Exciting new for fans of vintage crime films! LADY SCARFACE (1941) is now Available on DVD From Warner Archives

Stage titaness Dame Judith Anderson played the title role in this zippy thriller between twin Broadway triumphs as two of drama’s most illustrious villainesses, Lady MacBeth and Medea. The hunt is on for Chicago criminal mastermind Slade (Anderson), the sinister genius behind a series of daring and deadly robberies. Doggedly pursued by police lieutenant Bill Mason (Dennis O’Keefe), Slade continues to evade Mason because he assumes that Slade is a man. Luckily for the lieutenant, he has reporter Ann Rogers (Frances Neal) by his side, and she obtains a quest-changing clue for Mason – an envelope stuffed with Slade’s stolen loot and addressed to “Mary Jordan c/o the Leonard Sheldon Hotel.” Mason and Rogers head for New York to set a trap for Slade, only to find an unexpected Mary Jordan claiming the envelope. And this Mary, a newlywed, may be an innocent or just another feint by the evil Slade.

Marc Lawrence’s Untitled Romantic Comedy Begins Photography – Hugh Grant, Marisa Tomei Star

Producer Martin Shafer announced today that principal photography has begun on Marc Lawrence’s untitled romantic comedy in New York.  The film shooting in and around New York City as well as Binghamton, New York, stars Hugh Grant, Marisa Tomei, Bella Heathcote, Chris Elliott, J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney. Shafer is producing with Liz Glotzer for Castle Rock Entertainment. FilmNation Entertainment is handling international sales for all territories outside the U.S.

Producer Martin Shafer commented on working in New York, “New York is a favorite location of ours to shoot. It has a combination of great crews, a wide variety of beautiful and interesting locations, and a very helpful State Film office, but ultimately it is the State’s film incentive program that tips the scale and allows us to return to this great location.”

In 1998, Keith Michaels (Grant) was on top of the world — a witty, sexy, Englishman in Hollywood who had just won a major screenwriter’s award.  Fifteen years later, he’s creatively washed up, divorced, and broke. With no other options, he takes a job teaching screenwriting at a small college in Binghamton, New York. Although the idea of teaching is less than thrilling, he hopes to make some easy money and enjoy the favors of impressionable young co-eds. What he doesn’t expect to find is romance with a single mom (Tomei) who’s gone back to school.

Shafer, Glotzer and Castle Rock Entertainment recently produced Richard Linklater’s “Bernie,” released by Millennium Entertainment, “Friends with Benefits” released by Screen Gems, and Whit Stillman’s “Damsels in Distress,” released by Sony Pictures Classics.  They executive produced the upcoming Richard Linklater film “Before Midnight” which reunites Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy in the third installment of the series that began with “Before Sunrise.”
