Here’s the first trailer for the new animated movie ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’ based on the children’s book written by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett. The movie is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller for Sony Picture Animation and stars the voice talent of Anna Faris, Bill Hader, Bruce Campbell, Andy Samberg, James Caan, Tracy Morgan and, yes… Mr. T!

The trailer looks like fun, but I’m not familiar with the book and I’m not sure whether this is one that will hold the attention of viewers older than, say… 6 years of age. The animation looks alright, but not as good as is possible. It strikes me as an attempt to give CGI a claymation look. Then again, it may be playing off the style of illustration in the book. Either way, the movie opens in theaters on September 18, 2009.

Dream Cast for animated ‘Meatballs’ movie…

‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’ will become a 3-D animated comedy due out in theaters  on January 15,  2010. The film will be directed by Chris Miller (Shrek 3)  and will be based on the best-selling children’s book of the same name, written by Judi Barrett.

This movie, as gloriously strange as it sounds, is set to star one heck of a cast. Bill Hader is set to star as the lead character, with a supporting cast that will include Anna Faris, James Caan and yes… friggin’ Bruce Campbell will lend his voice in the same movie as friggin’ Mr. T!!! Sweet!

[Hader, the talented SNL star whose movie career has so far consisted of a series of pinch-hitting cameos in the likes of ‘Hot Rod’ and ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’, will take lead duty as Flint Lockwood, a young and idealistic inventor. Faris will play Sam Sparks, a perky weathergirl who deliberately obscures her intelligence.] — EmpireOnline.com
