Tom Cruise Dawns Alter Ego in Greenlit Les Grossman Film!

As Hollywood Studio Executive Les Grossman says, “Ask… and you shall receive!” So we have.

From Deadline Hollywood’s Nikki Finke comes the official announcement:

HOLLYWOOD, CA (June 9, 2010) – Paramount Pictures and MTV Films announced today that they are set to develop a movie around mega-producer Les Grossman. The announcement comes on the heels of Grossman’s groundbreaking and visionary production of the soon-to-be Emmy award-winning 2010 MTV Movie Awards Sunday night.

Tom Cruise, along with Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld of Red Hour Films will produce and have secured the life rights to Grossman. Grossman, best known as a mega producer, has most recently mentored talents such as Rob Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. In 2008, Grossman was introduced to the masses by Stiller in the comedy TROPIC THUNDER where the famed producer had a cameo playing himself.

Said Ben Stiller: “Les Grossman’s life story is an inspiring tale of the classic human struggle to achieve greatness against all odds. He has assured me he plans to quote, ‘F**king kill the sh*t out of this movie and make Citizen f**king Kane look like a piece of crap home movie by the time we are done.’ I am honored to be working with him.” When asked what the screenplay was about Grossman responded: “To quote my great friend Kirk Lazarus, ‘I don’t read the script, the script reads me.’”Adam Goodman, Paramount Film Group President said, “Everything I learned in this business, I’ve learned from Les. I started out as his assistant, and from the first day he threw his desk at me when I got his lunch order wrong, I have loved him like a father. I am forever grateful to Ben and Stuart Cornfeld and their ability to secure his highly-coveted life rights,”Tom Cruise is said to be in talks to portray Grossman in the film. Michael Bacall (“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”) will write the script.

So what do you think readers? Is a Les Grossman movie warranted? If anything, it’ll certainly help re-ignite Cruise’s dying career. I’m all for it!

Is a Les Grossman Movie on the Way?

It’s not surprise to anyone who saw ‘Tropic Thunder’ that the biggest surprise of the film was Tom Cruise’s turn as megalomaniacal film producer, Les Grossman. Â  Robert Downey, Jr’s performance was great, as it was expected to be, but Cruise’s foul-mouthed performance as Grossman was a huge surprise.

Eonline caught up with Cruise about his Golden Globe nomination for ‘Tropic Thunder’. Â  They didn’t care what the star thought about it. Â  They wanted to know what Grossman would think about it.

“Les would probably say something unprintable,” Cruise told me today in an exclusive interview. “First thing when you hear about that character is, just what would that guy say? It would have to be something unprintable.”

Cruise went on to talk about the potentiality of a Les Grossman film.

“I’ve talked about doing different videos with the character,” Cruise said. “I’ve started working with Ben [Stiller] on it, and we’ve kind of talked about different things to do. We were gonna do some in our free time, but we haven’t found the free time†¦yet.”

He doesn’t rule out a full-length feature film centered on Grossman: “He’s a fun character,” said Cruise, who will next be seen in the real-life WWII thriller ‘Valkyrie’. “I gotta talk to Ben, but there could be more to do with that guy.”

What do you think? Â  Would a Les Grossman movie be too much? Â  Would you rather see a straight sequel to ‘Tropic Thunder’ that brought back all the (surviving) characters? Â  Let us know by commenting below!
