PLANET OF THE APES comes to life as National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA), entertainment conglomerate and global leader in licensed consumer goods, partners with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products for a new merchandise program based on the beloved franchise, which is set to include new products based on the upcoming film DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES as well as the classic movies.

Available summer 2014, the program will include a wide assortment of collectible products designed to excite audiences of all ages such as action figures, giftware, apparel, accessories and more.

The new product lines will be made available to coincide with the release of DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, and will incorporate characters and elements from both the classic movies as well as the newest installment. Items will feature fan-favorite characters Caesar, Koba, Maurice, Cornelius and the rest of the world’s most well-known primates.

“NECA truly has the expertise in bringing to life a product line, translating movie characters into collectibles and tapping into the core audience’s needs,” said Roz Nowicki, executive vice president of global sales and retail at Fox Consumer Products. “Created to include products from the classic movie and the newest movie in the iconic franchise, this merchandise program has something to excite and engage fans and moviegoers around the world.”

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is the follow-up to RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, which opened theatrically during the summer of 2011 and grossed nearly half a billion dollars worldwide. A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

The film hits theaters nationwide on July 11, 2014.

“Monsters in the Movies” At AMPAS

How fabulous does this sound? When I think the Academy I naturally think monsters (mock laughter). Just kidding! Hey, I’m a movie geek. But really, doesn’t this creature-fest sound like a great, scary time?

Academy Does the Monster Mash

Beverly Hills, CA (October 6, 2010) — The evolution of creature technology and the fundamental role technology plays in shaping monster movies will be explored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in MONSTERS IN THE MOVIES on Thursday, October 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The evening, presented by the Academy’s Science and Technology Council and hosted by special effects makeup artist and on-set animatronic effects supervisor Shane Mahan, will include an onstage conversation with industry experts on the technical design of such creatures as King Kong, the Gill Man and a London werewolf.

Film clips will trace the evolution of creature technology, from KING KONG (1933), BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935), CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (1954), HORROR OF DRACULA (1958), ONE MILLION YEARS B.C. (1966), PLANET OF THE APES (1968), THE EXORCIST (1973), AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (1981) and ALIENS (1986) through the digital age of JURASSIC PARK (1993), ZATHURA: A SPACE ADVENTURE (2005) and KING KONG (2005).

Complementing the clips and discussion will be a lobby display of artifacts used to create visual effects for a range of aliens and creatures from classic and contemporary monster movies.

More Monkeying Around

I was one happy human to read that we’re going to get another helping of APES from 20th Century Fox. It all stems from the script CAESAR from writer Scott Frank (OUT OF SIGHT, THE LOOKOUT) which lays out the story on how those damn dirty apes came to rule the world. According to New York/VULTURE’s exclusive report, not only are they rebooting the franchise again, under a new producer, former NewsCorp. chief-turned-producer, Peter Chernin,   but…..

….that Fox has hired writer Jamie Moss (Street Kings) to rework Frank’s version, and the original writers, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (The Relic, The Hand that Rocks the Cradle), were recently brought back to polish the dialogue….The studio wants to make the CAESAR project, post haste. A director is expected to be hired imminently.

It article furthers mentions that the “Caesar” code name also:

…foreshadowed the script’s plot: Just as the actual Julius Caesar set Rome on the path to the Roman Empire, the experimental ape’s escape sets in motion his fellow hirsute hominids (wait for it!) guerrilla war and subsequent dominance.

HA. I love it! Being a huge fan of the PLANET OF THE APES franchise, I’m extremely excited about the prospects of the next film. Hopefully we’ll have more news to pass along shortly.

Are you ready for another ‘Planet of the Apes’?

Alright so Planet of the Apes was not so much of a hit when it was released but that is not stopping this franchise from making a comeback. So get ready cause this new installment is not a sequel to the previous Burton film but is rather a REMAKE of the Conquest of the Apes. This movie will focus on Caesar , the ape who said no, the first ape with speech who started the events that led to a world where monkeys were on top and humans were dumb beasts. Now I’m sure that this idea will be implemented great because they have announced that the script was written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and they have been calling this new script Genesis: Apes. So I have never been a huge fan of Planet of the Apes and to really be honest  I have never  seen a single movie but hearing about this gets me a little interested.
