THE DOORS: BREAK ON THRU – A CELEBRATION OF RAY MANZAREK Screens at The Tivoli Theatre in St. Louis February 12th

THE DOORS: BREAK ON THRU – A CELEBRATION OF RAY MANZAREK Screens at Tivoli Theatre February 12th at 7pm. Ticket information can be found HERE. A Facebook invite for the event can be found HERE

The Doors: Break on Thru – A Celebration of Ray Manzarek is a hybrid concert and documentary capturing a 2016 performance in Los Angeles by surviving Doors members John Densmore and Robby Krieger to honor fellow Doors member Ray Manzarek on what would have been his birthday on February 12. The Doors were born when Ray Manzarek met Jim Morrison on Venice Beach in 1965. Ray became the beating heart of The Doors and the architect of their intoxicating keyboard sound. Manzarek’s evocative playing fused rock, jazz, blues, bossa nova and an array of other styles into something utterly, dazzlingly new. The setlist from the concert consists of Doors songs performed by John and Robby alongside a cast of all-star guest musicians including Taylor Hawkins and Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters), Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots), Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction), Exene and John Doe (X), Warren Haynes (Gov’t Mule), Brian Ray (Paul McCartney), Andrew Watt and more. The film also includes rare archival footage of the band, conversations with Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek, and esteemed music journalist Ben Fong-Torres, as well as new interviews with John and Robby. Note: This screening contains a sequence of flashing lights which might affect customers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.

Robby Krieger, John Densmore, Taylor Hawkins, Robert DeLeo, Stephen Perkins, John Doe, Exene Cervenka, Warren Haynes, Rami Jaffee and is directed by Justin Kruetzmann

Ever wonder how the legendary CBGB came to be? In the new film, appropriately titled CBGB, director Randall Miller and co-writer Jody Savin give audiences a glimpse into the world that Hilly Kristal built… a little bar that became the birthplace of American punk music.

Recently, WAMG attended a press day for the film at the famous WHISKY A GO GO in West Hollywood, CA. Participating in the press conference were Johnny Galecki (Terry Ork), Freddy Rodriguez (Idaho), Joel David Moore (Joey Ramone), Director/Co-Writer Randy Miller, and Co-Writer Jody Savin. Check it out below. (Side note: Sorry if it is a bit shaky. I was trying out my new camera.)

CBGB looks at New York’s dynamic punk rock scene through the lens of the ground-breaking Lower East Side club started by eccentric Hilly Kristal in 1973 originally as a home for “country, bluegrass and blues” (thus the club’s name) and which showcased cutting-edge bands through its closing in 2006. The Talking Heads, Patti Smith, The Ramones, Blondie, The Dead Boys, Bad Brains, Green Day, Soul Asylum, The Police, Bruce Springsteen, Everclear, George Thorogood, The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, The Black Crowes, The Flaming Lips, The Goo Goo Dolls, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The B-52s, The Runaways, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Tool and The Wallflowers are just some of the thousands of bands that played the club over the years.

The film stars Alan Rickman, Malin Akerman, Justin Bartha, Richard de Klerk, Johnny Galecki, Ashley Greene, Rupert Grint, Taylor Hawkins, Stana Katic, Donal Logue, Joel David Moore, Freddy Rodriguez, Mickey Sumner and Bradley Whitford. Randall Miller directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Jody Savin.

Not only is it being screened at this years SXSW Festival, but they are bringing it to over 80 theaters across the US for one night only, APRIL 5th. Not only do fans get a night of FOO-TASTIC movie magic, but they also get to view a special live performance of their new album WASTING LIGHT… the entire way through… a week before it’s release!

FOO FIGHTERS FILM + FOO FIGHTERS PERFORMANCE  = AWAZING!!! (For those of you that don’t speak Melissa, AWAZING is the combination of something that is both AWESOME and AMAZING!)

Here is a little treat for you… ROPE, the firs.t single from the FOO FIGHTERS new album WASTING LIGHT

SYNOPSIS:

James Moll’s documentary film will chronicle the 16 year history of the Foo Fighters: from the band’s very first songs created as cassette demos Grohl recorded during his tenure as Nirvana’s drummer through its ascent to their Grammy-winning, multi-platinum, arena and stadium headlining status as one of the biggest rock bands on the planet. This chronicling of the Foo Fighters’ triumphs and tragedies will culminate in an in-depth behind the scenes perspective on the making of the new album: a process in which the band pushed itself forward by going fully back to basics and recording in Grohl’s garage completely on analog tape. No computers, no software – just a band recording an album to tape in a garage. The new record also marks the Foos’ first full-length effort with legendary producer Butch Vig, with whom Grohl worked on Nirvana’s classic album Nevermind. Former Nirvana member Krist Novoselic will also return along with other surprise guest artists.
