Listen To Tracks From Benjamin Wallfisch’s IT Movie

WaterTower Music today announced the release details of the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for New Line Cinema’s highly anticipated IT, the movie based on the iconic Stephen King novel of the same name which has been terrifying and thrilling readers for decades. Double CD and Digital versions of the album will be released worldwide on September 8, the same day the film opens in theaters. Special vinyl picture disc and double vinyl versions arrive just in time for Halloween, on October 27.

Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Benjamin Wallfisch (A Cure for WellnessLights Out, Annabelle: Creation), widely acknowledged as one of Hollywood’s most exciting and innovative composers, has assembled a thrillingly unsettling 38-track Original Soundtrack for IT with a palpable spirit of suspense, adventure and anarchy, using powerful themes, a full symphony orchestra and children’s choir.

“Every now and again, you come across a movie where the storytelling is so powerful, the subtext so visceral, the synergy between director, narrative and actors so palpable, that as a composer you can feel the music being energized by something so much bigger than what’s just on the screen,” Wallfisch said. “Creating a score to tell the story of a shapeshifting antagonist of unimaginable evil that can only be defeated when a group of individuals come together as one, required metamorphic themes, extremes of sonic irreverence and heartfelt quiet, and, most importantly, a musical language that strived to be constantly informed by the profound emotional truth driving the heartbeat of the filmmaking. To collaborate with Andy Muschietti on IT was to be invited into a thrilling, deeply inspiring and richly creative dynamic space. It was a true honor, and, as a lifelong Stephen King fan, a great privilege.”

The 38-track IT soundtrack will be available on September 8.

The 18-track IT soundtrack on vinyl picture disc, and the 29-track regular and limited-edition color double vinyl set will be available on October 27.

New Line Cinema’s horror thriller IT was directed by Andy Muschietti (Mama), and is based on the hugely popular Stephen King novel of the same name.

The film tells the story of seven young outcasts growing up in the township of Derry, Maine, who call themselves the Losers’ Club.  Each of them has been ostracized for one reason or another; each has a target on their back from the local pack of bullies…and all have seen their inner fears come to life in the form of an ancient shapeshifting predator they can only call It.  For as long as their town has existed, Derry has been the entity’s hunting ground, emerging from the sewers every 27 years to feed on the terrors of its chosen prey: Derry’s children.  Banding together over one horrifying and exhilarating summer, the Losers form a close bond to help them overcome their own fears and stop a new killing cycle that began on a rainy day, with a small boy chasing a paper boat as it swept down a storm drain…and into the hands of Pennywise the Clown.

The film stars Bill Skarsgård as the story’s central villain, Pennywise. An ensemble of young actors also star in the film, including Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, Nicholas Hamilton and Jackson Robert Scott.

Muschietti directed IT from a screenplay by Chase Palmer & Cary Fukunaga and Gary Dauberman, based on the novel by King. Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Seth Grahame-Smith, David Katzenberg and Barbara Muschietti are the producers, with Dave Neustadter, Walter Hamada, Richard Brener, Toby Emmerich, Marty P. Ewing, Doug Davison, Jon Silk and Niija Kuykendall serving as executive producers.

New Line Cinema presents a Vertigo Entertainment/Lin Pictures/Katzsmith Production, IT.  Opening on September 8, 2017, the film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Entertainment Company. This film has been rated R for violence/horror, bloody images, and for language.

“Let go. Be afraid. You all taste so much better when you’re afraid.” – It.

Winter of 1990 and ABC showed a miniseries that scared the living daylights out of viewers with it images of clowns and balloons. These were the days of VCR’s and cassette tapes, when DVR’s and Blu-ray weren’t even thought of yet.

The miniseries IT was true water-cooler banter for the next morning. Starring Richard Thomas, Tim Reid, Annette O’Toole, Richard Masur, Dennis Christopher, Harry Anderson and Tim Curry, it was based on the novel by Stephen King.

In 1960, seven pre-teen outcasts fight an evil demon who poses as a child-killing clown. Thirty years later, they reunite to stop the demon once and for all when it returns to their hometown.

The 2-parter won awards including an Emmy for it’s super creepy score – Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition for a Miniseries or a Special (Dramatic Underscore) – Richard Bellis (composer) for part I, as well as an Eddie for Robert F. Shugrue and
David Blangsted from the American Cinema Editors.

It was truly the stuff of nightmares those dark and cold November nights of 1990.

‘It’ Remake to be R-Rated

pennywise

Word and news about the ‘It’ remake is coming fast and furious.   In fact, you can go right here and nominate your own candidates for who should be playing Pennywise the clown.   Whoever does end up donning the clown makeup will have to brush up on their vulgarity, seeing as how ‘It’ will be rated R assuming WB is telling the screenwriter on the film the truth.

