Schwarzenegger will be in ‘The Expendables’!

stallone-schwarzenegger

Stallone and Schwarzenegger will finally be on the big screen together. Â  Ain’t it Cool News just received word from a “reliable” source (*cough* Stallone himself *cough*) that Schwarzenegger would be appearing in ‘The Expendables’ as himself, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The character will appear in the film, because  it seems that the Governor and Sly’s character Barney Ross have some history back when Arnold was shooting ‘Conan the Barbarian’.

AICN was also able to wrangle a little more news out of their source. Â  Ben Kingsley is out as the film’s villain and Eric Roberts is in. Â  Also, I guess it wasn’t official until now, but Mickey Rourke has officially signed on for the film.

This is great news all around. Â  It was awesome enough to know that Stallone, Jason Statham, and Jet Lie were doing an action movie together. Â  Then Rourke came on board. Â  Now Schwarzenegger and Eric Roberts, the Roberts sibling with more talent, if you ask me, are also showing up.

This film cannot get made soon enough. Â  In a perfect world, this film would already have made more than ‘Titanic’ in pre-sales.

Mickey Rourke on Fire, will Star in ‘St. Vincent’

Here’s the most popular scenario in Hollywood big shot studio executive offices…

Exec #1: “Hey, we’ve got this great new script, but we can’t figure out who to cast.”
Exec #2: “Oh, have I got the guy for you!”
Exec #1: “Really? Who?”
Exec #2: “Mickey Rourke!”
Exec #1: “Yeah, he’s perfect!”

Oh, fine… don’t get the wrong idea. I love Mickey and I’m absolutely thrilled he’s making a huge comeback, but it amazes me at the number of projects he’s suddenly being offered. The newest in this unbelievable string of castings is that Rourke will star in ‘St. Vincent’, written by Cameron Young and directed by Walter Hill (Johnny Handsome).

He’ll play a hit man who returns to New York to complete a botched hit. Masquerading as a priest, he finds himself hearing the confession of the man who he is targeting. — HR

Downey comments on Rourke’s status with ‘Iron Man 2’

mickeyrourke

So, what’s the biggest Marvel movie rumor being thrown about right now… it’s that Mickey Rourke will play Crimson Dynamo in ‘Iron Man 2’. The problem with rumors is that you never really know for sure how much of it is true, or if it’s just a bald-faced load of crap!

Fortunately, we sometimes get clues from those involved that help us sort out fact from fiction. MTV News spoke with Robert Downey Jr on the set of ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and asked him about this very subject.

While Downey disputed the claim that Rourke would play Crimson Dynamo in the ‘Iron Man’ sequel, when asked about the alternate version of the rumor suggesting that he would play Whiplash, Downey was less forth-coming.

“I can neither confirm nor deny that,† said Downey. “Or maybe it’s some semblance of both. Here, I can tell you everything about the story except I won’t give away the ending. The nerd stuff is top-drawer security.†

So, there it is… take it for what it’s worth.

Mickey Rourke takes on ‘Broken Horses’

Indian writer/director Vidhu Vinod Chopra will make his Hollywood feature-film debut with a gangster film called ‘Broken Horses’. The picture will be shot in New Mexico and New York, written by Abhijat Joshi and produced by Mark Johnson (Chronicles of Narnia). Mickey Rourke is set to star in this film, which is just one of many projects and offers that have come Rourke’s way since his incredible come-back performance in ‘The Wrestler’.

“I was bowled over by his performance,” Chopra said. “Both of us had an instant connect when we met in Los Angeles. He was my first choice and was finalized even before he won the Golden Globe; it’s great to have him on board for one of the key roles in the film. Mickey deserves all the acclaim he is getting and I hope he wins the Oscar as well.”

Mickey Rourke’s Next Performance? Wrestlemania 25!

Mickey Rourke, while doing red carpet interviews at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last night, revealed that not only has he been in talks with World Wrestling Entertainment and Vince McMahon, but that he has accepted to attend Wrestlemania 25 on April 5th.

Here’s the clip straight from YouTube:

The man calls out Chris Jericho! Â  Is there anything cooler? Â  As a die hard wrestling fan (yes, I know it’s fake! Â  Back off!), I think this is awesome news, and I can’t wait to hear what WWE has in store for Rourke and Jericho in the storylines.

