‘Benjamin Button’ Early Reviews

Tom O’Neil over at Gold Derby has posted the early reviews from  Saturday’s screening of ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ at the Paramount Theatre in LA.

Among the Oscar bloggers, Dave Karger of Entertainment Weekly says, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” is “an Oscar movie with a capital O…”

Kris Tapley of In Contention says, “Nominations for Picture, Director, Actress, Adapted Screenplay, Art Direction, Cinematography, Film Editing, Makeup, Original Score and Visual Effects are virtually assured.”

Sasha Stone of Awards Daily says flat out “if I had to name the film that would probably have the best shot at winning Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Costumes, Art Direction it would be this one.”

One things for sure…the clock is ticking and the studios need to get their movies out. The National Board of Review, the Globes, and the BFCA are just around the corner. Definitely one of the weirdest Oscar seasons ever. Does ‘Doubt’ have a better chance at a nom over ‘Revolutionary Road’? Is ‘Australia’ a better contender than ‘The Dark Knight’?   The sure locks in the Oscar race right now? Benjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire. This year’s  most chilling aspect for us awards kooks is what  the LA Times reported Sunday,  “Guild leaders are expected to time any walkout to disrupt the Golden Globe Awards and Academy Awards — in January and February, respectively.” What?!?!?! Again?!!?!? Oh the agony!!

Oscar Buzz at Toronto 2008

Coming out of Telluride, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ (this year’s ‘Juno’) is just one of  a handful of films generating alot of Oscar buzz at Toronto. EW’s Oscar expert Dave Karger, along with Missy Schwartz,  have posted  the 1st of many  lightning round videos on the movies that are all the rage at this year’s festival. Although a funny movie, looks like ‘Burn After Reading’ won’t be invited to the Academy’s party. Click here to watch  and hear Anne Hathaway and  Oscar used in the same breath…shocking!
