Your Weekly Source for the Newest Releases to Blu-Ray

Not a huge week for new Blu-Ray releases, but there are certainly a few of significant noteworthiness… and, Triple H is not one of them. Sorry, to all the wrestling fans out there. Resurrected from the 80’s are the slasher flick THE DORM THAT DRIPPED BLOOD and John Boorman’s EXCALIBUR, an under-appreciated telling of the times of Kign Arthur.

*Perhaps the best documentary of 2010, EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP is an intriguing film about art and artist, and the personality in between, but it’s also an adventure into a world with which few of us have any experience. Charles Ferguson’s INSIDE JOB is a documentary about the recent financial meltdown.

*Indicated that I actually feel it IS the best, but am attempting to be impartial.

Writer/director Jeong-beom Lee’s THE MAN FROM NOWHERE is yet another fine example of the quality filmmaking emerging from South Korea. FOUR LIONS is a dramedy about a man who forms a small terrorist cell, a film Time Magazine has placed on it’s Top Ten Films of 2010 list. Finally, and I know it’s not a “movie” but, AMC’s television series THE WALKING DEAD (based on the graphic novels) is so good, it’s worth mentioning. Plus, the first season was directed by Frank Darabont (SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, THE MIST) so, that counts… right?

Review: JACKASS 3D

I am going to start out by saying that I almost threw up twice watching this. IT WAS AWESOME!

The Jackass crew is back in their third movie… and this time, all of their vulgarity is captured in 3D. Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O, Wee Man, Ryan Dunn, Chris Pontius, Preston Lacy, Dave England, and Ehren McGheyhey are all ready to rock… along with guest appearances from Spike Jones, Matt Hoffman, and Seann William Scott ( Who looks terrible, btw. )

The 3D in this film is FANTASTIC. Some scenes look like they were simply converted into 3D, so they aren’t that great, while others are INSANE! Special cameras were made for their stunts that capture their super fast hits in a high definition. This way, when they slow them down you can see everything! You can see the skin ripple with every hit, and some things that just shouldn’t be seen in 3D, such as feces, vomit, and both Chris Pontius’s and Bam Margera’s special members.

I think that they went the farthest stunt-wise in the second film, but they certainly went for a gross factor in this one. The audience, including myself, couldn’t help but react out loud at all the ridiculous stunts. One of the stunts that I could hardly watch was “Lamborghini Tooth Pull”. It’s pretty self explanatory.

WARNING: SPOILERS:

I was amped up from the beginning of this film. They start out with the old MTV moon man logo from my childhood, and then, non-other than Beavis and Butthead open the movie. The whole audience was PUMPED! The film itself left people crying from laughter, and bursting out the laughs. The crowd was even applauding at stunts. It was really cool. I still have never witnessed a crowd laugh as hard in a theater as they have for the Jackass films. This includes myself. I do not remember another film that has made me laugh this hard in a theater. My face hurt at parts.

By far, the best 3d had to do with a certain “object” being shot toward the audience. It honestly was the most impressive 3D to come at the crowd (no pun intended) that I have ever seen. I have seen a lot of 3D… and it even freaked me out with how close it got!

They took a different twist at the end of the film, where they showed clips of everyone when they first started making Jackass. They went for a nostalgic effect, showing childhood pictures of the guys and including the new Weezer song, “Memories”. They actually sing on the track, which adds to the memorable moments. It was actually nice to see.

Some people are arguing that the boys are too old for this. I say no way! They are still 10 times braver than I could ever be! I highly recommend this film. I just wouldn’t eat a full meal first!

Overall rating: 4.75 out of 5 stars for entertainment

JACKASS 3 might be in 3D

jackass

Yes, I know…JACKASS is a reflection of the youth as of late and their destructive nature.   However, as a 28 year old man..I still laugh at it.   I remember the first JACKASS movie and boy was that a laugh riot!   I hadn’t laughed so hard in a movie theater in a long time.

Think about all the JACKASS antics in 3D though.   Sure, there will probably be nuts coming at our faces, but just imagine the reaction.   I hope it goes through.   Dickhouse Productions still hasn’t confirmed the 3D, but according to the Variety article published Monday, Jeff Tremaine is conducting camera tests this week.

What is also really funny is the last paragraph of the article, and I’m not sure that anyone picked up on it. I  will quote it below, but see if you can spot the hilarity on your own.

Though Par confirmed the new JACKASS will be shot in 3D, Dickhouse Prods. declined comment about the technology the film will employ. Insiders say Dickhouse’s Jeff Tremaine, who will direct JACKASS 3, is conducting camera tests this week to ensure that the footage will look good.

Dickhouse’s Knoxville, Tremaine and Spike Jonze are producing the film, which will lense in Knob Lick, Kentucky, Mianus, Connecticut, Fukang, China, Buttzville, New Jersey and Gayville, South Dakota.

I still can’t believe it hasn’t been corrected.
