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to visit Pixar Canada located in the lovely Gastown neighborhood of Vancouver. The studio will be focusing on shorts, such as the Toy Story shorts and Cars shorts that we all love. They were debuting AIR MATER while I was there, which is included as a bonus feature on Cars 2.
Check out this video about Pixar Canada.
While there, I was lucky enough to speak with Rob Gibbs (director of AIR MATER), Dylan Brown (Creative Director, Pixar Canada), Amir Nasrabadi (General Manager, Pixar Canada) and Darwyn Peachy (CTO, Pixar Canada). You will find the video clips below.
Vancouver is absolutely stunning! I was only there for the day, but the landscape is gorgeous. Pixar Canada’s offices are layed out in a way to compliment their surroundings and showcase the beautiful views of Vancouver from their massive windows.
Take a gander at their stunning offices…
Pixar Canada is designed to let in an abundance of natural light. There are many common areas where staff can take a break from their work and relax while taking in the scenery. Or heck, work somewhere other than their personal offices!
There is an abundance of Pixar themed artwork throughout the halls.
Here is the front desk… Notice the maple leaf in their logo.
The offices have a very fun, modern feel.
Here’s our friends Buzz and Woody hanging out in their new home. One thing that really fascinated me was there are printers to make models such as these. Dylan Brown was telling us on the tour that they have printers that make figures, like these. Heck, that sounds more fun than printing out a piece of paper from your computer, huh?
Here’s Mike, from MONSTERS INC. They currently have 3 character sculptures in the building. Mike (Below), Sully (Seen in the first picture) and Bruce (Not pictured) from FINDING NEMO.
Their 30,000 square foot offices currently house 75 staff members, and a third floor is still under construction.
After a tour of the facilities I got the chance to speak with Rob Gibbs (director of AIR MATER), Dylan Brown (Creative Director, Pixar Canada), Amir Nasrabadi (General Manager, Pixar Canada) and Darwyn Peachy (CTO, Pixar Canada).

I have to say, Dylan Brown is a really nice guy! I had a great time talking with him!
Amir Nasrabadi (General Manager, Pixar Canada) & Darwyn Peachy (CTO, Pixar Canada)
The whole day was a great time. I cannot wait to see what they come up with next!
Be sure to check out CARS 2 on Blu-Ray and DVD to see AIR MATER
Until next time… Stay Fancy!