Much Anticipated Trailer for ‘Killshot’

From Academy Award nominated director John Madden (“Shakespeare in Love”) comes Hossein Amini’s wry adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s best-selling crime novel. The beautiful Carmen Colson (Diane Lane) and her husband Wayne (Thomas Jane) become entangled in a scam with a bumbling, small time con artist (Joseph Gordon Levitt) and his over-the-hill hitman partner the Blackbird (Mickey Rourke). Ultimately, it all comes down to one wife, one husband, two killers… and one lethal killshot. ‘Killshot’ is scheduled to open this Friday, January 23rd. Its rated ‘R’ for violence, language and brief nudity.

While this movie‘s been sitting around since 2006, I say, strike while the iron’s hot – give Mickey Rourke as much face time as possible… with the announcement of the Oscar nominations this Thursday morning, his huge comeback is thrilling Hollywood stuff.  Rourke’s stellar performance as Randy ‘The Ram’ Robinson in ‘The Wrestler’ is the very best of the year.  I love the idea of him  in ‘Iron  Man 2’ as Whiplash.  On a side note, here’s a great interview between Mickey Rourke and Christopher Walken from Interview Magazine.

Emily Blunt to be Black Widow in ‘Iron Man 2’?

Variety is reporting that Emily Blunt is the front runner to play Black Widow in ‘Iron Man 2’. This comes hot off the heels of last week’s news that Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell had joined the cast as two key villains.

Black Widow is a Soviet super spy who wields state-of-the-art weaponry. ‘Iron Man 2’ begins production this Spring for a release in Summer 2010.

What do you think? Is Blunt a good choice for Black Widow? Is ‘Iron Man 2’ getting a little villain-heavy? Â  What other Iron Man villains could make appearances in the future? Didn’t you think Terence Howard was gonna tackle Don Cheadle backstage at the Golden Globes? Let us know by commenting below!

Rourke and Rockwell in ‘Iron Man 2’ … Holy Sh**!

OK, wait a minute. Seriously? I wanna call “rumor foul” here, but then again… it’s being reported by both Hollywood Reporter and Variety. I think I may be dreaming!

Apparently, both Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) and Sam Rockwell (Choke) are in talks to play villains in perhaps the biggest, most-anticipated sequel since ‘The Dark Knight’. That would be ‘Iron Man 2’ in case you’ve been MIA for the last two years or so. As it stands, the word on the street is that Sam Rockwell is in talks to play Justin Hammer, a multi-billionaire industrialist and arch-rival businessman of Tony Stark.

That’s all great and exciting stuff, but we all know what the big news here is… Mickey Rourke! Just the fact that he’s being considered is awesome, ad that he’s a potential villain is even better. However, there’s a problem. While both major sites are confirming the casting rumor, they differ on which role he may play.

Variety is stating that Rourke is being considered for Crimson Dynamo, the Russian counter-part to Iron Man. He’s a muscle-bound, tattooed Russian sporting a similar nuclear-powered mega-suit. On the other hand, Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Rourke may play Whiplash, who also happens to be a muscle-bound Russian thug who wields deadly hi-tech weaponized coils. Chances are, Variety is on the right path as Crimson Dynamo has more backstory and Whiplash has a relatively limited presence.

So fellow movie geeks and comic book geeks alike… what say you? Which “rumor” holds more credence? Which character would you rather Rourke portray? Here’s a rhetorical question: should Rourke be cast in ‘Iron Man2’? What are your opinions about Sam Rockwell being cast? Let us know what you think by leaving comments to this post.

Mickey Rourke is One of ‘The Expendables’

Mickey Rourke is getting parts left and right now, and I couldn’t be happier. Â  The star, and future Oscar nominee, of ‘The Wrestler’ has signed on for a part in Sylvester Stallone’s ‘The Expendables’. Â  Rourke will be playing the go-to guy when it comes to weapons and equipment for the group of mercenaries led by Stallone.

Also in the mix are Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, and Dolph Lundgren. Â  Forest Whitaker and Ben Kingsley are in negotiations to co-star.

‘The Expendables’ begins shooting in March in Brazil.

What do you think? Â  Is this becoming the most kick-ass film of 2009? Â  Are there any more mega-men who might join the cast? Â  Will Lundgren, at some point, utter the phrase “I must break you”? Â  Let us know by commenting below!

Never too late to hype ‘The Wrestler’

The Honest Performance And A Lens…

Director Darren Aronofsky has given us ‘The Wrestler,’ which many critics believe to be a shoe in at this year’s Oscars ceremony, specifically for the Best Actor category.

“I went to see ‘Angel Heart and it was the first film I ever – when the credits rolled I sat there and waited with the lights on ‘til the lights came back down and the film started again,† recalls Aronofsky. “He’s such a unique talent, there’s no one like him, you know? And all that amour, and then you look into those eyes and he’s just burning up.†
