Zack Snyder’s SUCKER PUNCH Trailer Is Here!

As was seen at Comic Con, here’s the first trailer for Zack Snyder‘s SUCKER PUNCH, now up at Apple Trailers. Hold onto your butts.

I like how the dragon is laying waste to everything – good times! My goodness there’s alot going on in this CGI filled trailer.

Synopsis:

SUCKER PUNCH is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, but her incredible adventures blur the lines between what’s real and what is imaginary…with potentially tragic consequences.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and Zack Snyder (300 and WATCHMEN), SUCKER PUNCH stars Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Oscar Isaac, and Scott Glenn. The film will be in theaters next year on March 25, 2011.

Synopsis:

Set in the 1950s, the story follows Babydoll (Emily Browning) who is confined to a mental institution by her stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out before she is deflowered by a vile man.

SUCKER PUNCH stars Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, Oscar Isaac, and Scott Glenn. The film will be in theaters next year on March 25, 2011.

GODZILLA Roaring Back to the Screen

It’s been 12 long years since Matthew Broderick GODZILLA nearly destroyed New York City.  Believe it or not, since then, there have been six GODZILLA movies released in Japan, and Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures figure it’s time for another US reboot.  The announcement came today that the iconic, massive lizard with a penchant for subway cars and who can blow flames from his mouth will be coming back to American theaters.  The new film is set for a 2012 release.

Legendary Pictures announced Monday they had acquired rights to the film from Toho Co. but that the Japanese-based film studio would still release the film in Japan.

Says Thomas Tull, Chairman and CEO of Legendary Pictures:

GODZILLA is one of the world’s most powerful pop culture icons, and we at Legendary are thrilled to be able to create a modern epic based on this long-loved Toho franchise. Our plans are to produce the GODZILLA that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop-culturally relevant for as long as it has.

I think, if you read between the lines, this means there won’t be any baby GODZILLA’s to cash in on the JURASSIC PARK craze and I have a feeling a home pregnancy test won’t come into play this time around.  Jean Reno, though?  Always welcome.

CLASH OF THE TITANS Releases a Second Trailer

“Release the Kraken!!” I love that line from the original 1981 fantasy film. Sounds even better bellowing from Liam Neeson’s Zeus    Along with the “money shot” of The Kraken, here’s the second, leaked trailer, ala our friend Alex Billington, over at FirstShowing.net.  and it looks magnificent!

I’m diggin’ the  casting of Sam Worthington (TERMINATOR: SALVATION, AVATAR) in the role of Perseus too.  From Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, look for  Louis Leterrier’s CLASH OF THE TITANS  remake on March 26, 2010.

Carla Gugino joins cast of ‘Sucker Punch’

Zack Snyder’s next film will likely be several rungs down the ladder of special effects amazement, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to suck. Snyder has written and will be directing SUCKER PUNCH for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.

SUCKER PUNCH will be set in the 1950’s and tells the story of a young woman whose stepfather commits into a mental institution and plans to have her lobotomized within five days. The young woman and fellow inmates who she befriends begin planning their escape after entering an alternate reality.

Casting is well under way and Carla Gugino (Sin City, Watchmen) has just signed on to play Mrs. Schultz, an adult character within the institution. Gugino joins the cast members already in place including the star Emily Browning (who plays the young woman), Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie chung, Jena Malone and Abbie Cornish.

The cast is currently undergoing fight training in preparation for shooting to being this fall in Vancouver. While somewhat overshadowed by it’s director’s previous outing, SUCKER PUNCH sounds like a lot of fun, touching back on some of the earlier exploitation films of by-gone eras. Who doesn’t enjoy watching women kick-ass?

‘Superman’ to Be ‘Unleashed’?

Okay, so yesterday we brought you news that a rumor of an upcoming ‘Superman’ flick had been shot down.   Today, we bring you yet another bit of information about the next film in the series.

Over at SlashFilm, they got themselves into a password-protected Company website for Legendary Pictures.   This site lists titles of upcoming films, and here is something they found out there:

There you have it.   Take this for what it’s worth.   Just because they have a title doesn’t mean there is anything set in stone as far as pre-production goes.   However, with this information out there now, it may not be too long before we get some kind of official announcement.   Of course, we’ll keep you up to date on everything we hear.