Dread Central caught up with Dave Kajganich, who is filling script writing duties on the film, and here is what he had to say about his vision on the remake.

“The remake will be set in the mid-1980s and in the present almost equally — mirroring the twenty-odd-year gap King uses in the book — and with a *great* deal of care and attention paid to the backstories of all the characters.”

“I think the real twist here is that my pitch to WB — which they’ve assured me they’re on board for — is that this will not be PG-13. This will be R. Which means we can really honor the book and engage with the traumas (both the paranormal ones and those they deal with at home and school) that these character endure.”

“I plan to be very protective of the book.   The reality, though, is that WB wants to do this as a single film, so I will have to kill a few darlings to make that happen. You have my promise, though, that I will do this with the utmost humility and respect for King’s work. He’s the King, after all, and I intend to continue to pledge to him my allegiance.”

So, there you have it, straight from the screenwriter’s mouth.   ‘It’ will be rated R.   Judging by what Kajganich had to say above and knowing the novel pretty well, this could easily be one scary-as-hell horror film.

Fantasy Cast… Who should play Pennywise in ‘IT’ remake?

fantasycast

We all remember the scary as Hell alien-monster clown Pennywise from Stephen King’s book ‘IT’ or, at least from the television mini-series adaptation. For my money, Tim Curry’s performance as Pennywise is spot on and couldn’t be more perfect.

We recently announced that a feature adaptation for the big screen will be made of the best-selling novel by Stephen King. So, has us pondering the question of who best to cast in the role of Pennywise?

Sure, many of you will likely default directly to Tim Curry, much like myself, but given the recent trends this seems highly unlikely. With that said, who then? Now we’re placing the ball in your court.   Who do you think would make an ideal Pennywise?

Also, if you’ve got ideas for future Fantasy Casts, let us know.   Our emails can be found right here!

Some ideas that initially come to mind include:

Sid Haig – Sure, I’m relatively new to the fandom of Sid Haig and his portrayal of Captain Spaulding, but how great was he as a freaky scary clown? Of course, for this roles he’s have to clean up the appearance… oh yeah, and probably shave the beard. Not sure that’s gonna happen.

John Leguizamo – He made an awesome crazy demonic clown as one of the few good parts   from the live-action ‘Spawn’ movie. Not sure he’s really right for this role, but we know he has this type of character in him. Johnny boy can certainly turn on the eccentric/crazy switch with the flip of a switch.

Peter Stormare – The Swedish-born actor may not come to mind as someone who can portray the same outgoing manifestation of creepy that Curry gave us, but don’t right him off just yet. Stormare can still deliver a low-key “silent type” creepy that’s very effective (Fargo) and he certainly has the look to match Curry’s portrayal fairly well. He did also sort of tackle the “clown” bit in ’13 Moons’.

Alan Rickman – This British actor may not come immediately to mind, but he does have a knack for creepy character acting. The actor has become known for his role as Snape in the ‘Harry Potter’ series and even played a real-life creepy dude, Rasputin himself. He certainly wouldn’t be my first choice, but I think if he could offer a unique perspective on the role.

Willem Dafoe – Not typically considered an actor for “creepy” roles, he is still known for his off-beat, eccentric performances. Combine this with his signature facial characteristics and his creative body language and I think the Green Goblin could deliver a decent Pennywise.

Pennywise is coming to the Big Screen!

pennywise

Some BIG news here for fans of Stephen King… not so good for those who suffer coulrophobia (that’s the fear of clowns). Warner Bros is developing a big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s beloved best-selling horror novel It. Dave Kajganich (The Invasion) has been brought on to write the screenplay.

While the TV mini-series wasn’t “perfect” it was a great telling of the story. King’s novels, especially his older/longer novels, I feel work better as mini-series because with more screen time than a typical feature film, more of the story makes the cut. So, it’ll be interesting to see how this version works, or doesn’t?

For those of you who HAVEN’T read the book, or at least seen the TV mini-series, here’s the breakdown:

…follows a group of kids called the Losers Club that encounter a creature called It, which preys on children and whose favorite form is that of a sadistic clown called Pennywise. When the creature resurfaces, the kids are called upon to regroup again, this time as adults, even though they have no memory of the first battle. — HR

The novel takes place during two eras, 1958 and 1985, which chronicles the central characters’ experience with Pennywise the Clown as children and again as adults. Apparently, the new feature adaptation will take place in modern day. Not sure what this means about the childhood back story… whether it will be cut or not. The TV mini-series starred John Ritter, Harry Anderson and Annette O’Toole.

However, the truly golden part of the mini-series was Tim Curry as Pennywise! So, this begs the question… who plays Pennywise in the feature adaptation? Sure, we could easily say Tim Curry, but come on… we all know that’s not going to happen. After all, Robert Englund isn’t playing Freddy Krueger in that remake. One thing’s for sure, they sure as Hell better not go full CGI!
