Yes, even more (bad) ‘Dragonball’ pictures…

I can’t help myself. Every time I see new pictures from or news about the upcoming ‘Dragonball’ movie I just have to share. Call it my evil, cynical side… I just can’t see how this movie is going to be any good, except for a hardy laugh! Here’s a new image of Piccolo, who apparently IS going to be green?

[Psst… if you look really close, you’ll see that apparently only Piccolo’s head is green.]

‘Dragonball’ “Goodies”… (if you’re into that?)

First off, we have an “alleged” on-set photo of Goku in his “super saiyan” form from the new live-action version being made. I’m not a big fan of the show and never made an effort to keep up with the story, but I’ve seen enough episodes to know this is a terrible “interpretation” of Goku as a super saiyan. Above is an “unofficial” french (?)Â  trailer spot that offers a lo-res glimpse into the movie. From what little we get to see, it doesn’t necessarily look “disastrous” (yet) but it certainly doesn’t look groundbreaking. And finally, another screenshot of Picolo from the “new” movie version…

“Unofficial” Sneak Peek at ‘Dragonball’ Teaser…

Here’s an early “unofficial” sneak peek at the upcoming new live-action feature adaptation of the anime series called ‘Dragonball’… I’m sure many have eagerly awaited this, some of us out of pure morbid curiosity, but the wait is (somewhat) over. Personally, this teaser is only confirming, thus far, what I believed to be the case from day one when this project was announced… this ‘Dragonball’ movie looks lame and uncool. Nothing really makes me think “hey, I gotta go see this!” I wonder if the Dragonball fans out there feel they’re going to get their money’s worth, or do they feel they’re going to get ripped off…

‘Dragonball’ movie simply not doing it for me …

Found this “new” photo of Justin Chatwin as Goku, courtesy of TheMovieBlog.com, and honestly… I am really not finding any reason that this movie will be any good. Short of some cool fight scenes (IF they end up being cool), the ‘Dragonball’ live-action movie feels like a deja vu trip back to the first ‘Street Fighters’ live-action movie that flopped hard-core, in my opinion. Actually, it was sort of enjoyable on a b-movie level. But, ‘Dragonball’ never struck me as something should even be made into live-action. I’m not a fan, but I have seen several episodes and it just works best as an anime. Anyone out there looking forward to this? Anyone other than ‘Dragonball’ fanboys?

‘Dragonball’ … Goku pic and Teaser Poster

.

Yes … the rumors are true. They ARE making a live-action movie of Dragonball, which was shot in Mexico and is currently in post-production. The movie has a tentative release date of April 8, 2009. I’ve seen several episodes of the long-running, insanely popular Dragonball anime series, but was never a big fan. I saw the series as a cool Saturday-morning cartoon sort of experience, but prefer the more serious anime options available. James Chatwin (The Chumscrubber, The Invisible) plays the role of Goku, the young fighter who seeks out the great Master Roshi, played by Chow Yun-Fat (Hard Boiled, Bulletproof Monk). He is tasked with finding and gathering all seven of the mystical dragonballs, before the evil Lord Piccolo, played by James Marsters (Winding Roads, P.S. I Love You), can find them and use them to take over the world. What are the chances of this film being successful, outside of pre-teen Yu-Gi-Oh playing boys?
