Hitting theaters on May 26 is the upcoming comedy THE MACHINE.

Set 23 years after the original story which inspired it, The Machine finds Bert Kreischer facing familial crisis and the arrival of his estranged father (Mark Hamill) when the ghost of his booze-soaked past arrives: a murderous mobster (Iva Babić) hellbent on kidnapping Bert back to the motherland to atone for his crimes. Together, he and his father must retrace the steps of his younger self (Jimmy Tatro) in the midst of a war between a sociopathic crime family while they attempt to find common ground.

THE MACHINE is directed by Peter Atencio, with a screenplay by Kevin Biegel and Scotty Landes.

While serving as the director and executive producer of the hit sketch comedy tv series Key & Peele, Atencio was nominated for three prime-time Emmy awards, winning one for Best Variety Sketch series in 2016. He was nominated for an NAACP Image Award and won a Peabody Award and an American Comedy Award for best TV director for his work on the show.

After ending the series, Atencio transitioned with stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele to the world of feature films with 2016’s KEANU, an action comedy for Warner Bros. Next, he directed the Amazon Studios original series Jean-Claude Van Johnson, along with fellow executive producers Ridley Scott and creator Dave Callaham. He then transitioned to international television work, relocating to Prague to direct and showrun the action drama Whiskey Cavalier for Bill Lawrence’s Doozer Productions and Warner Bros. television. The show aired on ABC in the United States and internationally in over 60 countries. Atencio also directed an episode of Jordan’s Peele’s The Twilight Zone for CBS / Paramount Plus starring Ethan Embry and Billy Porter entitled “The Who of You.”

Vin Diesel To Produce And Star In THE MACHINE for MGM

LOS ANGELES, CA – May 19, 2011 – MGM announced today that Vin Diesel will star in and also produce through his One Race Films, the action-comedy THE MACHINE, based on an original script by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: BATTLE FOR THE SMITHSONIAN, THE PACIFIER), who are also producing. Production is scheduled to start in the fall.

Vin Diesel stars as a human-like machine created in secrecy by the Pentagon as the world’s first true ultimate weapon. Twenty years after the project was buried and decommissioned for reasons unknown, The Machine is discovered by a kid who befriends him. When the government learns it has been reactivated, the Machine must protect the family harboring him.

MGM’s Jonathan Glickman, President of the Motion Picture Group, says “We could not be happier to be partnering with Vin again, especially on a film with such classic themes that will appeal to his broad audience around the world.” Adam Rosenberg, Senior Vice President for the MGM Motion Picture Group, is supervising the film for the studio.
