Press release:

“ICE AGE” HEADLINER SCRAT GETS HIS OWN SHORT FILM

SEE SCRAT’S CONTINENTAL CRACK-UP, IN 3D, ONLY AT SHOWINGS OF GULLIVER’S TRAVELS, BEGINNING DECEMBER 25

LOS ANGELES (Tuesday, December 21st, 2010) – It’s a world-shaking event: Scrat, the prehistoric squirrel/rat – and breakout star of the blockbuster Ice Age movie franchise — headlines his own short film, SCRAT’S CONTINENTAL CRACK-UP, in 3D. The short can be seen only at showings of the 20th Century Fox comedy GULLIVER’S TRAVELS, which arrives in theaters everywhere December 25.

The special holiday treat sees Scrat still scrambling after the cursed acorn he’s been craving since the first Ice Age film. Only this time, the chase has world-changing consequences. Forget what you’ve learned in geology about the continents forming as a result of massive tectonic shifts and volcanic eruptions tearing land masses apart. SCRAT’S CONTINENTAL CRACK-UP reveals that these seismic…crack-ups…came about from Scrat’s nutty misadventures.

ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT, the fourth film in the franchise, is set for release in 3D on July 13th, 2012. The story picks up after Scrat’s continental cataclysm, which has triggers the greatest adventure of all for “Ice Age’s” intrepid trio — Manny, Diego, and Sid. The film will feature the voices of Ray Romano as Manny, Queen Latifah as Ellie, John Leguizamo as Sid, Denis Leary as Diego, Sean William Scott as Crash, and Chris Wedge as Scrat.

Synopsis:

In a modern, 3D family comedy take on the classic tale, Jack Black (star of “Kung Fu Panda” and “School of Rock”) is Lemuel Gulliver, a lowly mailroom clerk at a New York newspaper. After Gulliver bluffs his way into an assignment writing about the Bermuda Triangle, he goes there only to be transported to an undiscovered land, Lilliput. In this fantastical new world, Gulliver is, at last, a bigger-than-life figure — in size and ego – especially after he starts telling tall tales, taking credit for his world’s greatest inventions, and placing himself at the center of its most historic events. Gulliver’s position is enhanced even further when he leads his new friends in a daring battle against their longtime enemies. But when Gulliver loses it all and puts the Lilliputians in peril, he must find a way to undo the damage. Ultimately, Gulliver becomes a true giant among men only when he learns that it’s how big you are on the inside that counts..

From director Rob Letterman (SHARK TALE, MONSTERS VS. ALIENS) and starring Jack Black, Emily Blunt, Amanda Peet, Jason Segel and Billy Connolly, the film will be in theaters in 3D on December 22, 2010. Visit the film’s official site here and on Facebook here.

In a contemporary re–imagining of the classic tale, Jack Black stars as Gulliver, a big–talking mailroom clerk who, after he’s mistakenly assigned a travel piece on the Bermuda Triangle, suddenly finds himself a giant among men when he washes ashore on the hidden island of Lilliput, home to a population of very tiny people. At first enslaved by the diminutive and industrious Liliputians, and later declared their hero, Gulliver comes to learn that it’s how big you are on the inside that counts.

From director Rob Letterman (SHARK TALE, MONSTERS VS. ALIENS) and starring Jack Black, Emily Blunt, Amanda Peet, Jason Segel and Billy Connolly, the film will be in theaters in 3D on December 22, 2010.

Emily Blunt Officially Out of ‘Iron Man 2’

emily_bluntblack-widow

The news that Emily Blunt would not be starring in ‘Iron Man 2’ as Black Widow has been in the pipeline for quite a while now.   There has even been news about her replacement.

Well, I guess the official word had not come down until now, as Jon Favreau, the director, told The Playlist that 20th Century Fox had exercised their option on Blunt to star in ‘Gulliver’s Travels’, and she is officially out of ‘Iron Man 2’.

Favreau said he is disappointed but did not give any news as to who might be replacing her.   I guess we’ll have to sit back and wait for any news on Johansson stepping into the role.

As for Mickey Rourke, Favreau only said that he wasn’t officially cast but that he is a fan.   Whatever that means.

‘Iron Man 2’ is slated for May 7th, 2010.

Segal and Blunt consider ‘Gullivers Travels’

Fox is developing a “new” take on Jonathan Swift’s classic “Gullivers Travels” that will star Jack Black. Nicholas Stoller and Joe Stillman wrote the screenplay. News got out today that Jason Segal (in negotiations) and Emily Blunt have been offered roles in the film. If the deals go through, Blunt would play the island princess and Segal would play the Lilliputian named Horatio.

Jack Black Chosen For ‘Gullivers Travels’

Fox Searchlight Pictures has picked up Jack Black to play the title character in their big screen adaptation of ‘Gulliver’s Travels’.

From the contemporary writer Jonathan Swift, Gulliver’s Travels  centers on Lemuel Gulliver, a free-spirited travel writer who, on an assignment to the Bermuda Triangle, suddenly finds himself a giant among men when he washes ashore on the hidden island of Lilliput, home to a population of industrious, yet tiny, people.

It has been set that Rob Letterman will direct off a script by Nicholas Stoller and Joe Stillman. No word yet on  the release date or when production begins, but I am sure more information will be surfacing in no time.   I mean it is a Jack Black movie.
