Disney+ announced its highly anticipated animated series “Monsters at Work” will now begin streaming July 7, with new episodes dropping every Wednesday.

“”Monsters at Work” takes place the day after the Monsters, Incorporated power plant started harvesting the laughter of children to fuel the city of Monstropolis, thanks to Mike and Sulley’s discovery that laughter generates ten times more energy than screams. It follows the story of Tylor Tuskmon, an eager young monster who graduated top of his class at Monsters University and always dreamed of becoming a Scarer until he lands a job at Monsters, Incorporated, and discovers that scaring is out and laughter is in. After Tylor is temporarily reassigned to the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (MIFT), he must work alongside a misfit bunch of mechanics while setting his sights on becoming a Jokester.

Produced by Disney Television Animation and inspired by the world of Disney and Pixar’s Academy Award-winning “Monsters, Inc.,” the series introduces new monster characters alongside returning favorites. Ben Feldman stars as the voice of Tylor Tuskmon, alongside other new cast members including Mindy Kaling as Val Little, Henry Winkler as Fritz, Lucas Neff as Duncan and Alanna Ubach as Cutter. Billy Crystal and John Goodman reprise their beloved roles as Mike Wazowski and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan.

“Monsters at Work” was developed and is executive produced by Disney animation veteran Bobs Gannaway (“Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “Planes: Fire & Rescue”). Sean Lurie (“Inner Workings”) is producer, and Kat Good (“Big Hero 6 The Series”) and Steve Anderson (“Meet the Robinsons”) serve as supervising directors. The late Rob Gibbs (“Monsters, Inc.”) also served as director on some of the earlier episodes.

THE BIG LEBOWSKI at Urban Chestnut October 3rd – ‘Strange Brew’

“That rug really tied the room together!”

Webster University’s Award-Winning Strange Brew Film Series has moved! The new location is Urban Chestnut in the Grove (4465 Manchester Avenue, St. Louis 63110). This month’s film is THE BIG LEBOWSKI. It’s this Wednesday, October 3rd. The movie starts at 8pm and admission is $5.

bigl3
Sometimes it’s easy to forget that THE BIG LEBOWSKI is a mystery, like the Coen brothers’ previous film, FARGO. Where Fargo is a thriller, THE BIG LEBOWSKI is a parody. Hidden in the jokes, satire, idiosyncratic characters, and musical numbers, the story is about a hippie “bum,” brilliantly portrayed by Jeff Bridges, who is unwittingly sucked into becoming a pawn in kidnapping and embezzling scams. As the narrator aka ‘The Stranger’ (Sam Eliot) succinctly puts it, “Sometimes there’s a man–I won’t say a hee-ro, ’cause what’s a hee-ro?–but sometimes there’s a man. And I’m talking’ about the Dude here–sometimes there’s a man who, well, he’s the man for his time’n place, he fits right in there–and that’s the Dude” The Dude takes us on an anti-hero’s journey. The Dude’s legal name happens to be the same as a bigwig whose trophy bride and former porn star, Bunny (Tara Reed), owes money to a porn producer whose goons confuse the two Lebowskis and whiz on the Dude’s room-tying-together rug. This sets off a chain of events that have entertained audiences now for 17 years.

bigl2

THE BIG LEBOWSKI was not a hit theatrically but it’s developed a cult reputation over the years and is now considered a beloved masterpiece with Bridge’s ‘The Dude’ being one of cinema’s all-time great eccentrics. But the entire cast: John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore and, most hilariously John Turturro in a cameo as Jesus, the uptight, pedophilic rival who represents everything The Dude dismisses, are at the top of their game. Don’t miss THE BIG LEBOWSKI when it screens October 3rd at Urban Chestnut in the Grove (4465 Manchester Avenue, St. Louis 63110)

A Facebook invite for this event can be found HERE

The movie starts at 8pm and admission is $5. There will be food to order and plenty of pints of Urban Chestnut’s famous home-brewed beer.

John Goodman to Receive The Lifetime Achievement Award at This Year’s St. Louis International Film Festival

The 27th Annual Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival (SLIFF) — held Nov. 1-11 —  will honor native St. Louisan John Goodman with a Lifetime Achievement Award at a tribute program that will include a clip reel of the actor’s career highlights, a conversation betwen Goodman and John Carney of KTRS (550 AM), and a screening of “The Big Lebowski” on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. The program will take place at 7:30 pm Friday, Nov. 2, at the Tivoli Theatre, 6350 Delmar Blvd. Tickets for the event are $25 and go on sale through the Tivoli website on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Goodman grew up in Affton and graduated in 1975 from Missouri State University (then Southwest Missouri State) in Springfield, Mo. He soon moved to New York City to begin his acting career. On Broadway, from 1985-87, Goodman starred as Pap Finn in Roger Miller’s musical take on Mark Twain, winning a Drama Desk nomination. In recent years, he’s returned to the stage with “American Buffalo” in London and “The Front Page” on Broadway.

Goodman began earning film roles in the 1980s, debuting in “Eddie Macon’s Run” (1983) and receiving increasingly prominent roles in such films as “Sweet Dreams” (1985), “True Stories” (1986), and “The Big Easy” (1986). He began a long collaboration with Joel and Ethan Coen with “Raising Arizon” in 1987, and he’s since appeared in the Coens’ “Barton Fink” (1991), “The Big Lebowski” (1998), “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” (2000), and “Inside Llewyn Davis” (2013). Goodman’s filmography is extensive, but other highlights of his career include “Sea of Love” (1989), Steven Spielberg’s “Always” (1989), “King Ralph” (1991), “The Babe” (1992), “Matinee” (1993), “Fallen” (1998), Martin Scorsese’s “Bringing Out the Dead” (1999), “The Artist” (2011), “Argo” (2012), “Flight” (2012), and “10 Cloverfield Lane” (2016).

Goodman has been just as active in TV, where he is best known for his long-running role as Dan Conner in “Roseanne” (1988-97 and 2018) and now “The Conners.” He also had regular roles on Amazon’s “Alpha House” (2013-14) and HBO’s “Treme” (2010-11), and played memorable recurring characters on such shows “West Wing,” “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” “Damages,” and “Community.” Goodman also does frequent voice-over work in animation, including Pixar’s “Monsters Inc.” and “Cars.”

The SLIFF schedule, ticket and venue information, and a complete list of films (with descriptions) will be available at the Cinema St. Louis website (cinemastlouis.org) the first week of October.

For more information, the public should visit cinemastlouis.org or call 314-289-4150.
