MACGRUBER Red-Band Trailer Explodes

The question of whether the 30-second MacGruber skits on SNL can translate to the big screen or not is one step closer, as Rogue Pictures released the trailer for MACGRUBER today.   My money is betting on “No,” and, after watching this trailer, which you can view right now over at Rogue’s official site, that “Yes” isn’t making itself any more evident.

The first half of this trailer is completely devoid of laughs, and then the red-band-ness of it all kicks in, and there are a couple of chuckles here and there.   It still isn’t selling it for me, and I couldn’t help but notice even with this being red-band there is still some obvious dubbing going on here.

What the f*@% is up with that?

Nevertheless, anything with Powers Boothe and Val Kilmer is win enough to get my hard-earned cash.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Only one American hero has earned the rank of Green Beret, Navy SEAL and Army Ranger.   Just one operative has been awarded 16 Purple Hearts, 3 Congressional Medals of Honor and 7 Presidential Medals of Bravery.   And only one guy is man enough to still sport a mullet.   In 2010, Will Forte brings Saturday Night Live’s clueless soldier of fortune to the big screen in the action comedy of MACGRUBER.

Weaver Hosts SNL & AVATAR B.O. Numbers

TITANIC is about to  hit that iceberg  once again,  only this time it’ll be Na’vi  blue.

From the Associated Press:

James Cameron’s “Avatar” had a $41.3 million weekend to shoot past “Star Wars” as the No. 3 movie on the all-time domestic box office charts. Next stop, “The Dark Knight.” No. 1 for the fifth-straight weekend, Cameron’s sci-fi saga raised its domestic total to $491.8 million and should top $500 million after revenues are counted on Martin Luther King Day, according to studio estimates Sunday. Worldwide, 20th Century Fox’s “Avatar” lifted its total to $1.6 billion, second only to Cameron’s last movie, 1997’s “Titanic,” at $1.8 billion.

So there you have it. James Cameron will be the greatest film ruler of all time.

SNL jumped on the AVATAR bandwagon by having Sigourney Weaver as this week’s host. The skit below, ala HULU,  uproariously invoked all things Cameron….ALIENS, TITANIC, TERMINATOR. Enjoy!

The ‘MacGruber’ film has begun filming in Albuquerque, and JustJared was on hand to snap up some set pics.   The scenes being shot feature Will Forte as the title character, Kristen Wiig as Vicki, MacGruber’s assistant, and Ryan Phillippe as an as-yet named character.

While this looks like it’s going to be another in a long line of SNL skits stretched to 90-minute mind-melts, there is hope for the film, yet.   It’s boasting an R rating and bringing Val Kilmer on board as the villain is always going to be considered a plus in our book.

‘MacGruber’ is set for release on April 16th, 2010.

From Deadline Hollywood Daily:

Official Paramount figures for Star Trek’s North American grosses: Thursday Pre-Midnight $4M, Friday $26.8M, Saturday $27.4M, Sunday estimate $18.3M (…Apparently, Paramount’s $3M previously attributed to Thursday’s 7 PM-Midnight screenings were moved to Friday’s take, which isn’t kosher in reporting box office.) Friday-Sunday $72.5M Total Opening $76.5M

It opened to huge numbers, but have a look at SNL’s hilarious  take on all the Star Trek hoopla:
