Entertainment Weekly revealed a brand new partnership with Marvel and legendary comic creator Rob Liefeld to launch a brand new Comic Series, Major X. (https://ew.com/books/2019/01/18/deadpool-creators-new-x-men-character)

The new Marvel published Comic is a brand new X-character event from the creator of Deadpool, Cable, X-Force, and Domino, that recalls the 90’s era art and storytelling that Liefeld made so popular. It is a 6 part event mini-series, shipping twice a month from April to June scripted and drawn by Liefeld with additional art from Whilce Portacio (X-Men, Image Comics) and newcomer Brent Peebles (Teen Titans), in his Marvel debut. It introduces never before seen conflicts and whole new world of characters in a realm called the X-istence alongside already long established characters like Cable and Wolverine.

“To me, the X-Men have always thrived on big ideas, crazy ideas,” Liefeld said in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly. “Major X introduces a new character who is certain to mix up everything in the X-world. He hails from another existence, which is called the ‘X-istence’ — a mutant Shangri-La, a safe haven that has been a realm where mutant kind has lived in peace and harmony. They escaped there following a tragedy that befell mutant kind, and built this community…but then a terrible event happens within the X-istence that causes Major X to cross over and land in the Marvel Universe that we know.”

C.B. Cebulski, Editor-in-Chief of Marvel, said “I still remember when Rob made his Marvel debut, and the impact his art and storytelling had on comics. The energy and enthusiasm Rob brings to comics and every page he draws is still felt to this day, and it’s a joy to have him return to his roots with the X-Men. Rob may have started developing these X-ideas 30 years ago, but his story will leave an indelible mark on our modern mutants!”

The mystery of MAJOR X begins this April. Head to Marvel.com for more information.

Studio 8 Secures Rights To Rob Liefeld’s Image Comics Character, PROPHET

Studio 8 has secured the rights to Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld’s Image Comics character, Prophet.

Studio 8 plans to build a franchise around title character, John Prophet, a DNA enhanced super-soldier placed into a cryogenic freeze for a future mission only to awaken in the wrong time (current time) searching for a mission that does not exist. Pitched as very much the anti-Captain America across the board. He’s a ruthless berserker that must find his humanity.

Liefeld, Adrian Askarieh (HITMAN, HITMAN: AGENT 47) and Brooklyn Weaver (RUN ALL NIGHT, OUT OF THE FURNACE) will produce.

Prophet exploded out of the pages of another Liefeld best seller, Youngblood, catching fire with fans, John Prophet was awarded his own popular showcase, launching a series of his own in 1993! Prophet achieved critical acclaim as well as crossing over for an historic team up with Liefeld’s popular Marvel creation, Cable in a definitive storyline.

Known for his irreverent and edgy style, Liefeld is one of the most iconic comic artists of all time, having created over 150 characters. His most notable characters Marvel’s DeadpoolCableDomino and X-Force are currently on the big screen played by Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz in DEADPOOL 2. The DEADPOOL film franchise has made over 1.5 billion dollars in just 2 movies. Marvel’s X-FORCE, is also being developed into a film at FOX, written and to be directed by Drew Goddard. Liefeld signed a rights deal with Netflix in March 2018.

John Hyde and Terissa Kelton will also be involved in the project. John Graham & Guy Danella are overseeing for Studio 8.

Liefeld is represented by WME, Energy Entertainment and Attorney Greg Gellman. Adrian Askarieh is represented by attorney Peter Grossman. Brooklyn Weaver is represented by Jeff Frankel and Scott Whitehead.

Studio 8’s recent acquisitions include BLACKCHAMPIONHYPNOTIC, and PLANET KILL.

Studio 8’s first two international releases come this summer with ALPHA (August 17, 2018) and WHITE BOY RICK (September 14, 2018) with Yann Demange directing, and John Lesher and Scott Franklin producing. Next up for Studio 8 is Graham Moore’s NAKED IS THE BEST DISGUISE which has been fast-tracked for production later this year.

Brett Ratner Signs on For ‘Youngblood’

Okay, I know what you were thinking when you read the headline. Â  Oh my, God, Ratner is going to put together a remake of the ’86, hockey drama starring Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze. Â  No such luck. Â  The Ratster is actually going to be directing an adaptation of the Image comic ‘Youngblood’.

‘Youngblood’, which began in 1992, is about a secret band of super heroes overseen by the government. Â  Creator Rob Liefeld wanted to create a comic about super heroes living in the “real world” where they would be treated like athletes or movie stars.

“Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and ‘Youngblood’ is one of the few comic books left with tent pole potential,† Ratner told Daily Variety. “It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted (‘Youngblood’), but the amazing thing about the guys at Reliance is the speed with which they’re able to move.†

The Reliance that Ratner is talking about is Reliance Big Entertainment, an  Indian media conglom who  inked a development deal with Ratner’s shingle Rat Entertainment, as well as Julia Roberts’ Red Om Films, during the Berlin film fest.

“The great thing with Reliance is they also have the ability to partner up or co-finance the film with a studio,† added Ratner. “It really offers freedom for the talent they’re working with.†

So, what do you think? Â  Is Ratner going to ruin this comic adaptation like so many believed he did with ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’? Â  Is ‘Youngblood’ too much of a “been-there-done-that” storyline to really get a following? Â  Were Ratner to have remade the Lowe/Swayze ‘Youngblood’, who could have possibly filled those two actors’ shoes? Â  Let us know by commenting below!
