Even more stills are coming out for ‘The Wolfman’ remake directed by Joe Johnston.  I guess Universal if finally revving up the marketing, which was their reasoning for pushing the film back again to February 12, 2010.

Universal takes a shot at ‘Asteroids’

asteroids

When you think of the hottest movie options out there, ones being bid on heavily in a battle between four major studios, which option comes to mind? Did you immediately think of the classic Atari game ‘Asteroids’ or where you just as surprised as I was?

Universal Pictures ultimately came out on top in this bidding war, claiming the feature film adaptation rights as their prize. Matthew Lopez will write the screenplay, the story of which could go just about anywhere. In case you’ve forgotten the game, story was not necessarily the driving element in it’s success.

Lopez emerged from Disney’s writing program, having worked on ‘Bedtime Stories’ and ‘Race to Witch Mountain’. He most recently wrote a draft for ‘The Sorcerers Apprentice’. So, I can let him slide on ‘Bedtime Stories’ but, with ‘Race to Witch Mountain’ under his belt, I am not expecting much from this film… actually, I wasn’t expecting much to begin with now that I think about it.

It gets better folks. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing. Yeah, even though it hasn’t hit theaters yet, his most recent project is ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’. Not a good sign, if you ask me. So, if we’re lucky we’ll get to watch 90 minutes of a little spaceship blowing hollow asteroids into skinny white blast lines on the big screen… cross your fingers!

Dante’s Inferno game going to the Big Screen

dantesinferno

Universal Pictures is developing a live-action adaptation of the Electronic Arts video game called Dante’s Inferno for the big screen. Dan Harris (X-Men 2, Superman Returns) has been chosen to write the script, with Mark Abraham and Eric Newman of Strike Entertainment producing.

Dante’s Inferno was the subject of a heated bidding war for film rights between four major studios before the game even had a title. Universal walked away with the goods. The game has players embark on a horrifying journey through the many levels, or circles, of Hell.

Movie match up in Superbowl 43

It seems that this year’s Superbowl could be a lot more interesting than watching two teams fight for the prized trophy. Multiple studios will be airing 30-second T.V. spots  for their biggest movies.

Such high-profile titles that we will see spots for are Paramount’s ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,’ ‘Star Trek’ and ‘G.I. Joe’; Sony’s ‘Angels and Demons’; DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Monsters vs. Aliens’, which will run their ad in 3D; and Universal’s ‘Land of the Lost’ and its fourth installment in ” The Fast and the Furious” franchise. Disney is also planning to use the game to raise the profile for Pixar’s next ‘toon, “Up,” while a “Wolverine” spot is likely from Fox.

With these movie spots NBC is sure to get great numbers in their ratings which is pretty much the point these days in television. Superbowl 43 takes place on February 1st so mark it on your calendars.

‘The Nutty Professor 3’ ????????

Universal Studios is in their early stages of creating a new “Nutty Professor” movie, which  would be the third installment of the remake of the 1963 Jerry Lewis vehicle. An open call is out to writers to take on this new Nutty idea. Although it has been eight years since the last “Nutty” came out, many executives  are under the impression that this new movie would be more a sequel to  “The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps.”

Like “The Nutty Professor,” “Klumps” focused on Sherman Klump, a portly, gentle scientist, played by Eddie Murphy, who turns obnoxious after trying one of his own cures. In the second film, which expanded to include more of Klump’s family members, mostly played by Murphy.   As of right now Eddie Murphy has not been signed on to play th lovable family but since the movies have always done well their is no reason why he will not get the call.
