‘Witchblade’ gets its director … seems right on track!

I’ve only dabbled in the comic book series, but my excuse there is a lack of time to fully dive in. However, I have been a fan of the animated series on the IFC Channel and have been following the development of the live-action feature film that was announced a while back. Now we get news that the film has its director, which seems fitting… Michael Rymer (Battlestar Galactica) will direct and co-produce the feature adaptation. He’s already directed and produced several episodes of the TV series, so its safe to say he’s familiar with the material. ‘Witchblade’ has been a popular storyline that began as a comic book series, then became a live-action TV series, a TV movie and a Japanese animated series.

‘Witchblade’ … Live-Action Movie Adaptation!

Currently in pre-production and a tentative September start date for production, the live-action feature movie adaptation of Witchblade already has its first teaser poster:

Based on the Top Cow Productions comic book, created by Marc Sylvestri and David Wohl, written by Brian Haberlin and Christina Z, and art by Michael Turner. The series tells that tale of a female detective who finds herself host to a powerful and mysterious weapon known as the Witchblade, using its power to fight crime.

The popular comic book series has already spawned a pretty darn good IFC anime series that, while not exactly following the comic book series in detail, still maintains the concept. Michael Rymer is attached to direct, but as of yet we have no word on any casting news.
