LET THE BULLETS FLY – In Theaters March 2

IN THEATERS MARCH 2, 2012

A FILM BY JIANG WEN

STARRING CHOW YUN FAT, JIANG WEN, GE YOU, CARINA LAU

In the lawless land that is rural China in the 1920s, legendary bandit “Pocky” Zhang (Jiang Wen) and his gang stage a train robbery. They are quite unhappy to discover that instead of silver, the only thing left on the train is the con man, Tang (Ge You). Desperate, Tang explains that he’s on his way to Goose Town, where he’s bought himself a governorship. If allowed to live, he will help Zhang assume the governorship in his place… where Zhang can make more money in one month as a corrupt politician than he can in a year’s worth of train robberies. With Tang as his prisoner/counselor, off they go.

But neither realizes that Goose Town is already under the iron rule of the wealthy Master Huang (Chow Yun Fat, The Killer, Hard Boiled), whose charming exterior conceals a ruthless, conniving crime lord. As Zhang begins to see how badly Huang oppresses the citizens of Goose Town, he decides to do something about it, and Huang quickly senses a major threat to his empire.

Thus begins an escalating series of hyper-violent (and hilarious) mind games between the bandit and the crime lord, while the devious Tang tries to play both sides until he can exit the situation…preferably with a profit. The stakes quickly rise to ludicrous proportions in this masterfully vicious, pitch-black action-comedy (China’s highest grossing film of all time), and you’ll be laughing the entire time as double- and triple-crosses, razor-sharp wordplay, and hundreds of thousands of bullets explode across the screen.

First 2 (albeit short) clips from ‘Dragonball: Evolution’

Here are the first two clips released from the new ‘Dragonball: Evolution’ movie. They’re short, but they give you something… even if it’s unwanted. Check out the links below, sorry… I couldn’t find any embeddable clips:

See a hooded Lord Piccolo with a deep ominous voice and God-like powers here.

Sequel to ‘Hard Boiled’ in Development

I’ve always been an advocate for sequel before remake.   If you are going to cash in on the name brand of a successful film, I would much rather see a sequel to that film than a reboot.   And so it goes with John Woo’s 1992 film ‘Hard Boiled’.   Woo’s production company Lion Rock Entertainment is in development on a sequel to the action classic.

The screenplay, being written by Jeremy Passmore (‘Special’) and Andre Fabrizio (the upcoming John Carpenter film ‘The Prince’), will actually be an adaptation of the video game Stranglehold, which served as a sequel to sorts to ‘Hard Boiled’.   Chow Yun-Fat appeared in the game as the same character he portrayed in Woo’s film.   Chances are, with the screenwriters involved, this will be a film geared towards American audiences.

If you haven’t seen ‘Hard Boiled’, or any pre-‘Hard Target’ John Woo films, you are really missing out on some of the absolute best action films ever put to film.

Yeah, I know… what’s the point? Hey, this movie has some merit. It’s almost guaranteed to get a Razzie nomination next year, right? OK, I am going to cease the brutal attacks on the film (at least until after I see it) and just offer up the images. Enjoy… wait, is that possible?

New International ‘Dragonball: Evolution’ Trailer

For all of you Dragonball fans out there, a new international trailer hits the streets and it features a lot of action. However, here’s my take… I found the trailer laughably comical, and I don’t think it was meant to be. It looks as though director James Wong is going for a stylistic cross between Zack Snyder (‘300’, ‘Watchmen’) and the Wachowski Brothers (‘The Matrix’, ‘Speed Racer’). Oh, and a little Michael Bay ‘Transformers’ in there too… did you see it? Chow Yun-Fat is sure to be fun, but Justin Chatwin looks ridiculous. The film has apparently been renamed ‘Dragonball: Evolution’ and is set to hit theatres on April 9, 2009. What do you think… will ‘Dragonball: Evolution’ end up being a Hit, or just Sh**?

‘Dragonball’ … Goku pic and Teaser Poster

.

Yes … the rumors are true. They ARE making a live-action movie of Dragonball, which was shot in Mexico and is currently in post-production. The movie has a tentative release date of April 8, 2009. I’ve seen several episodes of the long-running, insanely popular Dragonball anime series, but was never a big fan. I saw the series as a cool Saturday-morning cartoon sort of experience, but prefer the more serious anime options available. James Chatwin (The Chumscrubber, The Invisible) plays the role of Goku, the young fighter who seeks out the great Master Roshi, played by Chow Yun-Fat (Hard Boiled, Bulletproof Monk). He is tasked with finding and gathering all seven of the mystical dragonballs, before the evil Lord Piccolo, played by James Marsters (Winding Roads, P.S. I Love You), can find them and use them to take over the world. What are the chances of this film being successful, outside of pre-teen Yu-Gi-Oh playing boys?
