Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) gets a call from Gideon Gordon Graves (Jason Schwartzman) in this YAHOO! Movies first look clip from Edgar Wright’s SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. Synopsis:

Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for totally average garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams…literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him. Genre-smashing filmmaker Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) tells the amazing story of one romantic slacker’s quest to power up with love in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It’s getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart’s ass–and now is back in town–to the teenage distraction he’s trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn’t been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor.

As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues’ gallery from her past–from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsomely identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.

Universal Pictures’ SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD hits theaters on August 13, 2010.

THE THING Prequel has a date!

Universal Pictures will unleash THE THING on April 29, 2011.  The reboot/prequel based on John Carpenter’s classic will star Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD”) and Joel Edgerton (“ANIMAL KINGDOM”). Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Dennis Storhøi. The action takes place in a remote Antarctica outpost, an alien spaceship is discovered far beneath the ice. When a group of ambitious scientists decide to thaw out one of the creatures inside, they’re in for the terrifying fight of their lives.

Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.

First Cast Members Confirmed for THE THING

A month or so ago (not entirely sure, because we didn’t run a story on it), a character list was released for the new sequel/prequel/remake of THE THING.  One of the main reasons I, personally, didn’t scope it out was that I heard it revealed some pretty deep spoilers on the project.  Now, according to Heat Vision Blog, some casting has been done on those characters.

They are reporting Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton have signed on as Ph.D. candidate and a blue collar helicopter pilot, respectively, who are thrust into terror when the Norwegian expedition team they are with in the Antarctic uncovers a UFO buried in the ice.

Blue collar helicopter pilot?  Really?  They couldn’t come up with anything besides that?  Again?

As indicated in the report, the film is tentatively titled THE THING, so the questions on how this is connected to John Carpenter’s 1982 version remain.  Shooting is set to begin on March 15th in Toronto.   Matthijs Van Heijningen is taking on directing duties.

‘Scott Pilgrim’ Characters Revealed… Sort Of

scott-pilgrim

A couple of weeks back, we brought you the first images of Ramona Flowers played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the graphic novel ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World’.

Today, we bring you a whole bunch more pics.   We’re still not sure if this is going to be live action, animated, or somewhere in between, but this is a pretty interesting way to reveal actors/characters from your film.

First Image of Ramona Flowers from ‘Scott Pilgrim’

marybw_scottpilgrim

Here’s the first image of Ramona Flowers from Edgar Wright’s new film ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’, which is based on the popular graphic novel from Oni Press. Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays Ramona Flowers, an American delivery girl who is the subject of a Canadian slacker’s crush, played by Michael Cera. I’m really looking forward to this movie, even if Cera is starting to lose my interest, but the story is just so much fun.
