More have signed on for ’13’

Well, here comes another remake, but a french one. Based on the 2005 version,  ’13 Tzameti’ is coming to the United States. Other than the six new actors the  film will be written and directed by Gela Babluani, who also wrote and directed the French version. The new actors that have joined the project are Mickey Rourke, Ray Winstone, Jason Statham, Sam Riley, 50 Cent and Ray Liotta. Now, I don’t know about you, but that is a pretty dynamic cast and I’m looking forward to this high pace thriller.

Hollywood Remake Machine Hits ’13 Tzameti’

Paramount Vantage is handling distribution on the English-language remake of  Gà ©la Babluani’s thriller, ’13 Tzameti’.   Babluani will be writing and directing the remake, and production begins in New York on November 17.   The kickass cast to the remake includes Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, 50 Cent, and Sam Rockwell.

The film follows a man who steals a mysterious package that he feels will lead him to immense wealth. Â  What he finds is an underground game where men murder one another to come out as the sole survivor. Â  The film is really suspenseful and atmospheric and would probably benefit from a decent-sized, American remake.

Like Michael Haneke writing and directing an American remake to ‘Funny Games’, I don’t have a problem with a filmmaker wanting to redo his film for a different country’s audience. Â  I, for one, am looking forward to seeing what the American version of ’13 Tzameti’ has to offer.

‘The Wrestler’ looks awesome …

When I first heard about  Darren Aronofsky making a movie about a washed up wrestler I immediately thought it would be about Rick Flair or Hulk Hogan. To my surprise I found out it was about a fictional character played by Mickey Rourke! So it immediately brought back all of the memories of 80’s wrestling, and all of the superstars from back in the day. Here is the synopsis:

Randy “Ram” Robinson (Mickey Rourke) is a  professional wrestler  from the 1980s who is forced to retire after a heart attack threatens to kill him the next time he wrestles. He takes a job at a deli, moves in with an aging stripper (Marisa Tomei) and attempts to form a relationship with her son. However, he is drawn to the prospect of a rematch with his old wrestling nemesis the  Ayatollah  (Ernest Miller), even though the fight may cost him his life

This movie has been cleaning up on the festival circuit, and everyone is buzzing about it. The movie doesnt have an official release date yet, but they did just sign a distribution deal so look for it soon. The movie also just took home the  Golden Lion award in Venice this passed week.

‘The Wrestler’ tells the story of a past-his-prime professional wrestler who is trying to make one last run on the independent circuit.   It is basically Aronofsky making ‘Rocky’ for the pro wrestling world.   Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood co-star.

The film will make its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.

‘Killshot’ When will this be released?

Seriously, This has gone too far and I have been waiting too long for this movie to be released. I saw the trailer when I bought Lucky Number Slevin on dvd and it looked amazing. Executive Produced by Quentin Tarantino, this is bound to be great. This movie also is well casted with Diane Lane,Mickey Rourke,Rosario Dawson,Johnny Knoxville,Joseph Gordon Leavitt, and Thomas Jane. Apparently this was also filmed here in Cape Girardeau, Missouri which is pretty exciting for all us STL moviegeeks.

Synopsis: Prime Suspect 4 and Inspector Morse director John Madden comes back to the world of crime after a brief foray into romance with Shakespeare in Love and Captain Corelli’s Mandolin with this adaptation of pulp icon Elmore Leonard’s novel concerning a real estate agent and her husband (Thomas Jane) who become the targets of two relentless mafia hitmen. When real estate agent Carmen Colson (Diane Lane) catches a glimpse of a hitman named the Blackbird (Mickey Rourke) as he carries out a job, a subsequent request for her to testify against the aging gun for hire soon lands both Carmen and her husband, Wayne (Thomas Jane), in the Witness Protection Program. Blackbird isn’t a man who likes to leave loose ends when it comes to his work, though, and now as the seasoned assassin and his psychotic partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) attempt to catch the couple in their crosshairs, Carmen and Wayne are going to need much more than a few federal agents to make it out of increasingly deadly situation alive. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
